This shelter boasts and prides themselves on being the voice for the animal, and that they do everything possible to rehome an animal. A week long "evaluation" was supposed to be conducted in conjunction with the extensive questionnaire based on behavior and issues provided by owner. Their form and all communication with us confirmed that one incident was not enough to make an animal unadoptable. And that every effort would be made to give him an actual assessment with the goal to rehome the animal. I can verify for fact that this is not their actual policy or actions. The decision maker glanced at a form, did not actually understand the situation and ended a sweet loving dogs life without remorse or an actual evaluation of the animal. The only reason we chose this facility, and even offered to pay all expenses related to adoption and assessment, was that they would not euthanize him and we would be notified at the end of the evaluation what their determination was. When we called to check on the animal to see how things were going the day after they took him we were notified that they had euthanized him that morning. If we would have known he would have been killed within a day after no actual evaluation we would have made other arrangements. Absolute classless and poor execution of policy by people who obviously don't have an animals best interest at heart. I believe their reviews speak volumes about what actually goes on here. We were large donors to this shelter, but no longer.

The staff were not nice at all. When I went to go adopt a new kitten after my old cat just passed away, the staff member who was showing us the kittens showed no remorse when we explained our situation to her. We asked questions about their adoption process as well, and she was just not helpful. Overall she just wasn t making me excited to adopt, and looked uninterested in telling us details about the kittens. She was quite rude and unpleasant to talk to. The worst part was that she didn t even say sorry after hearing that our cat passed away just two days ago before we went to the humane society. She made it seem like she didn t care about animals at all. A couple other staff were also a bit rude, and made it a bad experience. When we came back the next day we finally found a friendly staff member that was very enjoyable and gave us so much information on the kitten we were looking at. She was so nice and sweet and now about a year later my cat is healthy and beautiful! (As pictured in profile picture) I m very thankful for that one staff member, otherwise we might ve went to a different shelter. In all it was a pretty uncomfortable and not so great experience. I don t think I ll be adopting from there again, but who knows. Maybe by the time I go back they ll have nicer and more caring staff.

The folks at CRHS were very communicative and friendly during the adoption process. The facility grounds are beautiful and open and it is obvious the animals there are well cared for. The dog I adopted has been a great addition to the family. CRHS even gave her an awesome goody bag which she has been enjoying!

I went in to get a new ID tag for my dog and I love it. It only cost me $5 for the one I got and they were able to put everything I wanted on it. They also have options to get your cat or dogs nails trimmed for cheap. You do have to call ahead because they come out to you.

Very hard-working and dedicated staff who truly care about the well-being of the animals they come across. No animal gets turned away when in need of help! Also added my fur-baby to the family from here and he's the best kitty ever!

Was approved to volunteer and contribute to society. Completed training and met the dogs. Fell in love! They ran a background check and called me and revoked my position as a volunteer (no record). I requested a copy per my legal right..and was completely ignored. I ve been told time and time again that the Winona area humane society is not the most open place to volunteer and they can be discriminatory. However, I do commend them on being an anti euthinisation shelter and they care for there animals very well since getting a new dog manager, Nadine. She was very kind.
