I just so happen to be in the area applying for an internship spot at Lutheran Social Work Agency and decided to stop in at Bryn Mawr Care to see what job opportunities they had to offer. About Bryn Mawr Care, it is an Intermediate Care Facility that provides specialized individual care for adults with Schizo-Affective Disorder, Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, as well as those who are dually diagnosed with a mental illness and substance abuse.
Upon filling out my application, the opportunity to meet with the hiring manager was presented, who just happened to be in office. I figured why not because I did not have anything else going on for the day. So with that, I met with the hiring manager and talked about the Activity Aide position which was the opening they had at the time.
Application, done! Interview, done! All that was left was a follow-up which I was told by the hiring manager to keep calling back which I did until I was told by the receptionist that they would call if they were interested so I said the hell with it, and moved on.
It was actually too good to be true having a job that sat nearly 500 meters from my apartment in Edgewater neighborhood. And as someone pursuing a mental health counseling degree, military background, and a few years experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities I felt I had the job until I was put on the back-burner at this location. In the end, I was called back by the hiring manager in like a month, but by then I had already found a job. Go figure! If I take the time to actually fill out an application for a job in pen, it means that I am looking for a job right now, and not a month later.
I would be open to applying again in the future, but I would hope that I do not encounter the same situation I encountered initially because that was very unsatisfactory on their half.
