Superb infrastructure where the assembly of local and regional representatives of the European Union sits. These representatives allow subnational powers (regions, counties, provinces, departments, municipalities, cities, etc.) to make their voices heard directly within the institutional system of the EU! Well done !

About Committee of the Regions

The Committee of the Regions (CoR) is an advisory body of the European Union that provides a platform for elected representatives from all EU countries to share their opinions on EU legislation that directly impacts regions and cities. The CoR was established in 1994, and since then, it has been playing a crucial role in shaping EU policies by providing valuable insights into the needs and aspirations of local communities.

The CoR is composed of 329 members who are appointed by their respective national governments. These members are either regional or local politicians who have been elected by their constituents. The CoR's main objective is to ensure that the interests of regions and cities are taken into account when EU legislation is being developed.

One of the key functions of the CoR is to provide opinions on legislative proposals put forward by other EU institutions such as the European Commission, Council, and Parliament. These opinions are based on consultations with local stakeholders such as businesses, civil society organizations, and citizens. The CoR's opinions carry significant weight in decision-making processes at both national and EU levels.

In addition to providing opinions on legislative proposals, the CoR also plays an important role in promoting regional cooperation within Europe. It facilitates networking among regional authorities across Europe through various initiatives such as conferences, seminars, study visits, and exchange programs.

The work carried out by the CoR covers a wide range of policy areas including economic development, social affairs, environment protection, transport infrastructure development among others. Its activities aim at ensuring that policies developed at both national and European levels take into account regional differences while promoting sustainable growth across Europe.

To achieve its objectives effectively; The Committee has six commissions which focus on specific policy areas:
1- Commission for Territorial Cohesion Policy
2- Commission for Economic Policy
3- Commission for Social Policy
4- Commission for Environment Climate Change & Energy (ENVE)
5- Commission for Natural Resources (NAT)
6-Commission for Citizenship Governance Institutional Affairs & External Relations (CIVEX)

In conclusion; The Committee of Regions plays a vital role in ensuring that regions' voices are heard within Europe's decision-making process while promoting sustainable growth across Europe through its various initiatives aimed at fostering cooperation among regional authorities across Europe.
