The idea of establishing this military high school - unique in its own way in our country at that time - was Nicolae Filipescu (1862-1916).
During his time as Minister of War (December 29, 1910 / January 11, 1911 - March 28, 1912 / April 10, 1912) in the government of P.P. Carp, Nicolae Filipescu instructed Colonel Lupescu, the director of the military schools attached to the Ministry of War, to study in the major industrialized countries (Germany, France, Great Britain) where there was a modern military high school, their organization, the results educational, physical and moral nature of these institutions.
Together with the head of the military schools, Nicolae Filipescu rode the country in search of a locality close to the requirements of the active school model, which gave equal development to moral, physical and intellectual education, outdoors outside the crowds.
Through report no. 418 of 1 June 1912 of the Minister of War to the Head of State was required the establishment of the Military High School of Dealu Monastery.
The foundation stone of this high school was on Monday, June 4, 1912, in the presence of the central and local authorities of the time.
For the proper functioning of this school, through High Decree no. 3056 of 9 June 1912 approved the Military Lyceum Regulation at Dealu Monastery.

According to the report of the Ministry of War to the High Regency, a tribute to the founder of the school was decided by the High Decree no. 163 of January 29, 1929, to change his name to the Military High School "Nicolae Filipescu" from Dealu Monastery.
From October 25, 1930, according to the tradition established by his forefathers, King Carol II enrolled Mihai, his son and Voivode of Alba-Iulia, in high school. Due to the new situation, according to the High Decree no. 3322 of 2 October 1930 and published in the Official Gazette, Part I, no. 227 of October 9, 1930 the uniform of the pupils of the Guard Regiment was changed.
In the Official Gazette no. 50 of 1 March 1934 the Military High School "Nicolae Filipescu" from Dealu Monastery was published. The institution became the property of the head of state.
Based on the provisions of the Decrees - Laws no. 3052 of 5 September 1940 and no. 3072 of September 7, 1940, the Military High School "Nicolae Filipescu" from Dealu Monastery turned into "Nicolae Filipescu" National College from Dealu Monastery. After the earthquake in the night of 9 to 10 November 1940, the school's home suffered great damage.
According to Order 3530 of the State Under-Secretariat for the Army of the Nuclear Weapons of November 13, 1940 transmitted with the Order of Military High Schools Directions no. 10156 of December 13, 1940, the "Nicolae Filipescu" National College from Dealu Monastery moved to the Predeal garrison, in the "Brothers of the Cross", former Straja rii.
After August 23, 1944, the high school adapted to the new conditions, including changing the curriculum in accordance with the new requirements of the new regime.
The school functioned as a gym for a year, for accommodation. The uniforms of the students were made according to the model of the uniform of the Suvorov Military High School in UR.S .. As for the name of the high school, Dimitrie Cantemir's name was chosen from a long line of great personalities of HISTORY.
