Such a beautiful place! The hall (which served of waiting room when we went there) is just a bit small which is not great for people who can't wait too long standing up. I would recommend to go there to do the guided tour or listen to classical music

Beautiful building! Wonderful acoustic! Free wine during the intermission. They also have guided tour which will bring you to the backstage. I later found out that our guide was one of the violinist of the royal concertgebouw orchestra!
Some tips on buying tickets: the wonderful feature of the grand music hall is that you get almost the same quality of sound in each seat. I ve seated in many corners and the acoustic was indistinguishable. However, although the podium has the cheapest price and you can see the whole orchestra and the conductor, I d recommend against it. Seeing all the movement especially the conductor s is a bit distracting because conductors normally has a lot of facial expression when communicating with the orchestra silently.

One of the most beautiful concert halls I have ever visited. Great sound and acoustics. Very helpful and friendly staff. Definitely recommended for a great concert experience, regardless of the music genre.

About Concertgebouw

Concertgebouw: A World-Class Concert Hall with Unmatched Acoustics and Programming

Concertgebouw, also known as Het Koninklijk Concertgebouw, is a world-renowned concert hall located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is considered one of the most important concert halls in the world due to its exceptional acoustics and diverse programming of high-quality performances.

The history of Concertgebouw dates back to 1881 when a group of music enthusiasts founded the Society for the Promotion of Music in Amsterdam. The society aimed to promote classical music by organizing concerts and commissioning new works from composers. However, they soon realized that they needed a proper venue for their events.

In 1883, after two years of fundraising efforts, the society managed to raise enough money to build a concert hall. They hired architect Adolf Leonard van Gendt to design the building, which was completed in 1888. The inaugural concert was held on April 11th that year and featured works by Wagner, Handel, Bach and Beethoven.

Since then, Concertgebouw has become synonymous with excellence in classical music performance. Its main auditorium seats over 2,000 people and boasts an unparalleled acoustic quality that has been praised by musicians and critics alike. In fact, many consider it one of the best-sounding concert halls in the world.

Apart from its exceptional acoustics, what sets Concertgebouw apart is its diverse programming that caters to all tastes and ages. From classical symphonies to jazz concerts; from solo recitals to chamber music ensembles; from contemporary compositions to traditional operas – there's something for everyone at this iconic venue.

Over the years, some of the greatest musicians have graced Concertgebouw's stage including Gustav Mahler (who conducted his own works here), Richard Strauss (who premiered his "Ein Heldenleben" here), Igor Stravinsky (who conducted his "Rite Of Spring" here), Leonard Bernstein (who recorded his famous Mahler cycle here) among others.

Today too it continues this tradition with performances by leading orchestras such as Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra itself along with other international orchestras like Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra or Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra etc., renowned conductors like Mariss Jansons or Bernard Haitink etc., celebrated soloists like Lang Lang or Yo-Yo Ma etc., emerging talents like Daniil Trifonov or Sheku Kanneh-Mason etc., popular artists like Sting or Gregory Porter etc..

Apart from live performances at its main auditoriums - Grote Zaal & Kleine Zaal - it also hosts various educational programs such as masterclasses for young musicians aspiring towards professional careers; workshops & lectures on various aspects related not only just limited within musical domain but also extending towards art & culture more broadly speaking; guided tours through backstage areas where visitors can learn about history behind building itself along with insights into technical aspects involved during productions taking place there regularly throughout year round calendar schedule filled up with variety ranging across genres mentioned above already earlier on!

In conclusion: If you're looking for an unforgettable musical experience that combines exceptional acoustics with diverse programming featuring some of today's most talented performers alongside legendary ones who have made history at this iconic venue over past decades then look no further than Het Koninklijk Concertgebouw!
