Interesting peace of history in the middle of Flushing

Lots of history. Bowne was an Englishman who came to the United States for religious freedom in the 1600's . The Dutch were angry that he was holding religious services in his house in Flushing. They sent him to Holland for a trial. He was pronounced not guilty and was sent back to Flushing. He continued holding religious services in his house. You should check to make sure the house is open because renovations are going on. You could still tour the gardens and see the history of the house

Bowne House is the oldest house in Queens, New York, and is associated with the Flushing Remonstrance of 1657, the first protest movement for religious freedom and freedom of conscience in the Americas. John Bowne allowed Quakers, who were persecuted by Governor Stuyvesant, to worship in this house. Stuyvesant imprisoned and then deported Bowne, who weren't too the Netherlands and successfully appealed to the Dutch West India Company. The precedent for religious freedom was adopted by the British when they took over the colony and incorporated into the First Amendment when the United States was established. Bowne House is now a national landmark open for visitors on Wednesdays.

Kids learnt alot and really enjoyed seeing what life was like in the 1600s.
