I ordered two cakes that were both shipped directly from the company the cakes arrived damaged and two days late I ve emailed the company a couple times using the email address listed on their website and they have chosen to completely ignore me
I received a 7 layer chocolate cake as a gift and it was way too sweet and dry. he frosting was also hard, as if it was frozen. Reduce the sugar and add more chocolate.
I ordered this cake for my own birthday after some raving reviews. I followed all the directions very carefully and was very anxious to try it on Thanksgiving Day. This cake was such a disappointment! It was totally disgusting, dried out and sugary caramel icing. I will not eat another bite and will probably end up throwing it in the garbage. This cake could not hold a candle to any other cake that I make myself and to think that I paid $75 w/shipping cost to find that out
I have ordered 3 cakes for birthdays and they have all exceeded my expectations. The lemon was light and not overly sweet, the caramel is the best if you LOVE caramel icing like I do, and the yellow with chocolate icing is the perfect chocolate. If you decide to add jars of caramel to your signature list, I will be the first to purchase.

I had ordered a caramel cake through the GMA Steals and Deals promotions. There was an option to have a cake sent out on a specific date which was perfect since I was ordering for a very special birthday and all the bakeries in my area were closed due to the pandemic. Much earlier than expected, I received an email that the cake was on its way. I immediately contacted the company and they were great - they recalled the initial shipment and sent out another cake which arrived on the date expected. The presentation and packaging is wonderful and makes for an impressive gift. The cake itself is quite rich and sweet, we cut sixteen slices from the cake which was the perfect size and was enjoyed by all.
I have tried these cakes twice. Didn't like either time. I am from a family with a long baking history of true homemade, delicious cakes. Nothing has compared to any from my great grandmother, great aunt's to my sister's cakes. $60-70 is unreal for poor quality.
I received mine in the mail as a corporate gift. The packaging said I can freeze and refreeze the cake for six months. Mine tasted like it was more than six months old already. It was very dry and when I sliced it, it fell apart. What a disappointment! Perhaps these cakes are better when sold fresh at the store?
I received a Pink Champagne cake as a gift because my friend was told the flavors she chose were not available. I have heard great things about these cakes and was really excited to try one but this cake was NOT GOOD. The icing was oily and waxy with no flavor. The cake was no better - with a strange, sponge-like texture. This cake was a total disappointment. I shared some with a neighbor who loves all sweets and she agreed it was not good.
So... the sweet owner, Laura, was kind enough to contact me about my review and asked me to call her so I did. She talked with me about 15 minutes, asking questions about my experience with the cake, listening to my opinions. Laura said she would take the information I provided to the kitchen staff and go from there. She then shipped us another cake - this time the 7-layer chocolate cake. It was DELICIOUS and what I expected considering the reputation of this business. I HIGHLY recommend this cake. It has a tender, moist crumb, and the icing is creamy with a delightfully rich chocolate taste with just the right amount of sweetness.
I really appreciate Laura and her efforts to make our experience with Caroline's Cakes a great one.

I ordered the 7 layer coconut cloud cake for my friend's birthday. It was shipped to Florida and arrived on time. My friend said the cake was good but that the icing tasted like cream cheese with coconut. She said she just did not expect cream cheese to be on a coconut cake. Carrot or red velvet yes . . . But coconut and cream cheese?
I have been a fan of this company for years. I was disappointed with the Christmas Carmel cake. The buttercream icing and red and green discs turned a formerly elegant Carmel cake into a fiasco of taste and beauty. Why mess with a perfect product
I am so happy to change my previous review for Carolines Cakes. They were absolutely amazing with giving me a new cake of my choice since we weren't happy with the Mothers Day cake special I had ordered. I ordered the Carrot Cake and it was amazing! We loved it!!!! It was delivered so very quickly and was absolutely delicious! I felt so bad that the first cake wasn't for us but the Carrot Cake more than made up for it. Wow!! After one bite of the Carrot Caramel Cake, I was hooked! The cake was so moist and the cream cheese frosting was to die for. The cake was shipped quickly and packaged perfectly! Everyone commented on how delicious it was and the chunks of pineapple were a bonus. You can tell that this cake was made with high quality premium ingredients.I look forward to trying other flavors. You have a customer for life!

These cakes are absolutely incredible!!! They are a holiday staple in our house and I love to get them for family birthdays and to send them to friends. I also love them for entertaining, for a simple dinner party of for a large party where I get a couple. They are very rich so they go a long way. All of the flavors are delicious. I often decorate them myself, especially at Christmas time when I buy beautiful Christmas cookies and stick them on the side with a tube of store bought frosting.
A birthday, holiday, or any occasion that you share with loved ones should include one of Caroline's cakes. Their customer service is superb and their cakes are simply divine.

When I unwrapped this cake.. I was worried. It had that fake caramel syrup smell. I am an avid baker but I LOVE to eat everyone else's cakes too!! Well... I just ate a little slice after it sat out for a few hours and underwhelmed is an understatement. The frosting was gritty, WAYYY too sweet & had exactly what I worried about. That fake, coffee syrup kind of flavor... I guess the cake portion was ok but the frosting just overpowered everything.. Caramel is supposed to have a buttery richness that is completely missing in this cake. The layers were very pretty though...
I ordered and received the caramel cake beautifully packaged in a pretty red tin can with care instructions. We planned to celebrate mothers day eating this cake. We all took a few bites and could not believe how sugary and sweet this cake was AND ....I have a sweet tooth. In fact it was so so sugary and sweet we.could not eat one more bite. The frosting was gritty like sand instead of buttery smooth. So much sugar it would send a diabetic into a coma. Sadly, we had to throw 3/4's of the cake in the trash. This cake was not cheap to buy either. The cake was dry also. I was hoping for a more fluffier cake.
I heard the other flavored cakes were delicious and not as sugary sweet as the caramel.
Good product especially for mail order. I do not give 5 stars because of the website...Beware it is not the most efficient and you get to pay the high prices if there is an error.
This cake was disgusting. I ordered the caramel layered cake that was supposedly "Oprahs" favorite. All six people that tried thought it was horrible! It wasn't moist and tasted like pure granulated sugar. It had no flavor. We all couldn't eat and tossed it out. Don't waste your money on this. Totally disappointed. Will have to toss the whole cake.

The best gluten free cake you can find anywhere is the 7-layer GF Caroline Caramel Cake. Of course, you could put that caramel icing on cardboard and it would be delicious!
I have ordered and received cakes for years from this company, but will never order again!! The website would not take my discount so I called. I was ordering 2 different cakes and Kelsie took the first order and gave me the discount. I finally got my second order ready to place on line and there was no where to put my other code. I called and Kelsie said they would refund my discount if I filled out a box online which was no where to be found. The shipping was out of sight so I just will get another gift. Great cakes but horrible customer service and website!!!!
I can not say how quick a response I got from Laura at Caroline s Cakes. She realized how frustrated I was trying to do a simple order. She has taken care of me and I am sure my gift will be enjoyed! They want people to be happy and they understand now that the website was not working for me and they assured me that if anyone has any problems to contact them directly!! I was so excited to find out I lived so close to one of Oprah's favorite things bakeries. I made a special trip out to Spartanburg to pick up a slice of cake. Just for information, you can't actually go in the bakery, there's a sign on the door sending you to an old timey store. There were only 2 flavor options in the slice form (disappointing), red velvet and caramel cake. Each slice was $5. I gotta say the first thing that took me is how small the slices are. They look like they would be tall and wide based on photos, but they are actually very small, maybe less than 4 inches tall, 4 inches deep, and 2 inches wide. The taste was not worth the drive. The caramel cake was gritty (the frosting) and dry (the cake). The red velvet cake was just odd, it just tasted wrong. The cream cheese frosting was basically just cream cheese and there was something about the cake flavor that was off. I'm glad I went and tried it, but don't feel like you have to.
I really hope people read the reviews on the Carmel cake . It doesn't taste like carmel. I had several people try it and all said it tasted like pancakes. I thought it tasted like a praline, way too sweet. I contacted customer service because something just didn't seem right with the cake. They offered nothing, not a discount, replacement for refund. Very disappointed. I will say the champagne cake bites were really good.

I have called the bakery at their request in their reply to my review and they have not taken my calls, have said they re busy or not there and NO ONE has called me back or responded to my emails!! Don t waste your money or time on this bakery because they don t stand by their products or their word.
The $60 blueberry lime cake that I ordered two weeks prior to my special event never showed up! After calling the bakery three days before my event to ask if and when it had shipped, I had to deal with a rude and standoffish lady who told me to call gold belly and that she couldn t help me. They did not give me any options or any information and we had to make other emergency arrangements for our event.
I don t know how it tastes if you live in the area however, I got it not getting it shipped thru Goldbelly. Seven layers chocolate cake is what I ordered. It shipped and the cake was dry, hard icing and for seven layers not a whole lot of cake. I would have rather made a cake from a box or bought from a grocery store and it would have tasted better.
The icing tasted like crisco and the cake was dry and tasteless. This was very disappointing because it was a birthday surprise that the birthday girl could not eat. Oprah missed the mark on this one. And Caroline s policy is no refunds or returns. For the price, I expected a fresh softer cake with a less artificial icing flavor.

Here s the problems:
Cake or Pancakes = cardboard...very dense ...no sponge
Frosting = unmelted sugar grainy didn t stick to hard cake
Cost =$$. Not worth it.
Caramel Delight Cake and the Coconut Cloud are fantastic! Received as gifts. We keep it wrapped in the freezer in the tin that it came in, and take it out occasionally and slice off a piece or two and let thaw for 30 minutes. Super moist and yummy!
i ordered the Brunswick Stew and was terrible. I guess i'm to blame for ordering stew from a cake place. Rest assured I will NOT be ordering again.
I ordered two cakes. First let me say the packaging is both substantial, but also very, very attractive, so great if ordering as a gift. I got the Coconut for my husband & me. I had the Caramel sent to our daughter s family. They decided to save it for a special occasion. We tried the coconut right away! The coconut DID NOT disappoint. It was delicious! Had it again a few weeks later with our grandchildren & yesterday brought it out for Mother s Day. Our daughter brought the Carmel cake over so we d have a choice. The caramel cake looked lovely. I am writing to say that four of the six of us had caramel cake and we couldn t finish modest slices. We have dessert & sugar lovers...but this cake was so, so so, sweet & sugary that no one could eat it. The layers were fine, it was the icing in the top that put it in the category of, I just can t. The frosting on the top seemed granulated. I m not sure if that s normal or not. Just beware if you re thinking of ordering the Caramel cake. We were disappointed.
Tried a slice of the red velvet cake...let's just say it wasn't what I expected it to taste like. Not moist enough, a little too hard...I think I was happier just eating Wal-Mart brand red velvet cake. I'd try another slice of Caroline's, but I won't expect much.
We have ordered from Caroline s Cakes numerous times. I have seen the cake bites on the site, but have never tried them. We were given some today and they are out of this world delicious! They are the chocolate, salt caramel. Oh my goodness, they are Devine. So special and just the right size.
What a treat that I may have to gift to myself again and again!

Yesterday I received my caramel cake and couldn't wait to try it. I've first seen it featured on the news months ago and seen so many good reviews on the website. Now I'm a big fan of sweets but this cake is painfully sweet. It's even too sweet for my 10 year old. Before this I've never had or even heard of a caramel cake so maybe that's how it's supposed to taste, but I can't get over how gritty the icing is. It's like I'm chewing on sugar. Sorry, but it's not worth the money to me.
We saw the Today show review where they loved the 7 layer caramel cake so we ordered it and unfortunately it was so bad we threw most of it away. The icing was like the brown sugar was never melted or it was not cooked, it was grainy and all it tasted like was sugar. We wanted to love it but unfortunately it was not good. We do not recommend.
Given the 7 layer lemon cake as a gift. Not impressed at all. Frosting was not sweet and lemon flavor was not prominent enough. This is not "the best lemon cake ever". Save your money and bake your own.
