Beacon hill (Miami Gardens location) is a great school for the older children ages 4 and up, I've never heard any complaints. However my experience with my son who attended this school since age 1 until he was apprx 2 months shy of his 3rd birthday experience was far from great. The teachers were young and inexperienced and didn't hold any college level degree in childhood education. I would think if the school is charging $180 per week (this price doesn't include meals) that the teacher would have a degree/certification in early childhood education. My 2 yr old son came home one day and told me that his teacher (Ms. McPhee) was bad, when asked why he feels that way he replies "because she is". The next day I ask his teacher McPhee whether she is having any behavioral problems with my son she replied surprisingly saying "No (my son name) he is a good boy, I have no problems out of him". I replied ok thanks and please let me know if there is anything concerning my son in the future. So a week or so later my son comes home and says "Ms. Mcphee pinch me" and he shows me where she pinched him. The next morning I asked McPhee about this and she says "He said that? I don't know why he would say that and I mentioned to her about him calling her bad, McPhee denied everything and I knew then I needed to start looking for another school. So the school year finished now he's in summer camp and I was still in the process of looking for another school. I go into my son's class to pick him up and he's looking sad so I asked him in front of his teacher what was wrong? but he didn't reply so I asked him again outside of the classroom and he said Ms. McPhee hit him. I was furious I walked back into the class and made it clear to McPhee that she isn't to hit my son or her and I will have a problem. She again denied hitting him and I asked her why would a 2 yr old make up such a thing, I told her I believe my child and I will be reporting her to administration! I was very upset that day so I didn't stop to the office to report the incident to administration because I felt it best calm down first. The next day I received a call from the principal wanting to set up a meeting with me regarding my son's "progress" . Mind you the school year has finished his teacher had no complaints of him during the school year so I assumed this meeting would be discussing my complaints of McPhee hitting my son. I arrive for the meeting with the principal, I don't recall her name (Petite white women with dark hair) but it wasn't Ms. Hyman, Ms. Hyman was always sweet and very professional. The unknown petite woman started the meeting telling me how my son isn't talking at school he doesn't know the teachers name, he doesn't play with the other kids, I may need to have his hearing checked. She also stated that there are times when my son doesn't tell the teacher he has to use the restroom the teacher has to ask him, then he would use the restroom. Mind you, my son was 2 years old and out of diapers, so what! If he required cueing from time to time. This woman gave me a list of bogus problems about my son and never mentioned my complaints of her staff hitting my son. She even stated that if my son continued at Beacon hill she will not be moving him to the 3 year old classroom. When I asked the woman why she's having this meeting with me after the school year is over and during Summer camp? and why weren't any of these concerns mentioned during the school year she stated she has been meaning to meet with me but was busy. I told the woman that I see what she is doing, she's trying to make me take my son out of the school which is my plan anyway. My son tells me his teacher is hitting and pinching him and instead of addressing that problem you side with the abuser and try to conjur up bogus nonsense to rid my son from your school. I removed my son from that school the very same day and placed him in a higher quality school.
My son has been attending this school since he was 18mnths he is now 7 years old and the level of education and the small classes is worth it. He is in the 1st grade is learning geometry and some cursive writing....love this school
