Everyone I ever came in contact with here was extremely professional and sympathetic to me and my children. I would recommend Dap to anyone who has or who's currently a victim of domestic abuse.

I was referred back in April 25 2018. This place was horrible the living conditions where poor then. The staff Joy didn't like my attitude so she got the staff to continually find wats to have me terminated from the program. But I still made out good today I have a two bedroom apartment that is very nice, I love it. I guess DAP just wasn't for me. I wish all the staff success.

Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County: Empowering Survivors and Preventing Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a pervasive problem that affects millions of people worldwide. It can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status. In the United States alone, an estimated 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, sexual violence or stalking at some point in their lives. Domestic abuse not only causes physical harm but also emotional trauma that can last for years.

The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County (DAP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering survivors of abuse and preventing domestic violence. Founded in 1976 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for services for victims of domestic abuse, DAP has been providing comprehensive support to survivors ever since.

Annually thousands of survivors and their children are supported through the DAP's 24/7 hotline, emergency safe shelter, counseling and legal advocacy services. The organization's mission is to provide safety and support to those affected by domestic abuse while advocating for social change through education and community outreach.

One unique aspect about DAP is its commitment to serving all individuals affected by domestic abuse regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. The organization recognizes that LGBTQ+ individuals face unique challenges when it comes to accessing resources related to domestic violence due to discrimination they may face from service providers or lack thereof culturally competent care.

DAP offers a range of services designed specifically for survivors' needs such as:

24/7 Hotline: A confidential hotline staffed by trained advocates who provide crisis intervention support over the phone.
Emergency Safe Shelter: A secure location where survivors can stay with their children while they receive counseling services.
Counseling Services: Individual therapy sessions with licensed therapists who specialize in trauma-informed care.
Legal Advocacy Services: Assistance navigating legal systems such as filing restraining orders or obtaining custody arrangements.
Community Outreach Programs: Educational programs designed for schools, workplaces or other organizations aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence prevention strategies.

DAP's team consists mainly of highly trained professionals including licensed therapists with expertise in treating trauma-related disorders like PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). They work collaboratively with other agencies such as law enforcement officials when necessary ensuring that clients receive comprehensive care throughout their healing journey.

In addition to providing direct services DAP also engages in advocacy efforts aimed at changing policies related to domestic abuse prevention strategies on both local and national levels. The organization works closely with lawmakers policymakers community leaders educators healthcare providers faith-based organizations businesses media outlets etc., all stakeholders invested in ending this epidemic once-and-for-all!

Conclusion

The Domestic Abuse Project Of Delaware County provides essential resources needed by victims/survivors seeking help from abusive relationships; it empowers them towards self-sufficiency while advocating against societal norms that perpetuate this cycle within our communities! With its commitment towards inclusivity coupled with evidence-based practices rooted within trauma-informed care principles - there's no doubt why so many people trust them during times when they need it most!
