Newly renovated rooms, a helpful and friendly staff. A great place to stay right in the middle of downtown Charleston!
We stayed June 11-14. The hotel re-opened on June 4. Service was limited and somewhat disappointed that the hotel still charged a premium (we paid $189/nite not incl tax for a King room, but the bed did not seem like a King and we have one at home). Rooms at this Courtyard are small. Almost boutique-like. There was no housekeeping. If you needed fresh towels, leave them outside your door and housekeeping will bring a set of towels in a bag and hang them on your door. You will have to make your bed and take out your trash too. Fresh glasses will need to be picked up at the bar downstairs which is only open for a few hours each evening. The cafe was only open for snacks in the early evening but not for breakfast.
Parking onsite was $30 a night ($27+tax). No valet service available. Good luck finding a spot on the deck or below in the garage. What we did was leave in the morning for our excursions outside the city and came back around 4:00 pm to get a good spot down in the garage. Due to COVID restrictions, our dinner reservations were always late - at 9:00 pm. Actually it is much safer that way, not as busy or crowded. We ate lunch early to avoid the crowd, purchased snacks like cheese, crackers, charcuterie and a bottle of wine at Harris Teeter for our 4:30 happy hour back in our hotel room before eating our late dinner. Restaurants had a limited menu. It is best to call the restaurant ahead of time for your reservations. Resy or Open Table is spotty and do not show if the restaurant is open. Yelp seems to be reliable.
The shops, sites and restaurants are all walkable which is a good thing. We made our 4-day getaway work, just plan ahead, and don't expect a lot.
It looks great in the lobby but that's about the extent of it. My room smelled and felt damp and musty. The a/c was quite loud. And the hotel does nothing at all for Gold members. The parking garage was mostly flooded when I arrived although it hadn't been raining.
Nice hotel but only one elevator working. Price of parking was way too high.
Very nice and a great place to start your day in Charleston.
The staff was nice and the hotel was clean. Its close to everything if you love to walk around Charleston. No real complaints.
Our room was nice and enjoyable. We liked the location and amenities as well.
The downside: It started when I confused the front desk staff by asking to check in, and they said that they had no more rooms. This was on me because we had checked in through the mobile app and really just needed an extra key for my husband. Minor chaos ensued where we were told we couldn t stay there and I clarified I had already paid for the room, checked in and had a key on my phone. The front desk staff gave me a hard time about trying to go to my room and wanted to check my name, which is important for safety reasons but disappointing that they didn t just look us up from the beginning. Result: we were told we were fortunate we had a room and that next time things (might) happen . Oh well late night things are confusing some times and technology can be confusing too. The guy later gave me a toothbrush and we acted like nothing had happened.
Then I got a bill for parking my car there. We used Uber and never rented a car. It takes up your time to review your bill and call and get it fixed and can be a downer.
Hotel and pool very nice. The valet parking less so.
Phenomenal accommodations! Great pillows, bed, bathroom, and Starbucks on sight!!!!! Love this place!!!!
Great location right in the heart of the historic district, with almost all the sights a walkable distance away. Rooms well-maintained and clean, with helpful and friendly staff working the front desk. Would definitely recommend and will stay here again next time I'm in Charleston.
Was there for the 1st Stitchfest sewing event. Staff here very friendly and the food was very good !
Staff was wonderful and very polite. Room was nice, clean, and the bed was comfy. I didn't stay long enough to use most of the amenities, so I can't speak for those. Overall satisfactory experience
Bed Bugs. Stayed at this hotel because of a wedding. Woke up with bites down my legs, intense swelling, huge rashes on the second day. After a trip to the doctor who verified my worst fears, I contacted the front desk and was told I would be hearing back from them. It s been near two months and have not heard from them.
The most beautiful Courtyard by Marriott hotel I've ever seen. A fantastic experience in a great location. Staff were courteous, public areas beautiful and accommodating & lady a concierge was very engaged. Would love to come back to stay!
Great location! My husband and I were visiting Charleston for the first time to celebrate our anniversary and we were not disappointed! Cheyenne at check-in was great, she was able to get us upgraded to a balcony room...highly suggest getting room 602, the view was awesome! We will definitely be back!
Very clean hotel. Walking distance to all of the sights. Front desk and housekeeping staff is extremely nice and helpful. Would stay again if I find myself in Charleston again.
Super friendly staff. Great breakfast offerings. I had the Farmer's Bowl...filling and tasty. Room was clean and ready at arrival. Adequate fitness center w/treadmill, elliptical, some weights. Great location, too.
Place was nice, greeted warmly, but was not told about $23 parking fee until I saw it on my bill. My room as a Marriott Associate was $49, so my parking cost was almost half the amount of my room. With there being parking on the street near by guest should be given the option. Other than that nice peaceful stay.
My wife and I had a lovely stay here when on our anniversary trip in Charleston. The staff and accommodations were fantastic. Parking is not free but you do have a safe place to park even though the spots are small and tight. The rooms were clean, light and spacious and they had a great pool and fitness center. Great location across from Marion Square and the farmers market and you can walk most anywhere downtown.
Very nice. Close to the park and within walking distance to the market.
Lucas and staff are great! The location is excellent for access to King Street and East Bay. Nice lobby and neat exercise room.
Rooms are modern. Hotel is clean, lobby seems new. Walking distance to good restaurants (the King Street area) and a park. Parking in the structure is limited but plenty of space in the overflow lot across the street.
Very nice and clean rooms, service was wonderful and quick!
Excellent location to Downtown Charleston. Convenient parking.
Sewage smell in the hall way and hair in the bathroom
Good location, have nothing bad to say about staff or cleanliness
Very nice spot and a great location to use as home base while walking on King all day.
Down town Charleston is absolutely beautiful. I was alone on a business trip but I'd love to come back with my wife. Lots of good restaurants close by and the Courtyard was above average in my opinion. Great staff and nice rooms.
Staff terrific no company support Not what it used to be.
Do yourself a favor, dont stay here. Only stayed here as the Hampton was booked up and we have always had great experiences previously at Marriots.
Not only is this hotel over priced but its a bit run down, dark, reeks of some over sprayed fabreeze product covering up other not so great smells throughout the hotel, its also super noisey (excludes the renovations) and cleanliness is questionable. The best part besides leaving was the location isnt terribly far from the market. There are also a few great breakfast joints within walking distance.
Hotel was fine. We were disappointed upon check in that were weren't going to get a king bed, even though we requested it and are the highest tier of Marriott Rewards. The room was okay. Its huge, but has only one seat, and no couch or coffee table. Kind of strange.
The place needs renovation. My first room was cramped, very worn & torn. Rusty shower , second room also worn.
Great location and the staff had great tips for my stay.
Stayed here one time it really liked it. Perfect location right in the center of everything. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Staff weren't like courteous, nor accommodating, though the hotel was nice.
Dec 29 - Jan 2. I paid around 250 per night.
Paid breakfast is great, but I cannot say the same about the dinning room staff. On the other hand, the front desk staff was awesome. The hotel location is great. Parking could be an issue. The rooms smell good at times but there is dirt all over. Several things look filthy. Our bathroom was not that good and you could check the urine spot on the pic which has been like that for a few days already. I think this hotel is overpriced for this time of the year and I do not recommend it at all.
Clean. Nice desk clerks. Guests were nice. Atmosphere is good. Location is great for tourists. Starbucks and grill. Love the room and walk in shower with shower doors, large lighted vanity mirror. Closet. Sofa, tables.
Everything you would come to expect from Courtyard. Great rooms. Great service.
Excellent location, staff and hotel! We really enjoyed our stay. I really like wood floors in a hotel. The valet was quick and efficient as well.
I'm a bit puzzled by some of the negative reviews. I had a great stay, ample parking, nice room, etc. This is probably the nicest Courtyard Marriott I've ever stayed in. Perhaps some folks are accustomed to a full-service Marriott or similar.
Can't beat the location, either. Love downtown Charleston!
Very nice courtyard, much better than other ones we have stayed at.
Pretty good so far. Fire alarm went off at 8 am but there's nothing they could do about that. Glad that it's working.
Frances was very helpful and her customer service at the bistro was amazing! Southern hospitality at it's best!
This is really nice I loved it here, the best hotel ever.
Concierge and desk service very good. Location fantastic. Rooms in a bit of disrepair. Hanger on back of door in bathroom fell off. Electrical outlet loose in wall. Tropical Storm Bonnie gave the window a but of a challenge, as plaster fell off from the window frame onto the floor.
Front desk was friendly.. slow however.. breakfast was a nightmare.. waited 45 minutes.. at 25 I saw orders coming out that were ordered over 15" after mine.. I went up and asked what the problem was she asked if I would like it to go. I responded yes.. at another 20" still no order. And another round brought out I informed I would like a refund.. had to go to front desk.. response was to comp the parking which there were none in the lot or the deck I had to park in front of the hotel..
I have to say I do not write reviews but I very much enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful whenever we needed something(front desk staff as well as valet). The room was very clean and the pillows were crazy comfortable. We didn t utilize much of amenities because of Covid which was not a big deal at all. The location was great we ended up just being able to walk everywhere, we didn t drive at all. If I m ever in the area again, I d definitely stay here again. Thanks for helping make my trip such a wonderful experience!
Excellent location, beds are super comfy and breakfast menu is on point.
Check in via app is always easy. Guest services, mainly Lucas, was polite and very helpful for our entire stay. Valet was quick each time we came and went. Bed was comfortable (although it did squeak quite a bit), room was very clean for the most part, and the gym was well equipped for most workouts. Proximity to nearby to do places is good as well. I would definitely stay here again.
Great location, clean rooms, friendly staff. Very close to shopping, food, and historical place.
No breakfast. Very expensive. And I had to pay more to park my car there! Just a standard hotel nothing special about it. The one good thing was that it was close to downtown so you could walk.
Awesome location and great price for historic district. Great staff
Worst hvac of any hotel I ve stayed in. Come home after dinner and room is 80 degrees. Shirts in the closet are damp from humidity bc the ac doesn t cool the room. Nice location, terrible hvac
I'm a long time Marriott devotee and this hotel definitely lived up to my standards. What stood out above all else was the high level of customer service from everyone I encountered.
When I came to check in, they had a room ready for me, but I had to be difficult and request a room on a higher floor because I'm a girl who loves a view. I had to wait a little longer, maybe 45 minutes, and several people checked on me while I was waiting and they were even apologetic for the wait, even though it was my own pickiness that caused me to wait. It was WELL worth it for a top floor corner room with views of the water.
The hotel itself was in a good location. Walking distance to several bars and restaurants. Parking is an extra cost and I wasn't planning on paying for it but after driving around several times with no luck, I gave in. The parking that is attached to the hotel isn't much though. There is a small garage underground along with some more spaces above, but they also have overflow parking across the street. I tried the garage once but then decided to use the lot across the street for the rest of my time because it was easier.
The rates were comparable with many other places downtown, even when adding in the parking. But just knowing how nice and accommodating everyone was, I think that sets this place apart. Although, that could just be the standard for southern hospitality. Either way, I'd definitely stay again.
Clean, but overpriced for the quality of the hotel. Expensive rooms and no continental breakfast. They don't tell you parking cost $20/night/car. You certainly do not get what you pay for
My stay was relaxing and the staff was very hospitable
Excellent hotel in the historic part of town. Parking is extra (fairly expensive), but the overall service at the hotel is wonderful. Friendly, professional staff, a great gym, and clean modern rooms.
The Courtyard by Marriott Charleston Historic District, located on Calhoun Street in Downtown Charleston, South Carolina, was a great place to stay while visiting the Charleston area. The hotel is located just across the street from Marion Square, which means the location is right in the middle of all the Charleston sites. We walked to see many old Charleston buildings and churches, as well as to a local restaurant and a couple of clubs. It was also a short drive down to the Battery, Rainbow Row, and the famed Pinapple fountain. The amenities in the hotel were good, although a number of normal offerings were impeded by COVID. The room was comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed our stay!
Friendly staff and clean place. I only stayed one night, so can't say much more than that.
Wonderful hotel in the heart of Charleston. I highly recommend it because, its within walking distance of just about everything!
Clean and comfy hotel. Really close to the action! Very walkable and near a city park. Staff was kind.
There was a terrible sewer smell on our floor. We asked to change floors or rooms but were told "this is normal it often smells when it rains in Charleston." The bathroom was full of hair and the fridge had a strange smell although it looked clean and it was empty. The location was awesome in the heart of downtown Charlston SC. The city view from the room was a nice touch and the staff was really nice.
Our group of groomsmen did not know how to tie bow ties and the front desk came to the rescue with enthusiastic and helpful assistance.
Wonderful Location in the heart of the downtown historical district of Charleston. Any and everything you Travel to Charleston to see is either within walking distance or a few short Minutes away. The staff has always been full of southern hospitality Everytime I've walked inside the double doors. Mike Davis is a very familiar face to me there. If you need anything, even outside his "line off duty" you can go ahead and consider it done. With a smile.
Fantastic facility and even better service. Front desk attendant "Laurie" really helped me out of a situation that otherwise would have been impossible. At the end of the day, it is the people that work there that bring me (and others) back again and again.
One of the worst Marriott s I have ever stayed: the comforters are paper thin and not real down, old squishy mattresses, amenities are bare bones (no lotion, no extra blankets or bathrobe) carelessly repainted old furniture, old gym equipment, etc. location is great and staff is very nice and attentive but that s where the good things end.
To begin with, it is stated that there is wi-fi access. No wi-fi access; free or otherwise. One elevator out of two worked. When we arrived to our room, for the most part it was neat but clean was another story. It appeared to have not been vacuumed for several visits. There were reviews that had been completed but never picked up, dating back to the beginning of August. There was urine on the bathroom floor. When I attempted to report this, I was placed on hold and no body ever picked up the phone. I attempted to use the Concieire but she would totally ignore me. The front desk personnel are rude, obnoxious, and arrogant.
The room away from the water was nicer feather one next to the water. People like to leave the windows open when they see the harbor in the rooms musty.
Nice rooms. Hot water in shower. Friendly check in staff and clean hotel
They dont have room service apart form that nice place to stay.
We came here to watch the eclipse. Ended up driving to Greenville since the weather wasn't looking great in Charleston. I received a call from the hotel around noon telling me our room was flooded. They told me they would move us to a new room and that our belongings weren't damaged. I was annoyed at first, frustrated that they wouldn't let us double check the room and annoyed again that they put us in a room next to the ice maker. I know they are busy and probably sold out of rooms because of the solar eclipse event so I'm trying to stay positive. I was happy with their attention to my frustrations and wanting to make things right and do it quickly. I would come back here again.
Great location, comfortable beds, really helpful concierge.
