Best drink! And combined with a Brazilian caipirinha then ...
I have not gone, but I read a little about the Bacardi family, their undertaking, their fight against Fidel's revolution from Santiago. Bad streak with many deaths in his family, the factory in Santiago (expropriated) was nationalized. Then he went to Puerto Rico and set up a bigger factory there and in the end they settled in Mexico. Interesting story how the strength of an entrepreneur prevailed over that dictatorship. The success of the product was given by Facundo Bacardi with its distillation process that made it so refined.
Interesting place to learn more about rum. The museum is located 20 minutes walking from Parque Cespedes or on a motorcycle you go for 0.50 cuc. The admission costs 5 c.u.c and includes the guide that explains everything for 30 min. At the end of the visit you include a glass of rum. They open it from 09:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. preferably visit it in the mornings.
A nice stop while in Santiago de Cuba. Rum tasting, rum and cigar purchases and other souvenirs sold. Santiago (brand) rum seems to be the favorite with knowledgeable locals. The longer its aged the smoother it gets. Buy a bottle of the 11-yo for a good drink neat or on the rocks.
Great to see where it all began. However don't expect to see much apart from the exterior!
A great place to see. NO!!!! you will not be able to purchase any Bacardi rum. The factory was taken over during the revolution and now everything sold is Havana Club.
Great rum, particularly the sweater one. Also best place to pick up cigars at not over inflated prices
Visited with 20 Tampa Rough Riders. Sample provided. Best Rum prices we saw on our trip.
