As a self-professed bibliophile, this is probably one of my favorite places in Boston. I just moved up here three weeks ago, and a friend suggested I check this place out. I ended up spending pretty much the entire day just walking around the store. Their foreign language collection (especially their French collection) is superb. I found one of my favorite books (Le Petit Prince), a find that used to prove incredibly tedious and often requiring waiting 5-7 days to get it. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and I highly recommend going to one of the book readings. Definitely check this place out, even if you are just in town for a few days. You'd be amazed at what you can find.

Incredible shop! They graciously held onto a book for me and I drove in from out of town. Such a great vibe in there. I love the look, the style, the books and all the accessories! I didn't want to leave I would love to visit again!

A treasure of Boston, the Booksmith is my go to bookstore. I had to dock a star however due to their organization, it can be hard to find the book or section you are interested in. However, the staff is always happy to help.

Got a dollar? Well you're probably thinking you can't get much for it nowadays. ACTUALLLYYY, at Brookline Booksmith you can buy a used book with it and enjoy hours of reading! Just go downstairs to the $1 book section and find a treasure. I've found that they update the section quite frequently and I always walk away with at least one book (even though I truly don't NEED another one). Their used book section in general is fantastic and they have a bargain book section upstairs with the rest of the new books.

And what if you don't have a dollar? Well Brookline Booksmith has multiple FREE book events every week that are really worth checking out!

Great little bookstore! It's been a favorite stop of mine since I was a little kid. Brookline Booksmith always has good book readings and signings - make it a point to visit this gem! It's accessible by public transportation, just hop off Coolidge Corner on the green line (C line train).

A gem. It was one of the best bookstores in the area when there was competition. Now it's one of the last. Author talks, bargin books, used books downstairs, fun gift section. Along with the Coolidge Corner Theatre across the street, it makes the neighborhood.

A local bookstore with character.

A local bookstore with character.

Pros: Diverse selection of book categories. Great kid's section. Used books for sale downstairs. Lots of cookbooks (my favorite!).

Cons: Never gotten help from a staff member, though they seem sharp as tacks at the checkout. No bathrooms (?). Used book prices seem high. Store layout makes it difficult to navigate when crowded.
