Probably my favorite local restaurant. Everything is awesome, from the food to the cocktails to the desserts, to the service. Favorites item: Mushroom Brie soup.

Fantastic spot for lunch and dinner! Best salad dressings ever, and Sam makes awesome drinks!

Very friendly staff, great food options, nice vibe. Will definitely be back for lunch some time.

My only complaint is I wish there were other side options besides the chips.

Had a nice lunch with my sis. She had Turkey Reuben with sweet potato fries. I had a Caesar Salad. Great atmosphere, good food, great waitress. Fun little gift shop and a super bakery!

Most of the time great experience. Wait staff is not always accommodating, but the food is good. If you need something fast and would prefer better service, go to the bar.

Love their food and they have so many different menu options which I love! Their store also has so many cute things. The staff and owner are all super nice too!

Service was very slow. Our waitress was pleasant and professional. My husband s order took forever to be served. Apologies were offered but the wait time warranted a discount. None was offered. The Internet was down, so they had to call in credit cards which takes time. I heard a staff member say it s been down for weeks. Really? Fix it!! Don t think I ll be back or recommend this place

Came here twice in the last week, outstanding food! Original menu with awesome salads and everything on the brunch menu made my mouth water. Sweet potato biscuits are worth the trip alone!

Food was good particularly the crab bisque soup. Service was not so good. Waited 30 min for 2 sandwiches and a small soup. Restaurant was not busy. Waitress never checked in with us. After food was delivered, it was as if waitress forgot about us until it was time to deliver the check.

I would normally never leave a bad review, however this experience was horrible and they had the opportunity to fix it but chose to make it worse. We were sat quickly for Sunday brunch, which I was thrilled about. Our waiter, a younger gentleman, greeted us quickly and got our drink order. Once we had our drinks, ten minutes went by and we flagged him down to order food. While waiting, ten, twenty, thirty minutes...I started to get antsy. At 45 minutes after ordering, our food arrives...COLD. The waiter apologized and then went missing again. At this point I had had enough. I asked for the manager. The young woman approached an older blonde woman to come speak to me, she denied and sent the food expediter. Like really?! She apologized and was very sweet, took a few dollars off my bill, and one dollar off my friends bill as well. As we were leaving, the older blonde woman who should have talked to me, told the expiditer, "You didn't give them their money back, right??" I mean come the f%#! on. I have worked in the restaurant industry for 6 years of my life. The front, the back, serving and bar back. If the chefs are behind, the servers need to pick up the slack and make the experience as great as possible. That was not the case here. I spent $40 for a cold burrito and a manager who could care less about her customers. Buyers beware, they losty business and I will make sure everyone in our command and friends never come back.

Service is kinda iffy at times but the food is great.

Had the crab cakes last night for dinner and they were the best I've ever had. Pair them with the mac-n-cheese for an outstanding dinner! Everything at our table was great, but I ate mine before anyone else had a chance to share (steal) any...

The best soups in Virginia Beach! I go in about three times a week and they are always different. The staff is also very kind and always welcoming they even greet me by name!

I went there to buy their truffles and they are absolutely the worst. I had their abuelitas Mexican hot chocolate truffle extremely hard I had to use a knife to cut it open and I tried it and it tasted like they coated the whole thing in pure cinnamon powder it was awful I immediately spit it out the rest of the truffles I bought were hard as well and they tasted like they've been in the refrigerator for a long time. Total waste of money and they are quite pricey as well I paid 8 dollars for 3 measly truffles never going here again. I forgot one thing their cupcakes are dry as hell who knows how long they stay In the cupcake displays very disappointed.

The staff and owner are both extremely friendly and the food was delicious from the appetizer to dessert!

Fresh lunch and dinner always good. Bakery is very good as well. I enjoy the Signature Club, my favorite sandwich on the menu. Good service and spirits.

Came for dinner on a Thursday evening and were seated by a very friendly hostess. Our server greeted us promptly and was very knowledgeable about the menu. She never missed a beat but was not intrusive either. What followed was one of the best meals ever! My husband had the ribeye - cooked perfectly - and I had the crabcakes. We ended our meal with an apple cake that was a little bit of heaven!
On the other side from the dining room, there's a boutique for shopping with some unique items and a beautiful bar where they were doing wine tasting. The server said they have an amazing brunch on Sundays. We'll definitely be back!

This is an amazing restaurant. You don't only have a great menu to choose from but a bakery, specialty coffee and a great unique shopping area.

Amazing food, superior service, very clean inside. The atmosphere is very relaxing and conducive to a great one on one lunch date or getting together with a friend for coffee and a snack.

Ordered carry out tonight it s January and freezing outside. Got the Salmon with Brussel sprouts perfectly cooked and delicious ! and great portion!! Maybe most noteworthy were the cocktails to go. Parents of 4 kids we rarely get out More

Both main dishes and desserts are made in house and from scratch, and the flavor and attractiveness of the food reflects this. Food is a bit pricier than others in the area but you definitely get what you pay for with the quality and quantity received. Highly recommend!

Brought the wife and kids out for a family brunch and it was to die for!!!!! Can t wait to come back. Also make sure that joe is your server he s an alpha male!!!

Love this place! Friendly service with a smile, great food, and a good selection of local craft beers and wines to choose from. And their Sunday brunch is fantastic!!!

I have eaten, as have family and friends, at BBG many times over the last four years. The owner has always NOT been very friendly but is was easy to overlook this because the food was good. Within the last year the service has gone from mediocre to horrific and embarrassing. The last several times we have tried to eat here after church we were seated in a timely manner but it took 20+ minutes to get water or coffee and 2 hrs total to get through the entire meal and the orders were wrong. We tried again this week and didn't bother to stay for a meal as we were seated and 15 minutes with multiple "teen" wait staff standing around talking a to each other (only five tables occupied) and we had not been offered water or coffee so we left. It is a real shame the service is as bad as it is and I can assure you we will not recommend anyone to this establishment again nor be a patron.

Best sandwiches I have ever had. Chicken salad is amazing

I went in alone, I was seated at a 4 seater and all the chairs were dirty. I ordered an apple panini and the top of my mouth hurts so bad from the texture of it. The flavors were good but how the apples were placed on the sandwich made it difficult to eat. My napkin in which my silverware was rolled in had 4 visible strands of hair on it so I requested another one, and a friendly apology from the hostess was given who stated it could have come from the dryer but that should be something to really look into as that should not be acceptable!

First time, but certainly won't be the last. We (3) all had something different for lunch and everything was delicious. Sweet potato fries were great as were the sandwiches.

Loved the mediterranean ambience, our waitress was awesome. Food delicious, love their sweet potato fries! Will definitely be going back - especially for their homemade desserts!

I am a Fried Green Tomato fan. I used to order the Caprese with fried green tomatoes but then I tried the Fried Green BLT Sandwich and it was my next experience ...It was so big I only ate half, the rest for dinner!

During my first visit, I had the Pamesan encrusted salmon with mashed potatoes and broccolini. The dish was cooked perfectly and the flavor was absolutely on point!

I really want to give the owner a 5 but I can't. I wanted just a half of a sandwich but had to get a half salad as well... the server at the counter was preoccupied, made very little eye contact. I came here with my mom earlier this year and had a great experience. I see that they are hiring servers so maybe that's the problem. The recommendation for the half tuna sandwich was a good one. I've had the Asian salad before and it is very good as well. Compliments to the chef but the pricing and customer service could use some work!!

Just had a delightful lunch date at Back Bay Gourmet. We both selected the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich with the optional Seasoned French Fries. The portion was enough for two people in my opinion. The staff was very friendly. Danaka was our Server and she was patient while we selected from the delicious menu options.

Cannot stress enough how amazing this food was! It was relatively inexpensive. We had the Signature Club with homemade chips and the Brunch Banana Chocolate Waffles. The atmosphere was wonderful. The portions were large. We will be back many times over!

This place is AWESOME!! I am so tired of franchise food or pre-made food and love that everything here is made fresh and made to order. I travel a lot and have the opportunity to sample restaurant food all over the country - and world - and I am always happy to get back to BBG!

Their french fries are unbelieveable, literally everything on the brunch menu makes my mouth water, and the specials are amazing. Dinner has its own menu, with favorites being shrimp tacos (which you can also get as a "bowl") and the chicken marsala...and the pork scallopini...and the pizzas made with cauliflower dough...and the shrimp and scallops...and the rest of the menu!!!

I m still thinking about my dinner there last night, it was delicious!!! Every dish I ve tried is fabulous and the staff works hard to make sure guests are happy. I was impressed with the number of cars using their curbside service, it s great to see people supporting small businesses during this time!

I have eaten in many restaurants that were pretty bad but this is the first one that I am writing a review about. I was having difficulty biting my burger and when I uncovered it, feelings of disgust and shock could not stop. Sitting there was a huge creature-like thing. It turned out to be an oyster mushroom.
I could go on but I'll spare you the details.

My friend ordered something different and it wasn't very good and had to be sent back.

To sum up, Stay Away. You'll be glad you did.

Every year for the past few years. A group of us would come to VA beach for the weekend. A friend told me about this place. And I have never been able to make it. I have to say from now on I'll make this place part of my yearly beach weekend trip. The food is awesome.

The food and service is just the best. No reason to go anywhere else to eat. I have been here numerous times and each meal was better than the last. You need to try it, but go easy on Wednesday's that's when we go!

Ate here with my sister in-law today while visiting. Food was okay.. over priced for the quality mine was luke warm while here was cold. No warm at all. Wait time to be seated was right away however getting drinks was about 15 minutes after sitting and 10 minutes after that we ordered. 45 minutes after we ordered we got our COLD food. We talked to who we think was management. They were not helpful at all. They only took a dollar off our check. Then walking out we over heard the owner start complaining about the dollar we got taken off..... 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO A FRIEND!! BUYER BE WEAR!!!!! P.s I was a waiter for 2 years. And sister in-law owned food truck we know customer service. This place DID NOT HAVE IT!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

I really like this place for a great bite to eat for lunch with your hubby or companion. I had the Lagomar Sandwich with the Mediterranean pasta. We had the sweet potato fries as a starter. Everything was great! Friendly staff and very pleasant to talk to. Highly recommended!

Great food. A little on the expensive side for lunch.

Banana macadamia nut pancakes and breakfast burritos were amazing! They make real cheesy grits which were perfect.

Great local eatery. The food is always fresh and wait is never long. The wait staff is warm and welcoming. The restaurant clean and well maintained. They also have a small bakery and fully stocked bar with a gift shop.

Delicious scratch-made food, exquisite desserts, and the best lattes I've had since being in Italy. No joke! Great service also, nice ambiance and it's rarely crowded. This place is a local treasure... let's hope the tourists don't find it! Ha

Server was overwhelmed and didn't know the menu. He didn't place all orders in the computer. When the last meal (crab cake sandwich) finally came out it was cold and had little flavor. The assistant manager came over to apologise and placed all of the fault on the server being new. Will try again but first trip was not good.

Have you ever ordered something off the menu, got something different than what you ordered and been told that s as good as we could do? If that sounds like fun to you, you will love this place. We didnt.

We placed an order for a salad with chicken on top. Asked for the chicken to be made plain with no seasoning due to a no salt diet restriction. Waitress came back and said the chicken was cold, made with salt and pepper. We asked again for it to be made fresh with no seasoning. She said OK.

We were never told that wasnt going to be possible, or given the option to order something else. After waiting 30 minutes, the waitress delivers a plain salad, no chicken and tells us that s as good as they can do because they cook their chicken 20 lbs at a time and they were not going to defrost more to cook it fresh for our salad. Had she told us that to begin with, we could have chosen something different or left to eat somewhere else.

Since the other part of the order was a hot sandwich, we accepted the situation for what it was and just ate it. Then after waiting another 20 minutes after eating for the waitress to bring the check, we had to ask the hostess for our check because the waitress had disappeared. The restaurant wasn t crowded and this was during the week.

We didnt make a scene, but we wont be back. Whiskey Kitchen is a much better option.
