Really cool local southern soul food restaurant! The location to me always seemed a little awkward as parking is a little bit odd but the food is good and the ambience is right. Price is fair. I really like the fried green tomatoes here. Cornbread, fried pickles and their burger are all really good too. I actually used to live right across the street from here. Miss that!
Had the blackened catfish. Delicious. And the crispy snapper, delicious too! Fried green tomatoes with a bacon, vinegar based dressing was unique and delicious. Food selections were diverse with a wide range of proteins Very friendly staff. Convenient free parking garage parking. Liked the industrial chic theme but the florida map mural wall though nice was a stark contrast to the theme as was the bright lighting. Missed out on the blueberry ice cream as it was crossed out on the blackboard during our entree serving. Overall, must visit!
I visited for lunch and there was no crowd so we were seated and waited on immediately. The service was good and the restaurant was clean with a nice vibe to it. To start, we tried the crab and scallop cakes which were just ok. For entrees, I ordered the fried chicken dinner and my friend had the fried shrimp dinner. Between us we had grits, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and cornbread. We were not impressed with any of the side dishes. The greens had a unsettling sweetness to them, the macaroni and cheese was flavorless and the grits were too thick. The chicken was pretty good and the shrimp was good. The dining experience was good but the food was not my idea of southern comfort . I d come back but I would probably just try the seafood.
Food is excellent with great variety. The dessert is fabulous, they make their own ice cream and fried blueberry pies. The service was great as well. This is a must go restaurant in Gainesville.
Always good quality food, fantastic adult drink menu, and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
We started with the smoked fish dip. My friend had the Blackened Catfish with smoked pork collards, mac-n-cheese, cornbread, and maple-mustard sauce. I had a deep fried pork shank glaze sauce that was wonderful and the portions were very large. Good service, our server gave us helpful menu suggestions.
We love the food combinations at Blue Gill. Everything is fresh and flavorful. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant if you like to customize sides and such as what is listed on the menu is really the best way to eat each dish with the unique sides that pair. Overall we have enjoyed each time we visit.
They do have parking available in the garage above the restaurant and have never had any difficulties with that.
They add 12% to your bill. They say it's to make pay more fair. Stay away from unethical businesses. Surprise we added 12% to your bill and that's not a tip.
No you didn't tell me until I got the bill and she told me they wait to tell customers about the "tax". You know why your business is hurting? You had 2 servers and 1 bartender for 7 people. Guests still had to get upto request drinks and cheques. Maybe you should hire better employees and stop making customers pay for your bad business practices.
