This is an awesome, well-organized, second-hand bookstore with a large selection of every type of book! They have a great manga and comic book selection as well as a whole room devoted to children's books. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

We come from Allegany County, MD just to search the stacks here! The employees are kind and passionate about what they do-both in their customer service and their re-homing of literature. More than once I've went to checkout, and spent long stretches of time discussing my chosen books and how the person ringing me up LOVED the book when they read it. My boyfriend loves the large history section! I am very indecisive about who/what I want to read next, and have come to really rely on their Employee Recommendation section. I've never been steered wrong with their synopsis! Highly recommend this bookstore!

If you are a book lover you must stop here. They have all kinds of books, not just old book more recent ones too. Love the little kids room with the sitting area in it. There is definitely something for everyone. Staff is very friendly. I was also looking for a German book to send to my mom and yes they had a few there too. Very cool place!

Absolutely one of the best bookstores I ve ever visited! I live over an hour away but will be back as often as possible. Book lovers beware: they have a section of lovely signed editions from several amazing authors. I even managed to find pristine editions of a few old fantasy books I d had and lost since high school. I did find their selection of graphic novels limited, but that s not what I was there for and there are comic shops to sate that need.

A must visit for anyone who loves books, hands down.

I travel extensively for work, between Virginia and Maine. This is one of the best in that entire region, rivaling most bookstores even in places like Massachusetts.

Update since last few revisits:. An amazing store that has awesome book finds. Also Noel one of the employees there is a rock star employee. The last time I went in there, I gave her a very vague idea of what I was looking to read next ie sci-fi, no specific author, easy to read, etc. Noel went above and beyond and found 3 books for me to start off on my next reading adventure which was: American Gods and City of Dark Magic and City of Lost Dreams.

The awesome staff at this store make this an amazing place to go to!

I love Blue Plate Books!! They have a fantastic selection, and they are so friendly and helpful. It is my "go-to" place when I want something to read...and even when I'm feeling a little "Blue"...they always make me feel better!!

I've always liked this peaceful book shop. It seems small on the outside but inside is surprisingly spacious! They have a great selection of epic poetry which is where I've nagged most of my Divine Comedy hardbacks at, and for comic and manga collectors they have a nice sizable but not overwhelming selection of both and lots of oddball titles that you probably wouldn't find elsewhere. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful as well.

Really, out of all the places I've been up in Winchester having lived around here my whole life, this store is the one with no problems that I've actually experienced thus far. Definitely give them a whirl of you enjoy reading stuffs

Oh btw do be sure to flip open the books before purchasing, I once found a still active $100 Martin's gift card in a WoW manga after I had gotten home. Was a great surprise!!

Huge selection of used books which is well organized and easy to navigate. Lots of books in great condition and some rarer volumes as well which might enthuse the collector.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, and there are a TON of books available. My only gripe is that prices are slightly higher than any other used bookstore I've been in. But even then they're catalogued and organized better than any used bookstore I've been in as well.

My favorite bookstore in the world. The selection is curated so well, I can spend hours in there looking around. It is the last bastion of the bookstore experience.

The owner doesn t simply buy used books in bulk, he curates them. He goes through the books people bring him meticulously looking for good books. Whether they are comics, cookbooks, history or fiction, he has developed a standard he judges books by and it creates a very appealing selection.

The second thing I noticed was the established order. I have been in used bookstores where stacks of unsorted books teeter as obstacles throughout the space and make it impossible to find anything (I m not mentioning any names here). The Blue Plate is more like a library.

The overall appeal is tough to do justice to, but on my last trip I overheard an exchange that helped put it in perspective. As I sat between the stacks thumbing through a book, I overheard the following conversation at the register.

Customer- I remember when I was a kid I loved comic books, I would read them all the time. Then one day my uncle Earl gave me a real book by Jack London. It was

Customer Yes that was it, Call of the Wild. I remember looking at it and opening it and there were no pictures but since my uncle Earl had given it to me, I was going to read it. That was it for me, that s all it took. I have been a reader ever since.

I chuckled because I have never heard that kind of exchange at other bookstores. It was a spontaneous expression of affection for the special outpost that the Blue Plate has become. It is a haven for readers.

I always find a load of interesting books here. Stocked with rare delights and old favorites aplenty!

As an avid reader living in Winchester Blue Plate books has been my go to place for literature. This place is a treasure trove of interesting titles, the owner seems to have read and owned all the books on his shelves. I went in looking for a book that fell under the category of Modernism, Women Writers, and preferably short for it was needed for a school project, he immediately pulled the play "A Raisin In the Sun" from a nearby shelf. It was perfect, a great place to find classics and your next favorite book.

I buy hard back books there every now and then. Good selection of kids books and history books. Books are clean and not missing pages.If you like paperbacks they have rows of them. Parking is a little dicey at lunch time because of the Dairy Queen on the corner. I have seen books there that I read as a kid that I pick up for my Grandchildren.

It was ok. There's no romance section, and they have a lot of Christian books. Its really overpriced. I am used to McKay's in Manassas. I was in Winchester, so we decided to stop by. I won't be returning. I bought some books, I probably have paid a fraction of that price if I went elsewhere.

An excellent bookstore that is worth visiting if you're in Winchester. It has a large variety of books, all in excellent condition. The employees are extremely helpful and friendly. The next time I'm in this part of Virginia, I'll certainly make it a point to return.

Most used book stores I have been to contain randomly acquired musty books that you have search through in order to find something of mild interest. Not BP. It is well organized with quality books, has everything I have gone looking for, and the prices are great. Definitely my favorite book store.
