Chief's Luau (Hawaii Sunset Events, LLC) Review

AMAZING! From the minute the bus journey started we had the best time! Cousin Vi was awesome and made the fairly long bus ride so enjoyable! What a personality! The whole Luau was everything we could've hoped for...delicious food, wonderful music and dancing and such a great atmosphere! As amazing as everyone was, the Chief does need a special mention. What a host! Warm, charismatic and so bloody funny! And not only that, but by sharing some of his own stories he made the whole experience so much more personal. All in all a truly wonderful experience and it made our short time on Oahu one to remember!

Excellent show. The performance was perfect. Loved it.

It down poured. When they say on their website that cover will be provided, they mean ponchos. Unfortunately our food and drinks weren't covered. They cut the show short by an hour because of the rain too. Please check the weather before you book! I was disappointed.

Cousin Bo was awesome, he took the time to talk to us on the ride back to our hotel and ask how the experience was. My family felt like we should have invited him to our home for the holidays.

AMAZING!! Very funny show with lots of native food and amazing dancers and fire knives!! I'd recommend this to anyone!!! Activities before the luau starts and stalls to buy hand crafted gifts by local Hawaiians!!

Very enjoyable experience. The show was fantastic as well as the food. The Chief did a great job not only entertaining but also educating the family about the Hawaiian culture. Mahalo for the great experience!

The food is okay not great. The chief is very funny man, the night I went very windy bring a coat with you might be cold.

This was voted #1 Luau on TripAdvisor. I wonder what the scoring is based on.
I went to the Paradise Cove Luau a few years ago, and it had a lot more activities and was much more spacious than this one; not to mention that it was on the beach.
The only 3 activities on this one were making palm tree headbands, tattoo painting and building a fire from wood.
All black tattoos were rushed and unevenly sprayed by a guy who didn't seem to enjoy his work.
The show was good; pretty much the same as any other Luau: presentation of dances from most of the Polynesian islands.
As for the food, I know you can't expect much from these types of venues; yet, I remained hopeful. Let's just say it was edible. The Mai Tais were awful.
The only 2 things that stood out were our tour guide and the MC. Cousin Mafi was funny, charming, informative. The MC was very entertaining and funny.

Chief's Luau was by far the most impactful and genuine experience I have had on the island. I am a man of culture, but not just culture, the purity of culture. Not only did these fine people exemplify their culture, but they also made it important to me, an outsider, and they made us all feel like family. I was genuinely impressed by the presentation they prepared, not because it was flashy or mind blowing, but because it was simple, and again, genuine. They are not out there to impress, they are out there to express their love for their culture and their families. I left wishing I could be a part of this group and integrate myself into their ways of living. I am sad I had to leave, and even though I had minimal contact with the few people hosting us (due to large numbers) I felt connected to these people and I could feel their passion for their ways of life and the love they share with it. I'm grateful for the experience to have been a part of this, and I will be returning next trip to Hawaii. Great job Chief! Great job everyone! Mahalo and aloha!

First time in Hawaii, first Luau but this out is outstanding, food is great! Great non stop entertainment and awesome celebration for newlyweds, anniversaries!!! Will be doing this again! Highly recommended

Obviously the best luau in Honolulu for sure,the fire knife dance is a amazing. Compare to polynesian culture center. The people always have sense of humor which make it enjoyable. And the girls can really dance, so does the boys.

Our cultural guide was Amazing!
Our pick up was at the Ilikai hotel, they were warm, welcoming, funny, and extremely knowledgeable.
The Chief was very entertaining and funny, the hula dancers were on point and the men were amazing with the fire and knives. They compete and are champions.
The food was very tasty, Arts and crafts, all what you would expect in a Luau and more!

We wanted to do luau when we visited Oahu. I thought the luau would be cheesy, but it was so not!! When you come into the luau you are welcomed with a lei, you walk down by the turtles and then into a grassy area that overlooks the ocean and this is where the luau takes place. We were very fortunate as we had a full moon on the night of the luau so the evening was breathtaking. There were eight people in our party including my in-laws and we all had such a great time! The food and drinks were so good and the entertainment was even better. The hula and fire dancers were amazing and my daughters got to go up and dance on stage with them. The Chief is hilarious and we laughed all evening. I would say this is the best luau on the island, hands down!

BEST LUAU IN THE ISLAND. People always say luau in the beach is always better. ITS NIGHT TIME, YOU CANT SEE IT ANYWAY. Chief's show is spectacular. way better than the others.

This was a great experience. The staff was like family, the dancers were great and represented the different nations well. And to cap it off the fire dancers were actual world champions!!! Check it out, go for royal, you won't be disappointed

I read for an hour trying to decide the best luau. I was hesitant on this one due to it s located at a water park, I was glad I made the choice. You don t even realize you are in a water park as they environment is completely immersive. The chief makes the show. My kids were blown away with the fire dancers. The staff goes over and beyond to insure you are happy and satisfied. Great show, you won t be disappointed. We had friends who made another choice who regretted not going to this one.

My first time at a luau. It was a lot of fun. It was so hard to enjoy the food so many flies around.

My family and group enjoyed the Chief's Luau! The Chief was really funny and the sound and tone of his slow, dry, calm voice added to the fun of what he was saying. It was a blessing that the Chief prayed before the meal and gathered his performers AFTER the show to pray and thank God for their safely bringing humor and entertainment to their guests. Everything in Hawaii is expensive but I left here still feeling like I'd received a few nice giveaways...

Never been to a Luau before and really enjoyed my experience, you really get to experience the culture. They even got my grandparents up on stage to celebrate over 50 years of marriage so were very inclusive and wanted to celebrate everyone!

Me and my family strongly recommend Chief s Luau. As so many people have said, Chief puts on a great show and the food is excellent. Chief is a very passionate, talented and funny host... he s everything you would like in a best friend. We ve been to other Luaus, but Chief s is the best!

I was worried about it being authentic since it was at a waterpark but it was fantastic!! An unique experience from true Samoans and natives. The chief was funny and it was super entertaining! Definitely recommend!

With the exception of splash town waterpark on one side and seven satellite dishes on the other side of the luau stage, everything else was excellent. My family and I really enjoyed the food and the mai tais and lava flows were super. Show was amazing

Worth every dime. I enjoyed all three hours. Cast and crew members were all friendly and helpful. Show was entertaining and informative. Will do this again when I visit Hawaii.

Very fun show, it was funny, touching, heartwarming and gave you a good taste of culture on different islands. I would highly recommend going here! The fire dancing was amazing, I was in the front two rows and felt the heat from it!

Awesome time at this luau!! Super kid friendly, but also very entertaining for adults too. We laughed a lot! Great entertainment all around. Food was excellent. Highly highly recommend!!

Food was good. Went back for seconds. Not a regular thing for me. The show was very good. Wait staff very attentive. The art on display was nice, better priced. Chief, was a good M.C. funny and a talented voice for singing and playing the guitar. Not to mention dancing. The entertainment cast showed great skill and talented dance and singing. Worth the cost. Will return on next visit to the island.

My wife wanted to go to this but I didn't...glad she did. It was lots of fun. Show was a 5 out of 5 but the food is a 2 maybe a 3. Great ambience and fun overall evening event.

Absolutely a wonderful Luau, the staff, the food, the dancers my children and all our family enjoyed the fire dancers and the women dancers gorgeous show!!!!!

We got the Royal package which was nearly $200/ apiece. We weren t in the front, we STILL had to pay for all NON ALCOHOLIC drinks, even with our free drink coupons , had to ask for complimentary souvenir (coconut shell cup) which was $10 more, food was excellent if you don t mind eating giant horse flies with your meal. Staff was good. Location was super generic, inside a water park with the waterslides in view. If your a sober traveler, this would not fly! We left early and Inwas disappointed as this was our 1 year anniversary and our first Luau.

Went to the one at the Polynesian Center...so went into this with no expectations. The MC was very charming and funny. The dancers and the fire show was great. Food was good too and came home with a headband, flowers and tattoo. Very enjoyable and definitely better than the cultural center!!

Chief s Luau was a fun experience with great activities before the actual luau and a fantastic show. The ride there took about 45 minutes from Waikiki and the shuttle provided had some entertainment as well in the form of trivia and an MC.

After looking at several reviews we decided Chief s was best and have to agree, the fire dancers at the end was fantastic compared to other luau s I ve been to. Yes the luau is st a water park and you can see the slides in the background, but overall it is a great experience.

Good food, good show, bad service. We had the highest prices option (royal package) and we were delivered by our chief luau staff member literally 10 minutes before dinner was served (bus number 4 on may 27). We missed out on all the possibly fun activities before dinner. The staff had little concern for our late delivery (delivery by an employ on an employ run bus). Given a second chance I chose some place else.
