Rented property from 21st Century, actually they bought my lease from the original owner. They showed up unannounced and took inventory of sorts of the unit in Abbey Ridge of McHenry, apparently they owned several units at that point. All was great until the end when I moved. I felt very poorly treated, and taken advantage of at that point and blindsided because I was expected to pay at least 6 months arrears in association fees at last minute that were not a part of my existing rental contract. Apparently the Abbey Ridge Master Association fee increased in the middle of my rental timeframe, nobody notified me in regards to such, and they definitely made me feel pressured to pay for it by 21st Century. In the end, they refused to return my security deposit because of carpeting that was not new when I moved in and was over 10+ years old. Blamed my pets even though I had paid hundreds separately upfront for a pet deposit and refused new carpeting when they offered it for free. Gave me 2 weeks to move out if I was not willing to resign the new lease with these added conditions: grand total to renew was between a hefty increase in rent + arrears of association fees, which added up to thousands, $4K+ to renew a lease for a townhouse. Nope, I walked away since I had better options already to chose from. However, never again, I bought my own property instead and pay considerably less for 3,000 square ft, lake rights, home today and I m just getting started. It was a petty business practice, so keep the security deposits, I m much happier now minus the headache of 21st Century in McHenry and used a different real estate agency and brokers to purchasing property now. I stayed silent on this for a few years now, I m not silent anymore.
