If I could rate lower, I would! They say they're helping people and I know they do, they just pick and choose who apparently. I was told by employees and volunteers since I was young in an abusive household that if I ever needed help to call them. I really thought they would help me when I was ready to leave my abuser. I was wrong! Homeless in the middle of WI winter with 2 kids and nowhere to go to escape the abuse for any of us, they turned us away. I called everyday for a month and a half and all of my requests for help were ignored. I did not even need much. To feel safe and know my kids were safe was all I needed. I drained all of my accounts to stay at hotels until I had nothing left. I can't stand hearing about what a "great" place this is because for 20 years they told me they'd help and when I was ready they were only on the other end of a phone call doing and saying nothing to help us! I'm glad I am no longer homeless but being forced to live in one of my abusers buildings so my children have a roof over thier heads, even if it's at thier own risk and expense of abuse! How is this ok or justified? How can you say you stand up for victims yet pick which ones you think need the help? How can you raise money and take donations from people yet choose who and how you want to help while you leave the rest of us to suffer and fend for ourselves? If you can't treat everyone equally, at least don't pretend that you care because it gives women false hope they have somewhere or someone to turn to for help! That obviously is NOT true!

I volunteer for DAIS, the Domestic Abuse Intervention Services. The people there are absolutely wonderful; they have been very welcoming. I love volunteering there, not only because helping people affected by domestic violence is, as I see it, a moral obligation of society, but also because I feel very valued by the whole team. Everyone there cares a lot about what they do to help victims. This is a great place to volunteer and to donate to!

Because DAIS is the only facility of its kind in the immediate area, there is a waiting list, which is unfortunate. The advocates are extremely caring and don't work there because of the pay- they do it because they want to help people. The staff at DAIS does so much good for so many. It's a drag that some don't agree, I'm sorry for their circumstances.
