This truly beautiful basilica shrine that honors our blessed mother is a great place to go and pray. I have been here dozens and dozens of times and never tire of it. silver masses are offered each day, and a significant portion of time each day is also provided for confessions. There is plenty of on-site parking, and a small army of friendly security/ hosts. Guided tours are available with advance notice. They also have audio available for self guided tours. A bookstore, gift shop, and full-service cafeteria highlight this wonderful place of prayer. You could spend hours just enjoying and praying with the domes, in addition to all of this side chapels.

Amazing place to pray and spend the day as a family. Bookstore, cafe, beautiful grounds, as well as the spectacular church and crypt. Our toddler always asks to visit and learns so much just by looking around.

The biggest and most magnificent church I've ever seen. It's an architectural masterpiece with beautiful detail and artistic design. Masses at different times of the days. Totally recommended to visit. Inside the Catholic University of America. Beautiful organ and great incense smell. It has a crypt and a gift shop, as well as a bookstore. Just amazing.

One of the best churches I have seen. It is also known as one of the biggest churches in Washington DC. Visiting from Toronto, I really enjoyed looking at all the designs in the church. If you are in the area, you should surely check this church out. You will not regret it.

Indeed a very beautiful Roman Catholic Church. I went here on Holy Saturday 2019 and the art was the most MAGNIFICENT my eyes have beheld!! Right when I enter, I felt the most holy and uplifting presence of God. I literally felt like I was walking through heaven!!! I went to confession in the Crypt Church underground, I felt like a new man afterwards. I ate at the little cafeteria the Basilica provided!!! As with all places that I ve been to, the food was absolutely delicious, made with plenty of love with the people who managed the place!! In the afternoon, I look up at the National Shrine, feeling the happiest I ve EVER FELT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!! On 10/17/2019, I performed at a recorded (soon to be broadcasted live in 37 American cities)Christmas concert in the Crypt Church. I felt super famous when I did it. A very proud moment indeed!!!!!!! The experience is the most unforgettable!! I will return!! Next time, I ll ascend the tower it has. In the gift shop, I bought a deck of plating cards, as well as a coin, containing the words of wisdom from St. Michael. When I left the church with my family, I said a prayer with them and we were reminiscing all the sacred things we ve seen. Thank you sweet Jesus for my enjoyment of this most beautiful church in the U.S. of A!! It s also fascinating to know that all the beautiful mosaics were installed by hand!!!

This building and complex are a must see if you are visiting DC or if you have friends/family in from out of town. Whether or not you are religious, the history and majesty of the building is breathtaking.

Tours are free and make the building and chapels come alive with greater understanding of the history behind all of it.

Do not miss it!

This is the largest catholic church in the US. It was a blessing for us to have visited this minor basilica. Very clean, orderly, holy, solemn place where one can meditate and pray. Visited all images of the blessed mother Mary. A very moving heart warming experience. Very beautiful church.

Beautiful big Shrine right in the heart of D.C. If you are Catholic and looking for things to do that doesn't cost much over the break, take your kids here. They have a snack area as well as a gift shop, which carries very lovely gifts.

Absolutely beautiful. It is a Catholic Church, but there are numerous chapels that support the Byzantine and other rites of the Church. It is a wonderfully traditional service. I highly recommend visiting during a weekday and taking some time to pray and reflect.

A great place for worship. This is also a tourist attraction. A must see place when you visit Washington DC. This maybe a Catholic Church but everyone is very much welcome to visit. On Sundays, they serve breakfast and lunch too.

About Basilica of the National Shrine

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is a magnificent Roman Catholic Church located in Washington, D.C. It is considered to be the largest church in North America and one of the ten largest churches in the world. The Basilica is dedicated to Mary, who is venerated by Catholics as the Mother of God.

The history of this beautiful church dates back to 1913 when it was first proposed by Bishop Thomas Shahan. The construction began in 1920 and continued for over 60 years until its completion in 1990. The Basilica has been designed with a combination of Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, which gives it a unique appearance.

One of the most striking features of this church is its massive dome that rises up to 329 feet above ground level. It is adorned with beautiful mosaics that depict scenes from both Old and New Testaments, as well as images from Catholic tradition.

Inside, visitors can find numerous chapels dedicated to various saints and religious figures such as St. Joseph, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. John Paul II, Our Lady of Guadalupe among others; each chapel has its own unique design and artwork.

The Great Upper Church houses many impressive works including an enormous mosaic depicting Christ Pantocrator (Ruler over All) surrounded by angels; it also contains several side altars dedicated to different saints such as Saint Patrick or Saint Francis Xavier.

In addition to being a place for worship and prayer for Catholics worldwide, The Basilica also serves as an important cultural center hosting concerts featuring renowned musicians from around the world throughout the year; these events are open not only for Catholics but also for people from all walks-of-life who appreciate music or art.

Visitors can take guided tours through this magnificent building where they will learn about its history while admiring its stunning architecture and artwork; there are also audio guides available if you prefer self-guided tours at your own pace.

If you're planning on visiting Washington D.C., make sure you add The Basilica on your list! This awe-inspiring structure will leave you breathless with its beauty while providing an opportunity for spiritual reflection amidst all that hustle-bustle city life offers!
