THIS place is amazing! The food was so good and the prices are super affordable. We fed our family . We also appreciated the vegan/vegetarian menu. All of us ate every bite. The food was full of flavor and tasted fresh. The staff was very friendly when we picked up our food.
The new space is beautiful while preserving the charm if the previous. The food is exquisite everytime we visit. David is a consummate chef and host. Plan to spend a few hours and definitely order all four courses. This is an "Iowa City Area" experience not to be missed.

I processed my thoughts for several hours after spending a few hundred dollars (2 people) at this restaurant based on the reviews that have been submitted. I do not understand the 5 star reviews. With that being said, the food Tasted fabulous.... every course, we did the 5-course meal ($105/ea..additional 35 of you get the filet w frau graois) and everything was delicious. However, it was not worth the price $$$. We generally enjoy spending money on food and wine and enjoy both immensely. we do not think that the value was worth the price here. I think that the plating itself Severely lacked color and appeal.. more creative work on the plates would have made the price tag a little bit more palatable. $75+ bottles of wine should absolutely be served with a decanter. Creme Brulee should be served warm. Reviews really built us up for this place but we left feeling disappointed at how much we spent vs what we experienced. Again, food tasted great but was not worth the $$$$ with severely lacked color/artistic plating appeal.
Wonderful food and intimate atmosphere. Chef David has created a very unique and enjoyable dining experience.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience. The food and service were phenomenal. The owner could not have been nicer. The inside of restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and seating was intimate. I could not recommend this restaurant more.
Great atmosphere. The chef runs the entire show and came out and had a great conversation with us about the menu while we were making our choices. A truly unique experience in Iowa City area. The food was simple, yet excellently executed. Went to celebrate a special occasion with my wife. We both hope to back soon.
This place is our to go spot for date night. I cannot praise their menu enough, their pastas are phenomenal, their deserts are decadent and they can win you even more with their brunch options.
I really enjoy eating here the food is always good and the bartenders are so nice. I like this place much better than their sister restaurant Firestone. The cook at Purple Onion is much better, what I have had has always been good and very fresh.
They took all the necessary precautions with safety and health regarding Covid-19. The staff was so polite and knowledgeable, and there were still so many specials to choose from! I went for a girls night, and we tried so many dishes! You must try the skillet pimento cheese! So good. I got the pork porterhouse chop for my main, mmm mmm mmm was it fantastic! We had dessert too, and it definitely isn't complete without a shot of espresso!
