The staff at the store were very friendly and know...
The staff at the store were very friendly and knowledgeable. They were good at letting me know additional items they felt I would need on my hiking trip, and thus the staff successfully up-sold me on equipment that I ultimately did not need or use.
I had gone in the store on July 22 to purchase a rain jacket for a hike. The very friendly woman showed me a variety of jackets and suggested an Arc'Teryx women's jacket as the "top-end best jacket" they had in the store. The jacket was extremely lightweight and stylish. I purchased the jacket and took it with me as my only rain jacket for a three day hike. I got caught in heavy the rain for about a half an hour and the jacket had completely leaked through and left the top of my shoulders saturated. Thinking that the leak may have only happened because of the extremely heavy rain I took the jacket home with me to New Jersey. A few days later I used it in rain to run to my car that was parked in front of my house - again, with this short distance the top of my shoulders had become completely wet. For a top of the line "rain jacket", this was not acceptable.
On Aug 8, I contacted Bristlecone Mountain Sports so that I could return the jacket. Since I was now in NJ I offered to pay for shipping to mail the jacket back to their store in CO. I had purchased the jacket on a credit card, but I no longer had the receipt since I was traveling and it did not occur to me that there could be a problem with the equipment that I purchased.
John, the store owner, and Cara from the "warranty department" were not helpful. They took 3 days to get back to me. Then they were only interested in talking to me if I had a receipt. They told me the wetness was probably from me sweating. Only on the top of my sholders when quickly running to the car in the rain? You have got to be kidding me.
They then said that they only accept returns for unused items, with the tag, a receipt and within 2 weeks of purchase. How would I have known if the jacket was faulty if I had not tried it?
Overall, I feel cheated that they sold me a bad product. I will contact the manufacturer to see if they can help. But as I told the folks at Bristlecone, I have already purchased a replacement jacket from REI. Even if Arc'Teryx gets back to me favorably, I do not need another jacket, I need a refund from Bristlecone for selling me a faulty product.
