Central London Forward: A Strategic Partnership of Twelve Local Authorities
Central London Forward is a strategic partnership of twelve local authorities in the heart of the capital. The partnership was formed to address the challenges and opportunities facing central London, and to work together to create a more prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive future for all who live, work, study or visit here.
The twelve local authorities that make up Central London Forward are Camden, City of London Corporation, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Kensington & Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark,Tower Hamlets,Wandsworth and Westminster. Together they represent over 2 million residents and over 1 million jobs.
Central London Forward's vision is for central London to be a world-class city that is open for business; where people can thrive in good quality homes; where everyone has access to high-quality public services; where there are opportunities for all; and where the environment is protected for future generations.
To achieve this vision Central London Forward has identified four key priorities:
1. Economic growth: To support economic growth by promoting investment in infrastructure and innovation; supporting businesses to start-up or grow; attracting new businesses into the area; creating jobs that pay well with good working conditions.
2. Housing: To ensure everyone has access to good quality housing that meets their needs at an affordable price. This includes building new homes across all tenures (social rent/affordable rent/shared ownership/market sale), improving existing homes through retrofitting programmes such as energy efficiency measures or adaptations for disabled people.
3. Skills & Employment: To ensure everyone has access to high-quality education/training opportunities so they can develop their skills/qualifications needed by employers in central london . This includes working with schools/colleges/universities/businesses/voluntary sector organisations etc., providing apprenticeships/traineeships/work experience placements etc., supporting people into employment/self-employment.
4. Environment: To protect and enhance the environment for future generations by reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, promoting sustainable transport modes (walking/cycling/public transport), protecting green spaces/biodiversity etc.
Central London Forward is committed to working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders including businesses, residents, community groups, voluntary sector organisations and other public sector bodies to achieve its vision. The partnership is also committed to being transparent and accountable in its decision-making processes.
