This is the sister restaurant to Burma superstar with more fusion Asian food rather than authentic Burmese food. Ambiance is nicer and less wait. Food was pretty tasty. The tea leaf salad is a must try. Also had the lotus chips which were average. The entrees were all very good. Lamb curry was my favorite. Also tried the sangria and china house drink. Sangria had lychee but couldn't taste it in drink but china drink was more tasty and unique. Overall food experience and would come again.
Delicious. Not quite the same menu as Burma, but always less wait and a better ambiance. food: B+ service: B+ ambiance: A- favorite dishes: samusa soup, tea-leaf salad Parking sucks around here, so give yourself an extra 10 minutes.
My happy place! Love their tea leaf salad, and the oxtail was rich and satisfying.
So delicious and all of the employees are kind to customers, even when they are being slammed by a dinner rush. I usually order the lamb curry or fish chowder which are both incredible. Not cheap, but serving sizes are generous and the flavors are incredible. I'm so happy to see that they still have plenty of business despite the quarantine.
The spicy duck skin fried rice is kinda epic. The flower pot tea is also super cute.
Make sure to try the tea leaf salad and the brussel sprouts. The azuki-banana french toast is also amazing if you want something sweet
I recently dropped by the B Star on my way home from a very long bike ride to Rodeo Beach in Marin and was famished so I stopped by to see what was on the menu, hoping there was plenty of vegan/vegetarian items to choose from. To my delight, there was: 18+ items! I had the coconut tempeh noodles, which was amazing, as well as the rice pudding, which had fresh fruit in it - seriously, the best rice pudding I've ever had. I will certainly go back for more!
Less crowded cousin to Burma superstar. Same (but different) great food, and no lines.
Came here for brunch! We started with a carafe of mango mimosas. YUM. Then got the infamous brussels sprouts that are a must!! Tastiest morsels I've ever had! MUST GET! Even if you're not a fan of brussels sprouts, these may convert you! I had the duck hash quesadilla that was delicious, and a large portion. I was only able to finish about 1/3. V had the pork tocino and licked the plate clean. Service was friendly and attentive.
Happy hour specials M-F until 7pm! You can make reservations, very similar to Burma Superstar which is a couple streets down. There is a seating in the back patio area which is through the entire restaurant past the bathrooms. They have happy hour specials, the one thing I can't tell is if the happy hour specials are smaller than the standard appetizers. There definitely was a lot of ice in our coconut lime mint mojito made with suju, but tasty nonetheless. Highly recommend the coconut rice and ordering different dishes to share family style!
My son s favorite restaurant. Get the platha dipper and the firecracker cauliflower. The b sprouts and squash soup are also excellent. The tea leaf salad used to be good, but Marnee Thai s is better. Better than Burma superstar though, and definitely the best platha in town.
First time at B Star. There were 6 of us. We were seated quickly. Our server explained the menu options. Our food arrived in a timely manner. Everything was tasty. The prices were reasonable. Parking can be challenging
B-star is like the meh version of Burma Superstar. They are missing my favorite dishes and it's more expensive. I wouldn't go here with the choice of Mandalay and Burma Superstar nearby.
B star had a valentines combo that was vegetarian friendly and let us try a bunch of things on the menu for a fair price! Thank you very much.
Extravagant wait despite others seated fifteen minutes after us getting their food fifteen minutes sooner. Coconut noodles were tasty, but not as good as other options in the area. For the price, it was alright.
Excellent food and overall experience marred only slightly by slow service. Waited minutes for anyone to take drink orders (the place wasn't busy), then the drinks came in batches, so some people were left waiting. But the food - wow. Fresh, interesting, delicious. The spicy duck skin fried rice and chicken/shrimp biryani were especially good.
Platha Dipper and b star cooler. And everything else
Skip the lines at Burma Superstar and come here to enjoy a super tasty and spicy Samusa Soup. I have to say that I wasn't so impressed by the tea leaf salad. I tried both ordering the "On the go lunch", which includes a small portion of both. Get here early on weekends, they serve brunch and lunch until 3:00 PM. After that the kitchen closes, and they only serve drinks and appetizers.
I thought B Star was just as good as Burma Superstar. They have the same dishes I usually get (samosa soup, tea leaf salad, sesame tofu, coconut rice) and I didn t have to wait in any line. I will definitely go back!
After having been recommended to come here repeatedly, I finally made it and am disappointed I didn't come sooner! The sister to Burma superstar, there's a smaller menu selection, but without the same wait. Came on a Tuesday at 8 when Burma superstar had an hour long wait for a tackle of four, and b star had open tables. Got the praatha dip, tea leaves salad, yellow curry tofu, miso cod, black rice pudding, and nutella banana praatha. We also got the b star sangria. Literally everything we ordered tasted amazing, with the exception of the sangria that was okay but not standout. I could have had a meal that was only the pratha dip and been perfectly happy. The miso cod was flakey and light with the egg noodles. The desserts were enjoyable, both done well, but not something I'd prioritize in the future. Our server was kind, and friendly. She checked in with us just enough, and was responsive and accommodating to our needs.
Came here for brunch. Loved the tea leaf salad. Great service too.
I love all the foods here, the taste combine between Indian and Thai's food .. sooooo good
The place to go when you don't want to wait in line for Burma Superstar. Beautiful interior, great service, and the same popular dishes from Burma Superstar. Have a noteworthy non-alcoholic drink menu, too - teas, smoothies, lassi, and more.
The Khao Soi was pretty sad; closer to overcooked Fettuccine. The salad was okay though.
Tea leaf salad was great and pesto-y. Coconut rice was light but great as a base for putting yummy sesame chicken on. Veggie rolls were lovely and minty. Yum!
We were waiting in an hour long line for burma superstar and they referred us to this location for quicker service. We walked right in and were seated immediately. Most of the food tastes exactly the same. The pumpkin pork stew was great. But the tea leaf salad fell short. It had different lettuce and much more of it. It wasn't as crunchy and didn't seem to have as many ingredients as its counterpart location.
Lots of hype, lots of line, slow slow slow. Coffee tasted no different to me, but the slick ad campaign describing their slow process was interesting to read while I waited. That said my boyfriend loved it.
This is Burma Superstar's sister and less chaotic restaurant. You can actually get reservations here. It's a lot nicer and cleaner than Superstar. They're menu is pretty extensive in regards to Asian food. They have quite a variety and they still serve the favorites, tea leaf salad and samosa soup. I usually come here for weekend brunch and order the jook. It's a porridge with all the mixtures of flavors and textures that are similar to those of the tea leaf salad, but with porridge. It's soothing and delicious.
Delicious food with a bunch of vegetarian options. They also have an amazing chocolate cake with ginger ice cream on the dessert menu.
Very expensive. Miso cod was very disappointing. They forgot our appetizer and brought one of our main course dishes but not the other. Finally asked them to bring out the other main and unfortunately it was cold. The service was poor, wait staff weren't friendly. We left still hungry and agreed we would never go back. Such a shame.
We had the tea leaf salad and Kau Soi based on our server's recommendation. Both were really tasty. I usually try to save half my entree for lunch the next day, but I couldn't do it this time. The staff were all really nice, too. We stayed a bit after closing without realizing, and they were so kind and patient that they didn't try to rush us out.
My girlfriend and I ate here for the first time last night and it definitely lived up to the hype. Good service and the perfect amount of food! Try the B Sprouts and Thai Salmon Curry Pot Pie.. they won't disappoint.
Super tasty food and very nice service. Always happy to come back here. It had been too long!
If you want to try something new, this is the perfect place! The tea tree salad is full of flavor. I prefer it without the fish sauce. The vegetarian tomato curry is a solid plain dish full of fresh vegetables. The service is fantastic. Everyone who works here, cares!
Sister restaurant to Burma Superstar with a more pan-Asian slant. Ouchazuke was a fav dish no longer on the printed menu but you can still order if you ask.
Some of the food was pretty good, some of it was meh. Was expecting more flavor.
I'm a bit upset as I write this review because I enjoyed my meal at the B Star so much it makes me wish I had a food replicator at home like on Star Trek. A bit much? Yeah, I know but if you haven't been here yet, you should. And yes, you'll be glad you did!
The food is out of this world! As someone who is both vegan and gluten-free (I know... hard life) it is amazing to be able to enjoy an actual desert at a restaurant rather than a scoop of sorbet. I have only dined at the bar so can only speak to the service there, which is TERRIBLE. I have a feeling that siting anywehre else is a much greater experience, as the food runner all three nights I dined there was more educated than my bartender and remembered me everytime I came in. Regardless of the terrible service and sitting at a bar covered in paperwork and receipts (at 9P when they stop seating at 9:30!?) I would still come back for the great food.
Limited menu, but the curry noodles were delicious!
Good food and reasonable prices. Very popular spot though, so even with a reservation expect to be wait a while
My Take: yummy Asian fusion || Went For: Wednesday night dinner || The Vibe: the wait was too much to bear at their parent restaurant, Burmese Superstar, so their younger and hipper joint was worth a trip || Special Dish: B Sprouts || Avoid Their: overly tomato Mussels appetizer || Price Point: get in before 7pm for their sweet happy hour || The Service: good stuff, but not overly stuffy || Reservations: n/a but these two restaurants have a great system and customer service to keep their patrons happy || FYI, FRIENDS: they also have 2 pints during HH to get your ass drunk! -- Eat up, Kimmie
Great food and service. Fred the bar keep was especially good to us. The duck lettuce cups were amazing
Delicious menu. Must try! Went for brunch and I had a little of everything on our groups plates. Will definitely come here again.
Awesome food, portions arent incredibly large. Expect to wait for a while if you have a party larger than 2. Plenty of shopping and other restaurants around the area to check out as well. What there is NOT plenty of is..parking. Goodluck!
It's the Burmese Superstar sister restaurant without the 2 hour wait!
Burma Superstar's cute little cousin - I actually prefer the food here as opposed to the original restaurant. Plus, there is a Happy Hour!
Sister restaurant fot Burma Superstar. Have similar dishes, though menu is not as rich.
My friends and I found this place while wandering around looking for brunch. Most other places had an hour or longer wait on the Sunday that we went, but Bstar only had a 20-30 minute wait and let me tell you, it was totally worth it. They had the most unique bloody mary I have ever tasted (hello Wasabi!) and there are two other unique dishes worth mentioning. The Salmon Ochazuke is "Japanese style comfort food, pan fried rice, green tea broth, poached egg." It sounds weird, but the chef must know what he/she is doing; it was surprisingly light and extremely tasty. We shared this as an appetizer, which I would recommend, so that everyone gets a taste. The second dish that I would recommend is the Tuna Don (Seared tuna, gingered rice, scallions, pickled ginger, hijiki, daikon sprouts, sunny side egg, furikake, avocado). PERFECT COMBINATION. Enough said.
Normally 5 stars. Had the tea leaf salad and it was horrible. It was mainly romaine with like a weak tea leaf dressing. This is where I learned to love bermese tea leaf salads
Bloody amazing, all the way through - food, service, interior etc. The Platcha dippers where to die for!
Great choices for meat eaters. Green tea salad is the best!
Fun food, different than your regular restaurant. Unique foods.
The most popular dish here I think is tea leaf salad! Instead I ordered this Porridge with BBQ pork, ginger, chili oil, preserved egg and pork floss. If you love Porridge then you will love this dish. I never had this combination of toppings on porridge, definitely worth trying! I will come back to order this again!
I enjoy the majority of the dinner food here but I'm not too impressed with their brunch. Waitstaff also leaves something to be desired
Great alternative to Burma Superstar. Appetizers are amazing and drinks are good too. Happy hour is 5pm-7pm.
Everyone loves Burma Star, but I love B Star. It's pretty much the same menu as Burma Star, and there's rarely a wait. Twice when we had 1.5 hour wait at Burma Star, they called B Star and got us right in. I also like the rustic atmosphere on the back patio with the white lights strung about.
Love the happy hour specials... B Star Cooler is my favorite to share with some BSprouts and Platha Dipper.
I love the food here. Brunch and dinner are delicious!
I'm not much for waiting in lines, so Burma Superstar is usually out of the question for me. So happy now I can get my tea leaf salad fix at B*Star! Unlike Burma Superstar, most of the menu is fusion at this restaurant, but if you're after the classic salad, you'll be glad to know it stays true to the original.
Service and food here was excellent. I came for breakfast and had the tofu scramble. It was a unique spin on a breakfast dish but it was awesome.
Completely ignored my food allergy request. Led to a few days of being very unwell. Completely unresponsive and irresponsible management.
Delicious and fresh! My friend and i split had brussel sprouts and rainbow salad which is mixed table-side. I had fiery basil with tofu and friend had curry pumpkin stew. Fiery basil tofu was definitely fiery and flavorful. Stew was also good but my friend said less pumpkin more meat would have been welcomed. Had to wait 20 mins but better than 45 min wait at burmese superstar down the street. Overall great experience.
Came here for brunch with friends during my first weekend in the city and loved it. The atmosphere is great -- very open/sunny feeling -- and the food/drinks with delicious. We tried a couple of different mimosa flavors (try lychee! so interesting) and I had the duck hash quesadilla. Would definitely go back and suggest it to friends!
I went there a long time ago. It is delicious. The tea salad is a must try. It is a totally unexpected taste but yet so delicious. The flavors of B Star food are different but definitelly worth a try even if you have to wait in line for it.
Ok food but not impressive. Lamb curry and ox tails are better than the chicken dishes. The tofu dish is also just so so. It is hard to find a parking spot close to the restaurant and there is no valet parking.
Not quite as great as its sister restaurant, but it still has the tea leaf salad, which is excellent, and has a little bit more variety since its asian fusion instead of just Burmese food.
Excellent Sunday brunch enjoyed in the new outdoor dining area.
Great little place - has a lot of the same food as its sister restaurant, Burma Superstar, but a lot less of a wait! Great happy hour too.
overrated, not authentic and not as good as it used to be.
It's a well known place that lives up to the hype. I highly recommend it! Can't really go wrong with the menu, but the tea leaf salad is non-negotiable, you gotta order it. It's presented beautifully and tastes delicious. We got the lamb mango curry and the duck skin fried rice, would recommend both. Can get super busy on the weekends, but we walked right in on a Monday night.
I've been wanting to dine here for a long time, and I'm glad my dad and I were seated quickly even though we didn't make reservations. The place was empty, but in my experience at other places, no reservations means dining at the bar, or putting names down on a list, even if the place was empty. I've even had a hostess at another restaurant give me a disappointed look, and recommended getting reservations for the next time even though the restaurant was completely empty. Not at B Star. Excellent and welcoming service. We ordered the B sprouts, basil tofu, shredded chicken jook nook, lychee iced tea, and the platha dessert with nutella and ice cream. If you've read the other reviews, you'll notice that many recommend the B sprouts, and I do too! It comes with crispy rice that gives the charred sprouts a really good texture. The basil tofu is good for two people, and I thought the level of spiciness was just right. I didn't try the jook nook, but my dad ate the whole thing without any complaints. I also recommend getting the lychee iced tea. It's not too sweet, and went well to calm the spiciness of the basil tofu. The dessert was so delicious and ended the meal well! It's platha bread stuffed with nutella, condensed milk, almonds, and coconut ice cream. My mouth is salivating right now as I'm typing this.. It's definitely big enough to share with another person, but I imagine I could devour it on my own. The platha was crispy, yet had soft layers. And you can't go wrong with nutella. I was afraid the condensed milk would make it too sweet, but it actually didn't. The restaurant is small, so I do recommend getting reservations ahead of time if possible. My dad and I were there right before the 6pm dinner rush, so we were lucky to get a table. I'm definitely coming back for brunch soon!
Mediocre over all with some hits. The fried tofu appetizer was excellent. Garlic noodles were disappointing. Broccoli was delicious! For some reason it wasn't as tasty as the original Burma Superstar. Atmosphere is nice, casual but elegant.
The mother restaurant was full, they sent us to the sister restaurant. My first Burmese ever. Not disappointed. Good tasty food with texture. Noodles were al dente. Excellent. Friendly service. Good selection of vegetarian and vegan food. The cauliflower entrees need to be ordered. The main course was like a ramen. Great IPA and service. Waiting staff should know who ordered which food before presenting the plates. Clean restrooms. Very enjoyable, I would repeat without hesitation. Lost a as it's a bit cold near the doors and they need a maitre d to get drink / condament orders.
Very tasty and unique food. The tea leaf salad and miso cod were particularly good.
