Lovely venue, wish there was more on there that we would go see as it is always a pleasant evening for us. The place is nice a clean, spacious and modern. Staff are well presented and friendly and drinks are reasonably priced too.

The Civic is a building that demonstrates just how far Barnsley has come in recent years.

Despite living only 15 minutes from the centre of Barnsley I have not had, or made, cause to visit for what now feels like much too long. The centre of town has been transformed and The Civic is one wonderful example of the modernisation of the area as a whole.

The Civic contains a spacious and peaceful exhibition area that, like most gallery's, is minimalist is design allowing the changing exhibitions to take centre stage.

At my time of visit the exhibition room housed the BEST ART VINYL 2017, which is also simultaneously been shown in Bologna and Budapest. Now in it's 12th year the unique award is a celebration of the best vinyl artwork to have been produced in 2017 and displays a shortlist of the 50 nominees vying for the title. The exhibition also displays past winners of the award from the likes of The Last Shadow Puppets, Thom Yorke and The Klaxons.

An interesting part of the exhibition is where members of the public are given the opportunity to bring in their favourite vinyl artwork for it to be displayed, as part of the exhibition, complete with a brief description from the owner of what they like about it and why it means so much to them.

Truth be told, I almost walked straight past The Civic initially mistaking it for some modern office space. My curiosity was rewarded ten fold in the most delightful way upon entering and I encourage you to take the same approach and visit this local gem.

I came here for my partners graduation. From entering the building all the way to our seats we had been pleasantly greeted by multiple staff. The building itself was quite surprising, from the outside I didn't expect much however it's seems to be a great Venue which is under utilised.

Had a great night here for alun Cochrane gig. Clean and spacious with a great atmosphere. Staff were professional even when dealing with rowdy audience members who had to be removed from the venue. Great price tickets compared to other places too

Lacks a bit of the 'special element . Miss the old hall. Times move on and buildings must become more user friendly but not really anything to call a hall in town any longer. Staff pleasant and helpful. Access is ok.

We went here for training. Very confusing layout. Reception staff seemed like they wanted to be elsewhere. No aircon in the room which was very hot. Tea and coffee breaks were hit and miss. Cups were dirty and spoons were short in supply. Not great unfortunately and no one trusted the lift.

My friend Jim Dobbs and i did a recce of the place last week as he is doing a disco for a wedding on 3rd of November, the lady that showed us round was really friendly and helpful, what a marvellous place, Jim is a sound man for a band called Reakt, they might like to play there but that would be up to you and them, John Gratton, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.

We have been to loads of family shows here and I can t recommend this place enough to our friends who also have children. All the shows we have attended have been incredible. When we have attended the interactive performances as part of a small audience, I have been blown away by the messages acted out in such a simplistic but imaginative way. I love the free exhibitions in the civic too. It s such a little gem in Barnsley. I have been coming for years and I hope that me and my family will still be turning up for years to come
