I helped clean the shelter and too good in for the clients. I had all my questions answered and it was obvious how much they cared.

Met with Lorraine, the Executive Director at Day by Day and learned about their incredible service to the community. If you have a chance to stop by and learn more or volunteer, you will be amazed at what this little spot is offering to the people of Oshkosh during the cold winter months. They are currently a place for up to 25 people to have a warm meal served with friendly company, a hot shower, a fresh load of laundry and a safe clean place to sleep 180 days out of the year. Their goal is to create a new space that will provide this refuge year-round.
Overall I got a sense of deep commitment and a true example of no-judgement for those who find their circumstances warranting a need for this type of shelter.
Before Covid-19 Our church provided meals on Wed or Friday night about once ever one or two months. Two of the volunteers on Wed were there every Wed that we were there and were very kind and dedicated along with the staff. My hats off to that kind of commitment for these two individuals.
Yes, the young volunteers, a lot of students, are friendly. However, the facility itself needs to run more efficiently. Their intake process and who they offer the shelter to is very POOR ! As a student and volunteer in social service areas 15 years I found people that really need and deserve the shelter assistance are too often shorted out. Alcoholics and other drugs are common among homeless, but good people struggling to make a life who are clean get shorted too much. DayBDay set guidelines down one day preaching that they be followed and then next day honest people following guidelines condemned. Get more structure and policies with consistency and efficiency with not just young people, who are great, but not in position to be running a facility and be more fair about things.
They're great people the staffs are wonderful people
The staff is friendly and fair if you're in need of shelter go there
The staff are some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet. I always felt safe and sound. I couldn't say enough good things about the place. Considering the situation that I was in at the time they made a huge difference in my life. If I lived to be a thousand I couldn't possibly pay back what they did for me.
