Steer clear, unless you want to do more work than your relator. With that being said, I would not recommend John O'Hara with Century 21. Selling a house with him was a dreadful experience. For starters, the work was sloppy; I had to correct numerous things in form documents that are made to be easy to fill out. Although, he has been a relator for a while, he did not seem familiar with the process. For instance, he drafted an amendment to a counter offer and included details that should not have been in there, which subsequently led to the Alaska Housing Department to get involved. That should have been something a seasoned relator knows. He also kept changing his opinion on what needed to be done to the house. He went from doing nothing in the beginning to painting, roof replacement, driveway replaced, etc. He knew we were moving out of state and we had a discussion with him before we moved. We then moved, and he told us he was surprised how empty the house looked. Ummmm . Yeah, we moved. Also, we practically had to beg him to do an open house. During closing, every time we talked to him we learned something new. I eventually went ahead and spoke to the buyer s lender to figure out what actually needed to be done to close. We also were a bit surprised that we were billed for an unnecessary repair that did not even need to be repaired. You probably guessed it, the repairman happened to be his friend.
I could really go on and on with stories from this experience. The whole process was a nightmare and we were so happy when it finally sold and we didn t have to deal with him again.
