I have been a member for over 20 years only to recently find out i haven't been listed as a member. This is inexcusable in the computer age. Of course my checks were cashed. When you try to call with questions, nobody ever answers the phone. It's impossible to reach the people who are supposed to be respresenting veterinarians. Emails don't even work. If you have any questions about your cvma, don't plan on getting any answers. It's appalling.

I attended the committee meeting on the proposed bill to pass a declawing ban in Denver this morning (bill 17-0709) and the president and president elect of CVMA (Dr. William French and Dr. Joy Fuhrman, respectively) spoke out in strong opposition to this bill, stating that the choice to declaw should be between the owner and the veterinarian. This bill is specifically worded to prevent unnecessary elective declawing and still allows for medically necessary procedures, and the vast majority of vets who perform declawing do NOT properly inform clients of what the procedure entails or the long-term physical and behavioral ramifications of declawing. Declawing is very lucrative for the vets who still perform it, so of course it's not in their best interest to discourage people from having it done. I am shocked that the CVMA would oppose legislation that is intended to prevent this cruel procedure and I have to wonder whether they truly have animals' best interests in mind.
