Brooklyn Fencing Center Review

Brooklyn Fencing Center is like a family, comprised of members from all walks of life. You ll feel welcomed as soon as you walk in whether you re a national team member or have just decided to check out the sport for the first time. The coaches and staff are exceptional, and attract a number of visiting international and NCAA athletes. Most importantly, Head Coach Rolando is truly passionate about what he does, and is determined to help each and every fencer achieve their goals, all while maintaining a great sense of humor!

I started fencing when Brooklyn fencing opened, and Rolando worked with me through every step from my first lessons to national championships, world cups, and eventually to college. I spent countless hours there and loved every second of it. Rolando shared his love of the sport with me, and helped me to learn his style and eventually to develop my own. I can't say enough about how much fencing has meant to me, and none of it would have been possible without Brooklyn fencing.

Great coaching, and great friends made here. In the short amount of time I've been here I've learned about fencing and feel as though I have a second family here.

I come to Brooklyn Fencing Center as often as I can and the staff is always super friendly. Rolando is a great coach and helps every fencer archive their full potential. The other students are also very supportive and give advice to one another to help each other unlock their full fencing ability. There is mutual respect between the coach and between students which makes the club like a second home.

Brooklyn Fencing Center was the club that suit my training demands better when I started fencing. As an adult fencer the convenient hours and experienced coaches really helped me improve on my skills and level. Rolando Balboa is the best coach I have ever had, adapting lessons to my needs and pushing me gently enough to get to the level I aspired. I would recommend fencers at any level, whether fencing to compete or for personal fulfillment to make Brooklyn Fencing Center their main training and fencing spot.

My 11 year old daughter has been taking fencing lessons there for awhile now and the coaches are all excellent as are the facilities. Highly recommend.

I rarely write negative reviews but I feel compelled to warn parents about this establishment. I signed my daughter up for 2 weeks of camp here and she enjoyed it so I signed her up for monthly lessons as a beginner. The instructor convinced me to put her in a more advanced class with children who were more skilled. I followed his advice and he also convinced me to sign her up for supplemental lessons so she would have more confidence in the advanced classes. Again, I followed his advice and signed her up for a 10-pack of private lessons. In the more advanced class, they said I needed to buy the uniform and helmet so again I made those purchases from them. They were very friendly to me when I was shelling out thousands of dollars for monthly and private lessons but during the middle of the school year, I had to move out of Brooklyn. I contacted Brooklyn Fencing to see if I could get a partial refund for the private lessons since my daughter had only used a few lessons in her package but, all of a sudden, Brooklyn Fencing, which was very prompt at getting back to me when I was spending money stopped returning any of my messages. Their final message to me was that Rolando would get back to me. It's been two months now and I have asked them to contact me and they have ignored me. I'm very upset by their treatment and I feel that they exploited me as a single mom to get as much money from me as possible. It's very disheartening because I feel very disrespected and I would never trust anybody in this establishment again. Sad to feel like I dealt with a company that has such a low bar in business practices. They have so little respect for their clients that they don't even bother returning their messages.

My son loves training at Brooklyn Fencing Center. He takes lessons there several times a week and bouts at least once per week. He gets a lot of intense physical and mental exercise every time he practices there, and I believe it improves his focus, concentration and self-confidence. The coaches and staff are excellent. I highly recommend this club to everyone.

After fencing at every other club in Brooklyn we landed at Brooklyn Bridge and never looked back. Dan, Henry and the other coaches are simply the best and the older fencers are incredibly supportive. Whether your child is an absolute beginner or nationally competitive, there is no better club.

Brooklyn Fencing Center offers world-class fencing lessons to people of all ages. The instructors are well credentialed competitors themselves and do an amazing job at getting new students into the sport.The facility is spacious, clean and appropriately organized.

After much research, we had the pleasure of enrolling our niece and watching weekly as she developed her social and sporting skills. One of the highlights of attending was the monthly competitions with students of the same age.

Brooklyn Fencing Center is my second home thanks to the wonderful and supportive staff. In my freshmen year of high school I struggled to transition to the new environment that required confidence. With the help of Rolando (the head coach) I was able to gain that and learn so many more life lessons, meanwhile becoming a stronger competitive fencer. I started off fencing in the beginning of spring and by summer I was fencing at Nationals!
