I bought a combination mattress 4-5 years ago: 3-3" layers of latex. Cost about $2000. Firm on the bottom, medium in the middle, soft on top, which was the same combination as the sample bed in the store. When trying it out at the store, it seemed comfortable. At home though, it was too hard. So I exchanged the bottom firm for a medium at an additional cost of $200. Even then, I woke up with a stiff back and low back pain. At 200 per exchange, I was maxed out on costs. The only thing that helped was to purchase an egg crate topper. I won't buy another pure latex bed again. I did love that it was non-toxic.
