The best CF gym in the city! Jim, Rachel, Jess, Meg, Steve and Brian are by far the best coaches/motivators and life changers!!! I highly recommend this gym regardless of the current shape you are in. They will support and help to change your life and reach your goals.

I've been a member here for just under 5 years and I am usually not one for reviews. However, I think it's about time credit is given where credit is due. When I first walked in, I thought I was in the best shape of my life. I needed more of a challenge, and I knew that if I was going to take on a whole new form of training, I wanted to learn from someone who had more than just a weekend certificate. I knew that Jim had an extensive background through both education and experience, and the well-deserved recognition as one of the best Personal Trainers in the area, so I dropped in, and I'm so glad that I did. Overall, I'd have to say the past 5 years have made me better, in large because of my experience here; As it turns out, I was NOT in my best shape, and today I am stronger, have much better endurance, and am a whole lot more flexible that I thought I'd ever be. However, I've also seen things like a pre-existing chronic shoulder injury go away, and most importantly, I've gained a lot of friends through a consistently growing community "where everybody knows your name." These things come from a coach who programs specifically to benefit ALL of his members and their corresponding goals, and more importantly, a Business Owner who is consistently working to ensure he's providing the best possible product that he can, to his clientele. Whether you're an experienced athlete, looking for a new challenge, someone who's never entered a gym in their life and but wants to get in shape, or are simply just new in town and looking to meet flat out good people, you would be a welcomed addition to this family.
Breaking Point is an amazing facility with supportive, knowledgeable staff and peers who are inclusive as well as encouraging. I couldn't recommend this gym enough!
Breaking Point Fitness is the best gym that I have ever been to. It's not just a place where you pay your fee and get a sub-par work out and leave for the day. The coaches genuinely care about your progress and you as a person. Not only are they extremely knowledgable on fitness and health, but they are wonderful people who have great life advice! They feel more like friends than anything. Patient, understanding and persistent are the words I would use to best describe them. The people are also what makes this place so great, never judged me once and always suggesting new ways for me to succeed on a workout. I feel comfortable around them 100%. If you are up for a positive change for both your mind and body I wouldn't hesitate on joining!
I have nothing but love for this place. I joined in November of 2016 as a very out of shape individual with hardly any athleticism and they truly were amazing in assisting me get closer to my goals. Not only are their coaches amazing to work with, they defiantly work to create an inclusive and friendly environment. If you re looking at different boxes in the area, look no further.
I'm really happy with my experience here! Big, spacious gym with lots of equipment and a very supportive, cohesive and friendly community of people (coaches and athletes)! All skill levels are welcome without question. You're encouraged to test your limits *safely*. Finally, I think this gym has one of the most affordable memberships in the area!
Well breaking point fitness and all its Members and coachs "especially coachs" have proven to me that motivation does exist and yes its True and very very REAL. When times get hard, and maybe ypu are feeling a little down or doubting yourself,, the coaches are right there 100 percent to have your back and pick ya right up
After trying a few different crossfit boxes in the Philadelphia area, once I found Breaking Point Fitness-Crossfit Ridge Ave I knew it was the perfect place for me. Once you walk into the doors, you immediately become a member of more than just a gym, but a community of like-minded people all striving to better themselves. Whether you are an experienced crossfitter trying to advance your skills or a mother of 5 working hard to improve your health, there is a place for you at Crossfit Ridge Ave. The environment here is incomparable to any other box I have been to; every single member genuinely wants to see one another improve, offering advice or just extra motivation to help you get through the workout and reach your own individual athletic goals. Owner/ Head coach Jim is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced trainer whose thoroughly devised programming undoubtedly forces every single member to push their limits and make drastic improvements as athletes. The class sizes at Crossfit Ridge Ave are perfect (5-10 people average depending on the class time) for you to receive hands on attention from Jim who makes sure your individual needs are met while pushing you to exceed both your physical and mental limits and have fun along the way.
Regardless of your previous fitness level, there is a place for you at Crossfit Ridge Ave. Give it a try and I guarantee you will find yourself drenched in sweat, pushing yourself harder than you have ever imagined, while gaining new friendships with amazing people along the way!
I joined the gym earlier this year when I first moved to Philly. I've been crossfit training for the last few years and am well aware that there are "good" gyms and "bad" gyms. So naturally I went online to look at reviews and committed to drop into 2 different gyms before choosing one. This was the first one I choose to drop into and this was the only one I dropped into. The coaches are very experienced. They genuinely are concerned about you performing the movements safely and offer suggestions to improve your performance. The members of the gym are a mixed crowd... you have a few from every age group, you're bound to make a new friend. Everyone is very supportive of one another as we are competitive. Whether you're a beginner who has never worked out or you're like an Olympic lifter, you will fit in just fine. Also, the schedule is so flexible that it makes it hard to find an excuse not to show up. So if you need an extra push when you're working out because you can't push yourself or if you hate working out by yourself and need a buddy no matter when you show up to the gym.. this is the right place for you.
These guys are the best! I was a 1000+ mile per year runner but then I got hurt so I joined this gym to get a more well rounded workout. That was 1 year ago and now my knee and back pain are gone. I'm older than most of the members and coaches and definitely not as strong or flexible but everyone there is so supportive and encouraging I never feel like I don't belong. The coaches jim, meg, brian, and jess are fantastic. Can't say enough good things about breaking point fitness.
Breaking Point Fitness is not only an amazing Crossfit/weightlifting gym, but it is filled with some of the best people you will ever meet. Jim and Rachel are two of the most generous people I've ever met. They and the rest of the coaches are not only knowledgeable, but have a genuine interest in your safety and progress as an athlete. Crossfit gyms are not comparable to a globe gym in anyway-atmosphere or cost of membership-and that's the best part about it. Not only is BPF the most welcoming gym I've ever joined, but their membership cost is one of the most reasonable in the city and you absolutely get what you pay for. You essentially have a personal trainer who will not only help tailor the programming to your needs and current level, but also gets to know you. The coaches know if you can do more weight, or if you should back off a little on any given day. That is the type of care and attention you won't find in a globe gym. I walked into BPF over two years ago scared to death to start exercising and so worried I wouldn't make any friends. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the people and have my gym time become so much more than just an hour a day to lift. I could quite literally love on this place and it's people for hours. I would highly recommend Breaking Point Fitness to anyone who wants a supportive environment to learn about Crossfit and lifting and wants to grow as a person and reach their goals. The BPF fam is second to none.
Hands down the best gym I ever joined. Every single coach is knowledgeable and encourages every member to push themselves past what they thought they could do. The programming is the best around and everyone at the gym is friendly and encouraging. If you're looking for a gym that will push you while also having fun, this place is for you!
Horrible experience. The owner, Jim, doesn't care about the members at all, only about getting their money. And unless you're already friends with "in" crowd, get ready to feel like you're back in high school with all the cliques. The programming is god awful - zero originality, repeats of the same exercises within a few days (ex. row for lengthy distance followed by row for time the very next day). And the strength programming (sniped from a couple of powerlifting greats) follows suit in the zero originality department. It's not fair to jack someone else's programming, pass it off as your own, charge WAY too much for it, and then not give your "athletes" the time of day. So glad to be done with this place. Here's a giant warning to anyone considering joining: don't.
For a guy who started out as a personal trainer and was driven with a dream and motive to help people- Jim is that text book definition. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Jim and Rachel back in the days when CrossFit wasn't a "thing" yet- from having sessions in the limited space in the back of the gym, to the start of Breaking Point in the middle of January in the snow and mud in his backyard all the way to starting up the first location and now on to the second larger gym. Jim and Rachel both have a deep devotion for helping people out and are truly great team players. Since then, I've traveled and lived all around then east coast and tried a handful of other CrossFit locations, but they all striked out when it came to the personal attention and mentality of the team at BP.
The coaches and members are awesome. I had never done crossfit before but felt welcomed right away. The coaches are always looking to help improve your technique and give you tips. I wouldn't go to any other gym.
Breaking Point Fitness is exactly what the name claims, take your body to its breaking point without injury. After being skeptical of cross fit for years I can truly say I'm a convert. Jim and Rachel are phenomenal trainers that provide a welcoming and safe environment for training. This is above and beyond the best experience I've had at a gym with the best results. Twelve pounds down and still going!
This place is not only an amazing gym, it is a community. I am so unbelievably grateful for the amazing friends I have made and family that it has created in manayunk. Could not say enough amazing things about every single Trainer in the gym.
Breaking Point Fitness was my first experience with Crossfit and it was wonderful. After having a baby and struggling with loosing the weight I decided to try crossfit. I fell in love the second I walked in the doors. Jim is absolutely wonderful. His wife Rachel and the rest of the members were so welcoming. The programming at BPF is the best and Jim is the best coach ever. So freaking smart! I moved to Maryland and still haven't found a gym like BPF. Miss that place!
I can't say how much I appreciate all of the trainers at Breaking Point. They are all very knowledgeable and have a genuine concern in making sure you are doing the exercises in the proper way. The environment is friendly and comfortable with a good dose of motivation. If you are looking for something different then your average gym you should seriously consider taking one of their free classes.
Whatever you've been doing to workout stop immediately and join this gym! I was doing HIIT/ boot camp classes for years until I discovered Breaking Point. I wasted a lot of time by not coming to this gym. You will never find anything that More
Warning... Crossfit Ridge Ave is highly addictive. Crossfit Ridge Ave is a great gym with an awesome community of members. Jim Pfromm the owner is a well versed and experienced trainer who strives to add variety to the daily workouts. I am glad to be a member and recommend Crossfit Ridge Ave for all fitness levels.
By far the best gym, programming, and community in Philadelphia. Genuine coaches who care about your performance, safety, and friendship. The constantly varied programming has kicked my butt every day for the past two years, and the strength programming has helped me PR all of my lifts and made me an overall more rounded athlete. Jim & Rachel run a top notch affiliate, where people of all levels are welcomed and succeed. #BPF4LIFE
I didn't think I'd like CrossFit this much, to be honest. It's probably because the coaches and other members are so great. I've lifted weights pretty casually for years, but ever since my first two weeks at Breaking Point in October, I've been hooked. High energy, super welcoming, and challenging in the best way.
Truly an awesome workout! BPF is the best Crossfit gym I ve found. The coaches continually watch you, critique your form and encourage you in diet and reaching your breaking point. The coaches do a great job at fostering a fun and supportive community to workout in.
Friendly and knowledgeable coaches, beautiful facility, best priced crossfit I've been to, and awesome members that cheer you on during every workout whether you're lifting 10 pounds or 100 pounds!!
Breaking Point has been a home away from home for me for the past (almost) 2 years. Prior to joining, I was extremely intimidated by the idea of Crossfit. However, my boyfriend expressed interest in trying it out with me and so we began our fitness journey. Since day 1, we ve been welcomed and accepted by the community with nothing but open arms. The owner and coaches are incredibly knowledgeable on proper form across all movements and will help to ensure you don t injure yourself. BPF offers a variety of programming with tons of scaling options for workouts, making it extremely flexible for people of all fitness levels.
Despite the business being temporarily closed, Jim (the owner) has been doing everything in his power to keep morale up while continuing to keep us motivated and in shape. He s been running Zoom workout classes every day in addition to other miscellaneous classes, virtual social hangouts, posting recipes, challenges, raffles, etc. This community is definitely the most genuine, supportive & uplifting of any that I ve ever been a part of; I truly can t say enough good things about this place. 10/10 highly recommend!
An amazing community of people and instructors. Tons of convenient class times offered and easily the most knowledgeable coaches i have ever had the pleasure of training with. If you are looking to change up your workout, to get stronger both mentally and physically and to re-train your body to new skills this is your place.
There is no place like this. The commitment to your own development by the coaches and the sense of community is something that you will not find anywhere else. The workouts, the coaches, and the members are just awesome!
BPF is one of the most open and welcoming communities I've ever had the privilege to be a part of. I'm a life long athlete, and I cannot recommend this gym enough. The coaching staff brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and gratitude to it's members, and I constantly feel challenged with the variety of workouts, strength training, and nutrition coaching that is offered. The community at BPF is also amazing - I've come to know some of the most supportive, most genuine people here, and as a person who is not native to Philadelphia I cannot express how much that means to me.
If you are new to crossfit, the first class here is free!! The coaches will take the time to teach you how to properly do all the movements so you don't get hurt. Every coach reviews every workout prior to us completing it, and every movement is explained in detail. I am always impressed with the coaches ability to provide modifications to movements as well - if you are not comfortable doing any particular movement, don't worry they'll make sure you are challenged in a different way!
This is the 4th crossfit gym I've belonged to (due to moves) and I have to say the coaches (Jim, Rachel, Brian, Jess, Steve, and Meg) are all very welcoming and helpful. The workouts are exciting and thought is given to conditioning, strength, skill integration. Jim and Rachel do a great job building community through events during the holidays, during the crossfit games, in Sunday Run clubs, and in multiple media platforms. Jim has recently invested in some improvements and now the gym facilities are even better than before! Like all workouts- you get what you put out. I'm not very intense with my training and I've never felt marginalized or excluded when I scale an exercise. I've always received encouragement and answers when I reach out for it. This is a crossfit gym where you can come, grow, work out, and enjoy your experience in a welcoming community.
Since I've been a member of 4 other boxes I can tell you that prices are on point with what you'd expect. I actually think that there are more membership tiers than most others in the area.
I was new to the CrossFit gym scene and BPF certainly made me feel welcome and at home! All the staff is so friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to push you to the next level. Definitely would recommend if you're looking for a new spot to train!
In my own personal experience at BPF, (almost two years now) it all kind of clicked when I stopped making excuses for myself.
Jim, Rachel, Brian, Jess, Steve, and Meg are great coaches and solid people. They continue to give me great advice on my form, technique, and nutrition.
Joining BPF has been a real game changer in the sense that it's helped me change for the better. This is in part to all the great people I get to work out with. #homeawayfromhome
This business breaks the law. They blast music during classes, even at 6 am, that's very loud to residents nearby. We live across the street from them and the music wakes us up in the morning. Then we get to listen to blasting bass all evening while we eat dinner and try to relax.
Both our landlords and our building manager have spoken to the gym about it, but they don't care. I guess as long as they're making money, they're fine with ruining people's lives and property values. We've even called the cops a few times because it's so loud, but they still do whatever they want. We feel helpless and we're considering moving because of this business. Please do not support them!
