Calamigos Guest Ranch Review

Ultra hidden resort, nice and quiet. Brunch was great.

Family friendly casual chic hotel, isolated in Malibu hills, with good service and nice team. Great if you like pool, games, and quiet nature. Not good if you want to take full advantage of the sea and Mailbu. Pros: fantastic included breakfast, a la carte and small buffet on weekdays, large buffet on weekends. Cool bathtub in the room (if you get one with a bathtub). Lobby with bar, fireplace and great atmosphere. Excellent service overall - they made up for the small occasional mistakes (and they upgraded us). Cons: except for breakfast, food doesn't live up to expectations and is pricey. Private Cottages have small windows and are dark. Wifi is weak, which is a real issue for there is no network in the hotel and on the hills around. No indoor seating in Malibu Cafe, and it gets cold at night. During off season you don't get the full service and amenities - steam room, sauna and 2 pools were closed; lots of construction work; team not fully trained made mistakes like forgetting everyday to replenish our towels and/or robes.

This Resort is absolutely beautiful staff was amazing you must get a massage ask for Erica Gordon she is awesome! their lounge is so beautiful, relaxing and clean

Best places ever, has free everything. They bring you wine and cookies without request. They have a hot chocolate buffet in the lobby.

The location was outstanding. The welcome warm. Our little bungalow felt like a real home from home and we were surprised by the many free gifts such as luxury toiletries, delicious snacks and soft drinks and the turn down house keepers left wine and chocolate. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff- but would like to give a special mention to the manager in the Great Room and the fabulous breskfasts served there as well as the housekeepers. Calamigos was the 9th hotel we had stayed at in 3 weeks and it was above and beyond the best.

I've stayed at this resort a few times with my girlfriend. I enjoy the rooms which are very nice and clean and the food on property is ok nothing special. The reason I'm leaving a one stare review is because I believe this hotel treats it's employees badly. Everytime I come there I see new employees never the same people and most of the employees look very unhappy and as if they are only smiling because they have too. I recently asked an employee why is there always new people there and never the same employees. He told me that a lot of them either get fired or they quit and that the hotel treats them very poorly. As an private business owner myself I'm all about fair employee treatment your employees are like family and without them you can't run your business. I don't believe I will return to this place for awhile. The sad vibe from the employees just turns me off unfortunately.

Above and beyond customer service throughout our stay. I loved the lavender ice to cool you down poolside, cold essential oil water spritz and cucumber lemon water.... such special touches that made it the best pool side experience. Thank you!

I dig it. Probably over-rated. Breakfast buffet and room service was fantastic. Quiet & very relaxing. Adult pool available to avoid lil brats Rooms had decent WiFi and great AC. Marble floors in the bathroom could have used floor heaters. Closet space didn't have a light. Bed was not so great, the springs were squeaky. Staff was very accommodating. Enter from Mulholland not Kanan Dume, it's easier to find. Nice little get away. I stay there again

I would like to give a public shout out to a couple of employees that made our stay amazing. Grant, working the poolside bar, was eager to engage about items on the menu and point us in the right direction on the best ones. Later in the day when my girlfriend spilled her drink, Grant was eager to get us a replacement without being asked and take a second to have a great conversation, human-to-human.

Manuel at the front desk in the lobby struck up a conversation while we were waiting for the bathroom. He was friendly, cordial and professional. After both of these interactions it was easy to see how much of an emphasis on customer service is placed at this resort. Highly recommend - thank you Grant and Manuel!

Love this place. Secluded, quiet very cozy. The staff is friendly and helpful!

Very nice location with a hint of romance however, their are several weddings at any given time so it can be a bit busy. Checking in experience in the late AM was terrible and the front desk employees were borderline rude and pompous for no reason since I doubt they would ever pay $500 plus a night to stay here. Valet was horrible in the late AM mostly because there was one young inexperienced kid working so I can't blame him. Valet got much better throughout the 2 days.

Bartenders were fantastic, great drinks and conversation. Food service slow and they are in no hurry to open at 11.

Rooms feel outdated, downturn service showed up by walking in our room at 8:45 pm, REALLY....Way to spoil the mood.

Hotel still has a unique quiet vibe...It's worth checking it out.

The property is absolutely beautiful, staff is not only friendly but everyone seems genuinely happy, rooms are awesome - lobby bar/fireplace area is really cool and the drinks abound - free drink cart for guests on the weekend was a very nice touch. Food at the lobby bar is spectacular - best wings I've had in my whole life. Roomservice and housekeeping has room for improvement, but the calamigos is definitely worth a visit - one of the best hotels I've had the pleasure of visiting. The place has panache.

This place was amazing. The scenery was spectacular. I wish I could have stayed longer and took it all in.

Fresh air and if you have sickness having a hard time to quit smoking this is the place for you to stay

This hotel is amazing. It is quiet, not too many guests, great staff and the rooms are beautiful. It s the perfect getaway from any busy life. The property is very green and the decor is beautiful. Oh and the hotel is beyond dog friendly.

1. The property is beautful. Peaceful and there is a lot of attention to detail when it comes to the property itself. The rooms are beautiful, luxurious and well appointed.

2. The staff is very friendly.

3. I had to move rooms twice. The first room the tub did not retain water. The stopper was broken. The second room, like the first, had an overwhelming smoke odor. All of my clothes still smell like smoke. I was too tired to change rooms and just went to bed. I changed rooms the following day. At first we thought it was because it was a fireplace room, but that wasn't the case. It seems to be isolated to the rooms in that area only. Other fireplace rooms had no smoke scent whatsoever. Even the lobby with the burning fire had no odor.

4. I found the valet staff and front desk staff very friendly but the service was low. Example: I asked for almond milk for the coffee in the lobby. The staff member was friendly but never returned. I tried again 2 hours later and it took over 20 minutes for them to return with the almond milk.

5. The property was virtually empty. I saw almost no guests. There was no staff at either pool area. However, I loved it. It was like my own private ranch. However, it's clear that staffing in some areas, not all, was at a minimum given the limited number of guests. I don't blame them. I was fine seeking out staff as needed. They also text you so you can communicate with them at any time.

6. The jets on one side of the hot tub were broken.

7. The manager was delightful and very grateful for the feedback. She comped half of my room because of the tub and the other half after the smoke issue. Even with the challanges I decided to stay an extra night.

8. The food was wonderful. The room service was delivered without a tray to eat it on. Just the plates of food. So if you're going to eat in bed or on the couch it needs to be placed on your lap.

9. The valets were very helpful and kind.

10. I would return because the property is stunning, peaceful and the staff was kind and very helpful. There were some challanges but they corrected them. They just need to pay more attention to a few important details i.e. the smokey rooms and service i.e. room service and delivery on requests. It made no sense given the level of detail of the property, the number of staff on site, the price, the amazing service with the valet, text service and then drop the ball on putting anyone in smokey rooms with tubs that don't drain, hot tubs that don't work and requests that weren't delivered...after an hour. It would have been perfect and I would have extended anyway if not for the challanges I had.

Romantic, chandeliers hanging in the trees, waterfalls all around! Such a gorgeous spot.

Friendly staff and beautiful grounds. Very relaxing with the numerous pool and beach options. Walking distance to Malibu winery. One of my new favorite spots.

One of the loveliest resorts I've ever been to. Best customer service EVER! Excellent accomodations, beautiful manicured grounds, great food. I wish my stay could have been longer!

Went for my honeymoon for 5 days. The ranch looks amazing everywhere you go on property. Service is fantastic, from front desk concierge to the room service. Plenty of amenities to choose from, and the beach club is pretty cool too. You are also a 5 minute walk away from Malibu Cafe. I think this will be an anniversary spot for my wife and I.

What a wonderful place to stay. Great to have to ranch and beach club options. food is great and the staff is unreal. Great place for a weekend away or to take the kids.

Beautiful place to stay and as a wedding venue. We felt like we really got away without having to drive that far. There are two pools and the service is wonderful. Breakfast buffet everyday and plenty of areas to hike in the area.

They only seemed to care about the weddings in progress. If you're just a guest then the service is severely lacking.

Clean and well run. Don't pay the hotel for parking as the valet will take a while and the lot is right next door, 10 yards away. In house restaurant is good.

Great location for corporate events. Terrific food and service forward approach from staff.
