Have been a patient for years whilst appointments can be difficult to get people don t realise that this is because the NHS is overstretched and there s waiting lists everywhere On many occasions they ve sorted out a repeat prescription at short notice and fitted me in with an appointment for the following day it just depends on how fortunate you are I& someone cancels. Plus Dr Ban Yousif is a legend always listens and offers great advice

This is by far the worst medical care I have had the displeasure of receiving anywhere in the world.
I literally had to WALK into the surgery with a broken ankle to make an emergency appointment and was then told that I had to go home for 2 hours as there here no appointments. Seriously.
They are incapable of issuing referrals because the receptionists are retarded and doctors cannot keep paperwork straight.
You will have a wait time of 1.5 hours no matter when your appointment is booked and the medical care that you do receive is meager.
You will never be able to see the same doctor twice as most only work an two days a week every other month (or something like that).
The phone is permanently busy (I've called literally 27 times this morning) so making an appointment is nearly impossible.
This place should be boarded up and signposted as "not fit for human care".
Almost impossible to get through on the phone lines, hostile receptionists (probably because they are understaffed), grubby waiting room. Nurses are friendly. Doctors are OK. The worst thing really is how difficult it is to get through to make an appointment (and the restrictive way in which appointments are booked meaning you can't book ahead so have to waste another chunk of your life not getting through to the surgery by which time the day you want is probably booked up!). Not fair to people with not much money (or time) to waste it on trying to get an appointment. No queuing system on the phone so you don't have any idea of how long you will have to wait, the recorded message always says they are busy, and on at least three occasions I have been cut off after being on hold for lengthy periods of time.
After calling, and calling, and finally getting to speak to a human I got an appointment, but I have to say this surgery is totally awful. Everytime I go there, I feel the doctor (a different one everytime pretty much) is like "not believing" that I'm even ill or having some health concerns.
As soon as you go into the room, its like they just want to get you out asap. I almost feel they consider Im like lying and just going there for fun to pretend Im ill. Totally nuts.
I have no sense of smell or taste for one month now, and today I went there because if you google "the loss of smell", it says you should visit a GP if you lose smell for one week.
But GP just said, I will give you a call if the specialist thinks 1 month is long enough to have been ill and left it like that. I dont know if they'll ever call me or I just have stay with no smell forever, but they probably just think I went there for fun and lying about having no smell.
Useless place and I think enough is enough, Im leaving!!!
Very inconsiderate. I had an appointment for 7.0 am but arrived at 7.20 due to unforeseen circumstances. This was the same time that my GP had arrived (in fact we entered the surgery at the same time!) but he refused to see me and asked me to book another appointment (having waited for ages to get this one). This was really very disappointing considering the GP spends mostly no more than 5 minutes and that over 15 years I have been there only 2-3 times! Too bad!
This practice is very basic & generally disappointing. The practice nurse failed to demonstrate a basic understanding of immunisations beyond being able to stick a needle in. The reception staff don't seem to understand how the practice works - from being unable to transfer calls to not being able to work the booking systems or arrange call-backs. The practice lacks basic equipment such as baby scales and you feel more likely to be made sick the longer you wait, than receive any useful support. It's more like a neglected dump than a family medical practice.
Despite the actual doctors that I have seen at this practice appearing competent, their bedside manner could use improving, although I'm sure this is not helped by the deplorable administration that they have to put up with.
In Short , and for many reasons this is the worst surgery I have ever used. Having lived in south London for 10 years I have been a client of a few, having moved closer to this practice 2 years ago I have experienced nothing but a high turn over of Doctors, excessive waiting times both in the surgery and on the phone, yesterday I was on Hold for 38 Minutes before I eventually gave up!
The receptionists are rude, and talk to each other constantly I have witnessed them having a conversation too important to answer the phone to interrupt, on more than one occasion.
The general condition of the building is poor and untidy, the mangled melange of old newspapers and magazines in the waiting room i dare not touch.
I have always had good experiences but now I can't get an appointment very upset What's the point when you need help very disappointed I am wondering. If I change surgeries. I have been with this surgery since I have been born and I am 67 and nobody is there for me. What's happening
Nurse Tola Adeyemi is so rude, aggressive and such an unprofessional person. I'm surprised she is still in employment, no people skills what so ever. If this is the best the surgery can employ you can see why the surgery receives such bad reviews. I'm surprised she is still in employment she is a complete disgrace to the NHS. I would avoid seeing her even if it's your only option. I'm going to give the surgery one more go before looking to register else where.
Appalling Doctor s surgery. Staff are hateful people who treat patients with contempt. Dr Patel, in particular, despises his patients, humiliates them, and treats them as a mere annoyance; the only thing he cares about is money. The senior More
I WOULD GIVE 0 STARS IF I COULD. I've been with them for 5 years and I've never experience waiting outside for an emergency appointment until now. I can't believe the surgery thinks allowing patients to stand outside in the cold when your sick and frail is fine. Gone are the days when you could call in to see a GP on the day. I needed sutures out, but on the day I needed them out, there was no nurse and I had to wait 6 more days to get them out, leaving permanent scarring. I'm transferring!
Absolutely terrible. Handwaving dismissing GP's, and the worst receptionists. I have been on hold for over 10 minutes on premium rate line while the phone rings right next to them. Oh, and both myself and my wife had booked appointments only to turn up and find we had to reapply to be on the patient list first because we hadn't been ill for a while. A model of total complacency. Don't bother.
I have always had good experience of this surgery, and the receptionists; and they have looked after my widowed dad beautifully over the years. There are a couple of very nice nurses too.
Cannot believe the views of this surgery on google. Where else can you get a commuters appointment and a wide range of services provided by this surgery. The staff and Doctors are very helpful and profesional
The Blackheath Standard Surgery.well, what can i say, they are fantastic Doctors so thorough, caring & excellent, work long hours by god, have i needed them so much these last few weeks they have helped me so much thank you does not seem enough, the recepionists are brilliant too so helpful to me & friendly they have a job to do & hard one at that. the healthcare team nurses are fantastic too we have the best ones ive ever met at this surgery i really don't think i could be looked after any better or more so lucky this is my surgery well done (another reason why i wont move out of area) special thank you to Dr.Yousif,Dr anya Patel,Dr S Bennett last few weeks.
Very low quality surgery. Impossible to get through the phone lines. Delays in scanning your records. Lack of proactivity from doctors and they delay your diagnosis / treatment as long as possible. Nurses can never find my veins during blood tests and have to go to hospital to get blood test after wasting my time going to the practice. Personnel lack care. I requested my records a month ago and I have not received even an acknowledgement. Very bad GP practice. Do not recomment AT ALL.
I am disappointed that I can't give them zero star, one is too many! No appointment ever available, no time for you and don't want to know your post operative long term needs. RUBBISH SURGERY.
Absolutely incompetent staff! Rude and can't work out how to use the telephone system. Firstly told there's a two week wait before they even ask what the problem is. Then on a call back, after waiting 50 minutes on hold they put me through to another patient! This surgery is a joke.
Is something wrong with the phone?. Or just the receptionist doesn't care about the people who NEED an appointment with a Doctor?. I hope is the first because is not is for be worry about it. Happen to many times to me and family never pick up the phone, and the most of the time when they answer the treat is not very nice. I hope you start to do your job properly. Thanks!!
Emergency hours is i have to queue outside to get an app. Then doctors always rush me and if i have two issues they send me away to book another app for my other issue. Or book double app. And i have a child i cant take in my buggy into the surgery i have to park it outside and carry my baby in with me, i have back problem and its not helping. Just terrible
Horrific trying to get an appointment through the system. My doctor acts as if when I see somebody else I haven't been treated at all, which means I can't progress to better treatments and diagnoses. Desk staff are extremely lax and take ages to pick up the phone, I've watched them ignore it. I will be so happy to move.
Every time I have an appointment I see the doctor with an extremely long delay! Last time I waited for more than 1h! Difficult to get an appointment... if you have a choice to sign up for a different surgery do not hesitate to do so!
This surgery really is a shambles. The receptionists are rude and incompetent (Anne). The doctors have regularly made mistakes. A pharmacist refused to give me my medicine because the prescription wasn't written correctly. When I went back to the doctor to get it sorted, the doctor was very unprofessional and said they shouldn't have been prescribing me that medicine anyway?! I also needed a flu jab and an appointment with a doctor. The receptionist booked me in for both at the same time which caused confusion and issues with my slot. This is just a couple of examples, but there are lots more. It's really just a poorly managed place, run by staff with poor attitudes.
Worst gp service I ever experienced, I've been a patient for 3 years now, most of the doctors seem unqualified. One of the doctors is always very rude, treating me like it would be annoyance that she needs to talk to me and refusing to give me any treatment, just sends me home till I'm better! Always comments badly if I've been given an advice from any other doctor (from hospital, etc) and ignores it. One of them refused to send me to allergy tests when I went there with an allergy rash. He treated me with antibiotics and send me to dermatologist. During waiting for appointment (ages) I figured out by myself what's causing the allergy and started to avoid it. Now for 3 weeks I'm struggling with sphenoid sinuses infection (shown on privately done MRI) but a doctor refused to give me antibiotics to treat it, even though I got an opinion from neurologist and gp in my native country and they both agree that repercussions can be very dangerous, like meningitis or lost of sight if the infection spreads. I'm going to see a gp privately again. There was only one very good doctor there, but he left last December. Online booking never worked, sometimes I can't get any appointment or even get through the phone in the morning. Really, sincerely AVOID if you can!!!!!
I have left this surgery now as their care is seriously lacking. They are rude and unprofessional and do not seem to care about you at all. They don t build any rapport with their patients. I am always polite and respectful to the doctors I see, if a bit of a worrier I admit. I now receive much better care at another local GP surgery who have since found out what is wrong with me (after months of being made to feel like I am making it up at Blackheath Standard Surgery) and I have now been tested properly. I ve been listened to properly, had a 24 hour tape, I ve been scanned, diagnosed and am receiving the appropriate treatment and care which without could have led to serious problems in the future. I have a lifelong health problem that will now been taken care of. The female senior doctor in particular is very rude and I felt belittled by her on many occasions. When asked if I could have a scan for my issues she laughed and said a scan of what . I received comments such as I m the doctor I ll be the judge of that when I produced a hospital report that said the opposite. It s always very sarcastic. She shouted What do you want ME to do one day and I left very upset as I had been complaining of depression. She later phoned me at home to apologise. The same doctor also once said something very inappropriate to me whilst having a very personal examination. I was too embarrassed to say anything and was made to feel ashamed! Nobody should ever feel ashamed to be ill. I was so nervous to go there in the end as I feared the ridicule and huffiness. These problems I have had over many years. They do not seem to care how you are and woe betide if you suffer from any kind of mental illness as every time you visit you ll be told to go on antidepressants even if a bit of understanding is all that is required. All people need is a bit of empathy. I am so grateful for the kind and thoughtful treatment I now get elsewhere. I feel respected as a person which I did not at Blackheath Standard Surgery. My partner has left also because of the treatment and terrible service.
I haven't personally experienced some of the below. As with many GP practices the practice is overstretched, sometimes it can seem challenging to get an appointment, often the only option is to get a 48 hour appointment, however, I have been able to do this many times, even after 8am. In addition there are a number of early commuter appointments and you can also book appointments and check availability through the myGP app. There have been a number of changes in staff, but this is to be expected with natural attrition, however I don't think this has affected the quality of care.
I have always found the receptionists, doctors and nurses to treat everyone with respect, warmth, care and concern.
I find the reception staff at BSS to be top notch. There are rules in place that the reception staff have to follow, but the different rules in place mean you can get an app, when you need it. As for the 15 min rule, if you are late due to traffic, is that the receptions fault? No! It is yours. Leave earlier folks. Treat the staff as you wish to be treated. As I sit and wait, the behaviour and tone that some people use towards staff is disgusting, be kind, be so very grateful for the surgery, it's staff and the NHS - we are so lucky. Remember that.
The staff, for want of a better discription, are completely ill trained for their posts, therefore cannot perform duties short of answering the phone, which is another poor attempt at the job discription. I should have left the surgery along time ago, like the reoccuring change of the actual doctors, which is surprisingly very frequent. i will be changing my surgery ASAP as my ailment is life long and so will require life long meds. Sorry, not from Blackheath standard surgery!!! my father visited the surgery on the advice of a hospital. He was told that he was absolutely fine. five hours later he waa rushed to hospital after passing out and was detained suferring a stroke which will cause Dementia due to the severity of the stroke, which could have been avoided had he been attended to when he first went in for treatment. A terrible surgery, with badly trained staff. The star has to be put up or the statement will not be posted. If there were a minus. I would post minus 1
Very patronising. I never can get emergency appointments. I got a sciatica problem, it started affecting my nerves, Drs didn't sent me for X-rays , non analysis nothing! Is very appealing how This male dr. Treated me. A lot of things went wrong in 15 min, just don't go there.
Not really friendly staff and rude sometimes They love Routine and red tapes and if you need something from them they make sure you wait and wait even for for simple follow up appointment..you have to wait at least 30 minutes before you your GB eventhough you made that appointment 2 weeks in advance..seriously the management of the NHS should investigate this bransh ..it's a big shame.
Useless. Never have any available appointments, borderline rude staff, unhelpful. Questionable advice from GP s. Deregistered here and moved to Babylon.
An appalling doctor surgery. You can't get an appointment more than 2 Days in advance, because you are told to ring later. That way they can claim that nobody has to wait more than 48 hours for an appointment. Emergency appointments are extremely difficult to come by. Instead of giving an emergency appointment to a 5 year old child I am told to stand in the cold outside the surgery at 7:45 for the chance of an appointment at sometime later in the morning. The receptionist kindly advise me to wrap up warm. Disgraceful
this is the worst surgery there is, i,m only 38 and they managed to run my health to the ground. medical secretaries book you appointments on the wrong day then they try and blame you for the mistake, the Doctors don't listen to you, and i still have ongoing pain in my chest since 2017 which has been ignored by Dr Patel times and times again, and i,m still non the wiser what is wrong with me, I will be speaking to CQC, Trading standards and Media if I have to, time for a spot light to rubbish services.
Came here to give review following my conversation with the recpetionist (2 secs conversation before she hunged up on me). As a nurse at bigger practice in same area, the service is appalling.
I had an appointment for 8am and I had to take a day off for this. I arrived 5 to 10 minutes late because of the traffic. I explained them the issue and they were just not helpful and they just said I have to take another appointment like this is so easy to do! I remember from my previous appointments I waited for a doctor several times even I arrived on time! They do not take it serious but this is a health issue and they cause it to be delayed if there is a something serious!
Discrase. Always rushing, can't even explain what my problem is. Dr. Patel or whatever his name is, is telling me i need to book a double opointment because i was taking too long on expaining my symptoms. They just want you out ASAP nothing else not helpfull at all. Dont even want to rate it as 1*.
Awful customer service. I was on hold waiting for a receptionist for over an hour only to be told when they eventually picked up the phone that I would not be able to make an appointment. Receptionists are extremely rude - I have heard them gossiping about patients in the past and not helpful in any way whatsoever. Extremely dissappointing.
Phoned for an appointment and was offered one within two days at 07:30 (commuter one). Excellent and quick service, better than my old surgery where appointments had a two week delay (not their fault, just too many patients).
I wouldn t go back to this Surgery if it was the last on the entire planet. I was verbally abused and physically hurt by the most unprofessional nurse I ever had the displeasure to encounter. And I should mention that she NEVER changed her gloves but she did use her hand to: - write on the computer - use the phone to call a doctor - open instruments - examine me - throw away instruments - back to the computer She half refused to give me the examination I WAS CALLED BY THEM TO GET and only gave me (repeat) prescription after I insisted for a while (apparently it s not her job...).
If this is how a nurse behaves, don t even want to know how GPs are. I changed practice faster than the wind from the East.
To post on their website that you have to call from 8am for an appointment is just a joke. Trying to call to get an appointment and the line is constantly busy. Also my baby had to wait for their 8 week vaccines past the 8 week mark due to a 'back log'.....you know when these children are born so accommodate for it. Why should my child be put at potential risk due to lack of organisation on your side.
I arrived before 8am to book an emergency appointment...I found 15 forlorn people already queuing.
1. Receptionists asking for confidential personal information in a crowded waiting room. 2. Appointment given for 1030 with a NURSE. I told the receptionist that it was for a sick certificate. Receptionist assured me that the nurse could speak to GP and issue a SC. 3. Duly returned at 10.30. Asked receptionist an hour later if the nurse had forgotten about me. She said the nurse was running late. 4. At 1210, receptionist called out my christan name from where she sat behind the desk to summon me and informed me that the nurse cannot issue sick certificates afterall. She could barely apologise - sorry is clearly not a word with which she is familiar. Half a day wasted by sheer incompetence. 5. Surely the management ought to know how many patients they can reasonably hold on their list?! A poor service offered to many...
Abysmal, unprofessional staff. Patients do not wish to have idle chit-chat imposed upon them by the receptionists. Such poor presentation to the public!!! Is the warning on the front of desk regarding verbal abuse due to their own conduct? Very poor show. It is no wonder that the best doctors move on within a year. If the receptionists are so terrible, it speaks volumes about the GPs who are indifferent, oblivious or both.
Called first thing as instructed, held the line for 20 minutes. Only to be told that 'We have nothing bookable'. Mid sentence to ask what my options were when the receptionist said, 'Thanks bye,' and hung up. Stellar customer service.
They don't even deserve one star . Absolutely rude and unwelcoming. When I ask what a certain medication or illness is they tell me to search it up on Google . I definitely advise you to go to another GP the experience was ridiculous.
Absolutely atrocious surgery. I wouldn't even award one star if possible. I'm writing this review whilst calling the surgery and. it's currently been calling through for 5 minutes. Let's start with the reception team, they're rude dismissive and very loud. You can't possible have a private conversation with their extremely shrill voices. Lost my blood test results TWICE and got shirty with me when I became exasperate. I've never encountered any issues with the nurses, maybe the one star can be for them. The doctors...if you can call them that. I remember once telling a doctor my symptoms, I then briefly went to the bathroom to come back to him looking in a symptoms guidebook...very encouraging...NOT. Was also told to 'gargle salt water' and 'cleanse eye with warm water' after suffering with a throat infection (I'm highly prone to tonsillitis) and an eye infection (my eye was yellow, red and pussing) after waiting 2HOURS for an emergency appointment because my doctor had arrived late and staff hadn't turned up. Often feel as though the doctors don't have enough time, they're gruff and keep appointments very brief. Definitely shorter than the 10minutes appointed time. The waiting time is beyond ridiculous and the building needs to be renovated, the majority of people leave there more sick than they went in. And guess what, the surgery still haven't answered in the time I've taken to write this review! Typical!
This is crapy GP when I went first time for my appointment I waited for more than an hour I didn't say anything again I went for another appointment I was late for 8min because of traffic they refused to see me and the time table to see doctor is unmanageable I have never seen this kind of GP ever
I entolled at this sugery because it was the closest to my house.
Very poor surgery. Nurse was late on more than 1 occasion. Doctors kept me waiting a long time on several occasions. My daughter had to have private surgery after nurses, and the doctors wasted weeks after she got an infection in the ear. I felt the doctors did not empathise or really care. Also one unconfident nurse sent me to the hospital to get a vaccination because she could not manage to do this herself. I just ask myself - why was she not experienced to give me an injection - it has never happened before or since.
I have to say that I also discovered that some other parents at my daughters school had a very unsatisfactory experiences there too.
My current GP practice is excellent. I should add that this was a few years ago.
The process of seeing the doctor has spread over three months for me and still continues. I'm being kicked back and forth between the surgery and the hospital, no one wants to see me and every time I eventually manage to get through on the phone they do their best to get rid of me as quickly as possible. They refuse to acknowledge that the hospital does not have their referral. Terrible and rude reception staff, avoid at all costs.
Avoid, Avoid, AVOID! This place is a joke! Do not go here, they deserve no stars! The reception staff are the rudest, most incompetent people I have ever met. You can wait up to 2 hours to see a doctor even when you have an appointment. Honestly, I have complained to NHS England so many times about this practice! I could have cried tears of joy when I left!
Recently moved to the area and was really worried about this surgery based on the reviews. My experience couldn't have been better! I registered online as a new patient and received a letter the following week calling me for a screening test I'm due. Really friendly staff on the phones offered me a quick appointment that suited my work hours. The appointment was on time, quick, virtually painless and with a very friendly nurse. Thank you for the great care!
Had to wait outside in the cold for emergency appointments - don't they think to open up the surgery earlier as a good will gesture for us ill patients? Receptionist answered my genuine questions sarcastically and as a vacant expression as if I said something stupid. No smile. Making appointments in person is pointless as they only book appointments for 2 weeks time, not before and not after. Near impossible to get hold of them by phone. My partner is transferring, and I might too.
Difficult to get an appointment, receptionists are rude and impatient (even if they're the ones keeping you waiting!) Staff don't appear knowledgable; they look drained and (understandably) shattered and overworked. Not welcoming or efficient.
just changed doctors, over worked receptionist staff are helpful but difficult to get through most times, surgery is to busy and Doctors always seem too busy to offer an adequate service. e g relative is 83 yrs suffers from COPD and finds it difficult to get basic care from surgery like a flu injection.
