I saw so many people taking selfies in front of this spot so I figured I check it out. Not sure what the fuss is. Average pastries. High prices. Drab atmosphere. Woefully subpar service (girl taking my order was shouting a conversation with someone 30 feet into the kitchen while taking my order as if she were too good to take my order, having me repeat my simple order over again, and it took 10 minutes to order a pastry, a cookie and a coffee though no one else was in line to order). Their chocolate chip cookies taste like soft baked Chips Ahoy!
Tourist trap.
Made me feel like a chump to be there.

Old style nostalgic street. Really fun to walk in and see where the show was filmed. Customer service was stellar. And WOW. Truly the best cannoli, the best cup cakes and the best lobster tails ever. Real quality. Great job. Only problem....no Buddy!!

It was my first time in Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey, although I have known about this place for more than twenty years. Since the feast of Saint Joseph is around this time, zeppoles are back in season. Right now, Carlo's offers two varieties: custard cream and cannoli cream. I opted for the zeppole with custard cream. I have always lived rich, creamy desserts and this kind of zeppole is just that. The lady behind the counter was very polite and professional; I do not recall seeing a bathroom, but where I was going to had a bathroom, so I was not too concerned about looking for one at this bakery. I look forward to returning.

Finally got to try a cannoli from Carlos Bake Shop. What a cool experience that was. Carlos Bake shop is located in a great location. If you are looking to take a trip here there are many things to do around Hoboken. Enjoy a treat while you look over the river at the NYC skyline. Carlo s Bakery did very will with getting large crowds of people through the door. There may be a line but it goes by quick.

I ordered the strawberry rainbow cake for my daughters birthday. Gold belly delivered it. The cake is pretty. There isn t anything fancy about the icing but the layers of color has a beautiful effect.

As for the taste it s basic. It s way too sweet and doesn t really have any flavor. It just taste like sugar. In that regard it s like a store bought cake, but a little more moist when warmed.

Overall, it s not worth the price if the taste is what matters to you, but I don t regret the choice since the cake was pretty.

Original location of the reality TV show "Cake Boss". For those who follow the program it is inevitable to visit it if they go to New York. It is located in New Jersey a short time from downtown Manhattan.

I love it

Absolutely overrated. I will go into details to give a clear explanation. Let's start with the food: the two cupcakes were too sweet and not fresh at all. I have eaten better cupakes in plenty of places. The lobster tail was also not fresh, too humid, and the french cream tasted very artificial. Finally the Neapolitan: not bad, ok, but also very sweet, and hard to finish for this reason.
Then about the service: one of the worst I've ever experienced. It's confusing!! First you don't actually understand if u can seat or not as they take your order to stay (when we placed ours two out of three tables were empty: when we paid they were all taken even tho the people who were sitting hadn't placed their order yet). So no wonder that we had to wait a long time to eat whag we ordered. Also, they are not so helpful at the counter when u ask for info, and try to go to the next customer even if there is no line and no rush.
Finally, after they renovated the bakery, the new design is cold and not very welcoming.
I don't like this place and I'd never recommend to go there.

The cake shop was so cute. I loved the cakes and pasterys. They were well decorated so yummy. They put just the right amount of sweetness. I wanted to meet buddy from cake boss but ya know can't do everything.

Carlo's is in a great location and obviously has a brilliant marketing campaign. Unfortunately, all of the focus is on the marketing (and cute little boxes), and none of the focus is on the product. I don't mind standing in line for two hours for something amazing, but the sweets here aren't even good. I bought biscotti, cannoli, a mixed berry cheesecake and a chocolate mousse tart. The cheesecake was the only thing that was remotely decent. The biscotti and cannoli were especially stale. I suspect they don't actually bake the goods at this location. Carlo's is for ill-informed tourists. The Old German Bakery down the street is eminently better. Don't waste your time on this place!

Great baked goods, really great service. Stopped in early on a Sat, worried about crowds (since its a celebrity owned place), no line, no problem.

Also as a bonus, every time a door opened a said "oh, oh, there's Buddy" to annoy my kids... since its they were the ones that insisted we drive out of the way to stop there.

It's one of the staples of Hoboken - always packed, always filled with tourists taking pictures of the storefront, and overpriced for decent pastries.

The one thing that I do recommend because it's worth the hype - the lobster tails! My favorites are the Cookies and Cream and Salted Caramel. The Traditional and Chocolate Hazelnut flavor are okay too! They have the crispiness and creaminess of the lobster tails down pat so definitely get a box of those!

I went to this bakery because of the tv show....they have really gone corporate and made the shop look like too much of a brand instead of the family business it was portrayed to be.
Anyway I ordered lobster tail which was dry pastry and so crispy that it was hard to chew. The hazelnut filling was nothing to shout about it was ok.
I then when on to buy some pre-packed biscuits to take home, again these were just ok.
This was definitely not worth the trip, I waited in a que to get in. The biscuits are so over priced I was in shock and then I was asked to spend more money to receive a free mug...no way.
The only reason I have given it a 2 star is the friendly staff.
I will not visit again or even suggest to anyone that they should.

A little disappointing not to see Carlos but that was expected. Best thing was the chocolate covered strawberries. Tried a few different things being a tourist had to sample, I think I was expecting the food to be spectacular and was let down bc of it

It was not good. Which was disappointing, but more shocked than anything.
Two teenage boys & a 7 year old, 2 adults - none thought cupcakes were good. The cookie was awful (it's a sugar cookie covered in sprinkles - if a 7 yr old refuses to eat it - something is wrong. And he eats everything!) We had 3 different cupcakes, a pastry and cookies. None of it was good.

It s been awhile since we went there. Around the height of popularity of his show. We took a small group of middle school kids several parents etc. The line about an hour before closing on this day was extremely long. Then once inside you were jammed packed. I personally got 3 items. Cookies , a small cake. And a cannoli. None of them were above average in taste. Of the others in our group who purchased several different items less than half said theirs were tasty. Much after one bite were discarded. The one item I wanted to try was the Lobster Tail Cream Horns. Sold out. I didn t go in looking for anyone on the show. They seem nice enough on it but we also didn t see any of them. The only item that our group seemed pleased with were donuts. No we are not in law enforcement. Long line ,average flavor = 2 Sorry.

The food products looked nice but there was no prominant price tags and item names. So you are suppose to know the name yourself. We got a mousse and it had a Sharpe plastic inside. It really hurts to have sharp plastic in your mouth so for so much hype we did not expected this and hence low rating.
