Nice from the outside, if you want to go in then you have to pay. Do not find this correct in a church, even if an exhibition is on display. After all, places of worship should be freely accessible to everyone.

Beautiful church. Awesome stained glass. Very detailed wood. It was 10 euro a person. There was a world press exhibition that had some interesting and very sad pictures. I think we spent like 30 minutes here

To give an honest opinion, the church isn't that unique unless you know your Dutch history. It contains the graves of some of the most iconic Dutch admirals of the 17th century but other than that, it doesn't have any features that stand out from other churches.

I have seen several exhibitions and I am always a bit underwhelmed by the experience. It lacks depth and a certain engagement with the audience.

At the time of this review, they are showing and exhibition about the Dutch Royal family. It consists ofan audio tour with some projected images. There is a better complete experience at the Palace on Dam square.

It s worth a visit as an architectural structure, and I do miss the great exhibition concerning Mandela, Gandhi, and MLK I had the pleasure of seeing on January 2018. The one regarding Suriname from my early December 2019 was interesting, but nowhere as close as seeing Nelson Mandela s handwriting from his time in prison on a Shakespeare, or Gandhi s bicycle.

It remains a wonderful combination; such an important exhibition as "The Great Suriname exhibition" housed in such an important church. Two greats who do not compete for the first place. Because a space has been created for the exhibition within the building. Well and professionally resolved, but the church as a monument is being shortened.

Regularly a new exhibition. Worth it. Now "The Life of Buddha". Beautiful exhibition. Several works of art, audio tour voiced by Erica Terpstra, who wrote a children's book "with a nod to Buddha" at the request of Nieuwe Kerk. You can attend a mindfullness workshop. I found the three hills painful ground most moving.

Last Sunday I've visited the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) on Amsterdam's Dam Square. The church is both beautiful from the outside as from the inside. It's quite special to visit this unique building, because it's one of the oldest buildings of the city. I also went here to check out the Marylin Monroe exhibition which was okay, but not something that I'd personally recommend; the audio-tour was average and the content inside was also a bit average, imo. This is why I ranked it with 4 stars rather than 5.

"this is NOT a church, it's a museum"...This is what we heard from the guard at the entrance when we stepped inside and asked if it were possibile to visit the church. You cannot visit it unless you pay for the exhibition... A shame

Great exhibition about Buddhism (& the life of the Buddha) including extra artists whose work informed the subject, LOADS of statues, written & visual information and on the Monday we went to a(n introduction to) guided meditation given by a zen priest who, to my delight was a serene, cheerful, black womsn Angel Kyodo Williams who fell very lightly on your energy while talking race & liberation politics and her book Radical Dharma.
Really cool, very interesting & insightful exhibition

As a church, it is an impressive building and worth a visit to see the windows, the carved wood and the organ but I had to pay to go round the exhibition to see them properly. On the other hand, I'm glad I went round the Suriname exhibition as I discovered how little I knew about the country. It's well presented and absorbing and again reminds us that the world is bigger and more diverse than our back gardens.

Always interesting exhibitions and handy audio guide. Bring headphones so you don't need to have the audio guide in your hand. If you don't have a Museumkaart maybe it's not good value, but if you do (or any other pass) is a good complement to the Royal Palace next to it.

Great place to visit. The audio guide gives great information not just about the building, but about Catholic traditions and why certain things were done at this church. Definitely worth the price of admission.

I was there several years ago and it seemed to me like a typical Protestant church: cold, naked, sad and inhospitable. It does not invite faith or prayer and even less to recollection, being a simple exhibition hall. The stained glass and the organ are beautiful.

I was pretty surprised by how many euro's it cost to get into this church... there is no place to light a candle or otherwise pray in this historic space... but there is a beautiful piece or three of art and the price comes with an audio tour that I wasn't patient enough to enjoy once I realized how commercialized the space is...

The church is beautiful but it s owned by private investors now that rent it out for functions. The have taken remains from the burial spaces below the floor and moved them to a different location in the city. Then the burial slabs were turned over so that the ground is more even for high heeled shoes to walk on. It s always a shame to see these historic spaces prostituted out. The entry fee was steep as well and not a good value for what is offered.

Protestant Gothic church transformed into a museum-like, with payment at the entrance. The cost is justified only if you are really interested in the historical period, otherwise you should leave it alone. The automatic guide included in the admission price is interesting, with many totems to activate to make you explain the various points of interest.

Nice building but haven't been inside. On the spot it turned out that we should have booked online for the Suriname exhibition. We then went to do something else. For some older people who came from the east of the country especially for the exhibition, it was sour. No courtesy from the people at the door. Unfortunately.

About De Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam

De Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam: A Cultural Haven for Art and Inspiration

De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam is a renowned cultural institution that has been captivating audiences with its groundbreaking exhibitions of art, photography, and inspiring individuals and cultures for decades. Located in the heart of Amsterdam's historic city center, this iconic church-turned-museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of art, history, and spirituality.

The history of De Nieuwe Kerk dates back to the 15th century when it was built as a Catholic church. Over the centuries, it has undergone several transformations and served various purposes before being converted into a museum in 1980. Today, it stands as one of Amsterdam's most popular tourist attractions and cultural landmarks.

One of the hallmarks of De Nieuwe Kerk is its commitment to showcasing thought-provoking exhibitions that challenge visitors' perceptions about art and culture. From large-scale installations to intimate displays featuring rare artifacts from around the world, each exhibition is carefully curated to provide an immersive experience that engages all senses.

One such exhibition was "World Press Photo," which showcased some of the most powerful images captured by photojournalists from around the globe. The exhibition drew thousands of visitors who were moved by the raw emotion captured in each photograph.

Another notable exhibition was "Marilyn Monroe: The Last Sitting," which featured photographs taken by Bert Stern just six weeks before Monroe's untimely death. The exhibition provided an intimate glimpse into Monroe's life while also exploring themes such as beauty standards and celebrity culture.

In addition to its exhibitions, De Nieuwe Kerk also hosts concerts, lectures, and other events throughout the year. These events offer visitors a chance to engage with artists and experts on various topics related to art history or contemporary issues facing society today.

But what truly sets De Nieuwe Kerk apart is its commitment to sustainability. In recent years, it has implemented several initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint while also promoting environmental awareness among visitors. For example:

- It uses LED lighting throughout its galleries
- It sources food locally whenever possible
- It encourages visitors to use public transportation or bicycles instead of cars

These efforts have earned De Nieuwe Kerk recognition as one of Amsterdam's most sustainable museums – an achievement that reflects its dedication not only to preserving cultural heritage but also protecting our planet for future generations.

In conclusion,

De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam is more than just a museum; it's a cultural haven where people can come together to explore new ideas through art exhibitions or engaging events like concerts or lectures on various topics related either historically or contemporary issues facing society today while promoting environmental awareness among visitors through sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing their carbon footprint wherever possible!
