Classroom Law Project: Empowering the Next Generation of Civic Leaders

In today's world, democracy is more important than ever. It is the foundation of our society and a crucial element in ensuring that everyone has a voice. However, democracy cannot be taken for granted. It must be taught and nurtured from an early age to ensure that future generations understand its importance and are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to participate fully in civic life.

This is where Classroom Law Project comes in. Founded in 1985, Classroom Law Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting civic education among Oregon's youth. Its mission is simple: to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become active participants in our democratic society.

At Classroom Law Project, we believe that the best way to preserve democracy is to teach democracy. We offer a wide range of civics education programs and resources designed to engage students at all levels – from elementary school through high school – and help them develop critical thinking skills, learn about their rights as citizens, and understand how government works.

Our programs include mock trials, constitutional law workshops, youth summits on civic engagement issues such as climate change or gun control laws; teacher training sessions on how best teach civics; online resources such as lesson plans or interactive games; student-led projects like voter registration drives or community service projects related with social justice issues.

One of our most popular programs is Mock Trial Competition which provides high school students an opportunity to experience what it’s like being part of a trial team by preparing arguments for both sides of a case based on real-life scenarios provided by us. This program helps students develop critical thinking skills while also learning about legal concepts such as evidence rules or courtroom procedures.

Another program we offer is Youth Summit which brings together middle- and high-schoolers from across Oregon for two days each year focused on discussing current events related with social justice issues like immigration policy, climate change, or gun control laws. Students participate in workshops led by experts in the field and engage in discussions with their peers to develop solutions to these complex issues.

We also offer teacher training sessions on how best teach civics, which are designed to help educators integrate civic education into their curriculum and provide them with the tools they need to engage students in meaningful discussions about democracy and citizenship.

In addition, we have a variety of online resources available on our website that teachers can use for free. These include lesson plans, interactive games, and other materials designed to make learning about civics fun and engaging for students of all ages.

At Classroom Law Project, we believe that every student has the potential to become an engaged citizen who contributes positively to society. By providing high-quality civics education programs and resources, we are helping Oregon's youth develop the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become active participants in our democratic society.
