Excellent quality food, in a lovely setting.
Excellent quality food, in a lovely setting.
We both had the deep filled steak and ale pie with chips and fresh vegetables. The gravy boat was twice the usual size and as someone who loves plenty of gravy it was definitely enough. The pie was an impressive wedge with acrusty shortcrust. We have never eaten a pie with so much meat, it was a welcome hearty meal on a cold day. There were lots of yummy sounding homemade desserts but we just didn t have the room or I would have chosen the bespoke lemon meringue pie. The staff were friendly. (I d just like to add that on a recent visit I found one staff member to be very snooty and frankly rude. When we asked for a table, not having booked in advance, she rolled her eyes as though we were dumb to even ask. We did get a table and we noticed loads of free tables so us not booking was not the big deal she made it seem. Not a nice way to start the evening in fact if left up to me I would have walked at out as soon as I d seen the eye roll). The pub restaurant has been in the town for many many years so the building has a history. Its been made over several times since we started visiting but its current state is definitely its best so far. The interior colours are welcoming and restful. The furniture is rustic but comfortable. Its great to have such a great venue within walking distance!
