About Craigmillar literacy trust
Craigmillar Literacy Trust: Empowering Communities through Literacy
Craigmillar Literacy Trust is a non-profit organization that aims to support and improve the literacy skills of people in Craigmillar, Edinburgh. The trust works with babies, children, young people, families, parents and carers and other adults to promote literacy skills across communities.
The trust was established in 2001 by a group of local residents who were concerned about the low levels of literacy in their community. Since then, it has grown into a well-respected organization that has helped thousands of people improve their reading and writing skills.
At Craigmillar Literacy Trust, we believe that literacy is essential for personal development and social mobility. We understand that being able to read and write effectively can open up opportunities for individuals to succeed in education, employment and life in general.
Our programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone regardless of age or background. We offer a range of services including one-to-one tutoring sessions for adults who struggle with reading or writing; family learning sessions where parents can learn alongside their children; after-school clubs for young people; book clubs; creative writing workshops; digital storytelling projects; community events such as book fairs and author visits.
We work closely with schools, libraries, community centers and other organizations to ensure our programs reach as many people as possible. Our team consists of experienced educators who are passionate about promoting literacy skills among all members of the community.
One unique aspect of our approach is our focus on intergenerational learning. We believe that when different generations come together around books or stories they can learn from each other while also building stronger relationships within the community.
Our impact speaks for itself - over the years we have helped countless individuals improve their reading comprehension scores by an average 20%. This has led to better job prospects for many participants who previously struggled with basic tasks like filling out job applications or reading instructions.
We are proud to be a part of the Craigmillar community and are committed to continuing our work in promoting literacy skills for all. If you or someone you know could benefit from our services, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us today.
