About Bay area outreach and recreation program (borp)

Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program (BORP) is a non-profit organization that has been providing adaptive sports and accessible recreation for children and adults with physical disabilities and visual impairments in the greater San Francisco Bay Area since 1976. BORP's mission is to improve the health, independence, and social integration of people with disabilities through sports, fitness, and recreation programs.

BORP offers a wide range of programs that cater to individuals with different abilities. These programs include wheelchair basketball, power soccer, goalball (a sport designed for individuals who are blind or visually impaired), cycling, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, camping trips and many more. The organization also provides adaptive equipment such as handcycles or racing chairs to ensure that everyone can participate in their activities.

One of BORP's most popular programs is wheelchair basketball. The program has been around since 1977 when it was started by a group of athletes who wanted to play competitive basketball despite their physical disabilities. Today the program has grown into one of the largest wheelchair basketball organizations in the country with over 200 participants ranging from beginners to Paralympic-level athletes.

Another unique program offered by BORP is goalball. This sport was developed specifically for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. It involves two teams of three players each trying to throw a ball into their opponent's goal while defending their own using only their bodies as obstacles.

In addition to its sports programs, BORP also offers fitness classes such as yoga and strength training designed specifically for people with disabilities. These classes help participants improve their overall health while also building strength and flexibility.

BORP's impact on its community cannot be overstated. The organization provides opportunities for people with disabilities to engage in physical activity which not only improves their health but also helps them build confidence and social connections within a supportive community.

The success of BORP can be attributed not only to its dedicated staff but also its partnerships within the community including local businesses, schools, hospitals and other non-profit organizations that share similar goals.

If you're looking for an organization that promotes inclusivity through adaptive sports programming then look no further than Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP). With over four decades of experience serving individuals with physical disabilities throughout San Francisco Bay Area communities - this nonprofit truly stands out among others!
