Appalled by service (or lack of) I asked repeatedly to order food. We were told more than once to sit down and someone would come to us. After waiting for nearly 2 hours we decided to leave. I spoke to the waitress in charge and told her why we were leaving but she didn't care and made it clear she never had any intention of serving us. She was very rude and even blatantly lied about us trying to order. Very bizarre! We went to the Lee on solent squash club instead which was fantastic!

Food is of a very high standard, but table service is that of a pub, however when you are sitting in the restaurant I believe it should be restaurant service. Ie pouring wine into your glass and not just plonking the bottle and glasses on the table. Also I'm not a guy and resent being called one.

Food great. But staff where very rude! When stating the drink I was given was not what I asked for, then told by waitress that she saw it being poured so gave it me back!! I refused it and then was told "you ordered it you pay for it" whilst other staff behind the bar sniggered. Disgusting!

Don't come here to eat if you have a child. After ordering a kids meal it was the last dish to come to the table after waiting for over two extra minutes which as a parent you know this will cause problems at the table but also the plate turned up super hot which my child couldn't touch.

Excellent quality food, in a lovely setting.

Excellent quality food, in a lovely setting.
We both had the deep filled steak and ale pie with chips and fresh vegetables. The gravy boat was twice the usual size and as someone who loves plenty of gravy it was definitely enough. The pie was an impressive wedge with acrusty shortcrust. We have never eaten a pie with so much meat, it was a welcome hearty meal on a cold day. There were lots of yummy sounding homemade desserts but we just didn t have the room or I would have chosen the bespoke lemon meringue pie. The staff were friendly. (I d just like to add that on a recent visit I found one staff member to be very snooty and frankly rude. When we asked for a table, not having booked in advance, she rolled her eyes as though we were dumb to even ask. We did get a table and we noticed loads of free tables so us not booking was not the big deal she made it seem. Not a nice way to start the evening in fact if left up to me I would have walked at out as soon as I d seen the eye roll). The pub restaurant has been in the town for many many years so the building has a history. Its been made over several times since we started visiting but its current state is definitely its best so far. The interior colours are welcoming and restful. The furniture is rustic but comfortable. Its great to have such a great venue within walking distance!

I love the Bun Penny is warm and cozy and the staff are friendly.
My friend and I had lunch there we both had the fish finger sandwiches.
Delicious !!!
I think the waiting staff need a bit of training .
We were constantly asked for our order even though we wanted a leisurely lunch.
And when one table actually wanted to order they were firmly told that she only took dessert orders not main courses ????
Very odd.

Popped in for a quick lunch today, a really pleasant experience all round. Polite and helpful staff, easy to order food and drinks via the app. Good beer and the food was excellent. Our dog was given her own bowl of water and some biscuits. Would highly recommend and we will visit again.
