Chazzano Cafe at the J Review

I used to live closer to their location and realized back then that they offer the best coffee, by far, in Metro Detroit. They blow Starburnts out of the water, and I am a fan of that chain as well. This coffee is so good that when I am in (was prepandemic) in restaurants, I could always tell if the place served Chazzano coffee. It truly is that much of a difference. I do not like the owner's stances/political views, and he can be fickle to deal with but to each their own. This is a review about the coffee and not his personality. The owner does 100% know how to roast a great product.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time here and will come back. A vacuum syphon coffee brew is something everyone should try at least once!

Incredibly knowledgable and friendly staff. Time is always taken to educate and expose customers to the many ways to enjoy the experience of pure coffee. Every time we have an out of town guest, they become a new customer across the miles!

Amazing coffee. Katrina was a wealth of knowledge and very friendly. She showed me around their roasting room and explained their philosophy and proccess for roasting in house.

A hidden gem. Freshest coffee available. I really like the Peppermint Cocao with Coconut milk.

Excellent roasts and brewing options. Please add a few more decaf choices for those of us who love coffee but can't have caffeine. Thanks.

Coffee smells great, people were friendly and helpful. I was my first time and they walked me through their options over the phone and I selected one that should be great. If the coffee is terrible somehow, I will update my review but I don't that will happen.

Good coffee, very strange layout. It can get very busy and there s no line, just a lot of crowding around the bar causing a lot of confusion.

Small independent roaster. The staff are friendly and attentive. I usually come here with my husband (the cortado drinker) and our infant daughter. (They have a changing table in the restroom! ) I like to get a latte and its always good.

I think they probably have the best espresso in detroit hands down. This is a coffe joint for people who enjoy the strong and bold brews in comparison to the watered down tea like coffee.

I do agree with the guy who said the ordering process can be a little clumsy, especially when its busy in their. Paying right after putting in my order would be ideal to me..rather than ordering, waiting, then approaching the register again to pay.

My favourite place for a coffee. They import and roast their own beans. Starbucks fans this isn't about adding artificial flavors and lots of sugar, instead you order by the flavor profile of different coffee beans and choice choose from a selection of brewing styles.
Vegan friendly with almond, soy, and coconut milk. This is what coffee is suppposed to be like.

Love the coffee. I take advantage of the free local delivery to my office about every 10 days. Always delivered same day, sometimes within an hour!

My first experience at Chazzano was amazing! They have such a warm, inviting atmosphere. I was greeted with some samples of new roasts while I made my decision on what I wanted brewed. I will be going back VERY soon.

Excellent coffee that can be purchased in bulk from a great selection. They are also one of the few places in the area you can get coffee prepared with a siphon coffee maker.

Chazzano has the best coffee in the metro Detroit area, hands down! I love that they do a discount for bringing your own cup as well. I always get my coffee here and love all the different types of coffee they roast. This place is always on the top of my list for coffee places.

Awesome place. As a coffee snob I had been searching for a place like this since I moved to Michigan 4 years ago. They have a to-die-for Sumatra, do all their roasting in house, have mail order and delivery service, and an extensive coffee bar with knowledgeable staff! Expect to wait a little longer than at your local mermaid coffee shop, even if you are just picking up beans, because the small size place can easily get overwhelmed with a crowd. They have a great little lounge/bar, and you get a discount if you bring your bags back to be refilled.

It's amazing to be able to stop in and buy beans that were roasted that very same day. I got a pound of Ethiopia Yirgacheffe which was delicious.

Never loved an establishment more. I come here every Sunday and it feels like home. The atmosphere is excellent, the coffee is exceptional, and the staff are not only polite, but helpful... I've actually learned a lot about coffee just by coming here! I highly recommend this place, and would call it the best coffee shop around without hesitation.

Hands down the best coffee in the area. Whether you are into espresso, french press, aeropress, vacuum pot...Chazzano's has it all. Their roasting is so good that these days my breakfast restaurant choices have been driven entirely by whether or not they serve Chazzano's. Yes, it's that good.

I've been coming here for about 2 years or so. The staff are always very knowledgeable about their coffee, and I've never received a poorly made drink. I buy my whole beans here almost exclusively. I cannot recommend Chazzano enough.

Frank and the team are #1. This coffee breaks the bean barrier! I am amazed with the difference in their beans versus other well-known bean suppliers around the United States. Great place filled with mostly locals and collage students but it's a great place to go if your planing on visting Detroit I had a awesome time here. The owner is an amazing guy who's philosophy is that you shouldn't ruin coffee by adding milk and sugar to it (he hides it in the back of the store) coffee can be as exquisite and unique as wine if you treat it as such. Not at all like Starbucks which is the more color and sugar it has the better. You want a true coffee experience? Go to chazzano!

The best coffee I've ever had, anywhere. I always keep their whole beans in stock at home, well worth the price. And they are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable there.

I just heard the owner possibly fired several loyal employees of several years with no notice including possibly a pregnant employee. As a patron, I know these employees to be really wonderful. I am shocked, it used to be such a great place. So disappointed and devastated. Not my kind of place any longer.

I have been to Chazzano 3 times now and have never been disappointed. The coffee is great and the owner is absolutely lovely. He has a commitment to good fresh coffee. I found out today that they do not keep any coffee beans more then 3 weeks because they at this point will start to lose flavor. What he does with the coffee after this though is great! He donates it to local shelters and charitable organizations. As the cold season comes upon us I have to say this is greatly appreciated. I appreciate everything this shop does from making quality coffee to the donations from a philanthropic stand point. So if you want a fresh cup of coffee that is great with out anything added stop by Chazzano's!

Excellent service, great selection of coffee, establishment does not serve or allow food. I have made the rounds to the few roasters in the metro area, this place is by far the best. There is not the traditional pretentious feel that comes from upscale coffee shops. Sitting at the coffee bar talking with my barista about flavors and brewing methods was actually enjoyable.

The best part: unlike other places, the people that work here actually love coffee and enjoy talking about it with you. I went through a french press and a few espresso shots based off my barista's favorites before leaving with a half pound of beans and a strong desire to return.

I can say that this is a place that is not pure about there methods about brewing coffee. That however doesn't really hurt my feelings towards them, because it makes the whole situation less intimidating. Also, I was assured that all beans are rotated on a two-three week basis, therefore everything is in its peak freshness. Off peak beans are donated.

I strongly recommend giving this place a try, you won't be disappointed.
