I have worked for Autumn Care since 2013. I really enjoy working here, so much that I came back here to work after moving back in town. One great perk is the administrators dogs come to work almost daily!!

My father is currently at Autumn Care and I am so grateful for the care he is receiving there. Knowing he is safe takes so much stress off of me. Whitney is a true angel! You can hear her smiling through the phone. She talks me through everything that is happening with dad. Whitney is a great asset to the company. I know dad can require a lot of patience at times so I appreciate everyone taking their time with him and treating him so well. The community is beautiful on the outside and dad says inside it is the cleanest place he has been. I would recommend Autumn Care of Mechanicsville to anyone, it is top notch. Everyone in the building needs to check their back for wings because they are all angels.

Autumn Care of Mechanicsville has very helpful staff, therapy and nursing. They are the reason I keep coming back here. When the hospital asked where I wanted to go I said Autumn Care! Where all of my girls are.

Autumn Care of Mechanicsville is a beautiful community. The staff is very attentive to the residents and the needs of the families during this difficult time where you can't see your loved one in person. They do a lot of activities to try to help the residents cope with social distancing, a favorite is the musical hour where they play music down the halls and take requests from residents, nothing like some feel good tunes to remind you of better times!

My Nana was there in Nov-Dec 2017. My family and I were very pleased with the care she received. My Nana cried saying goodbye to staff on the day she discharged. Beautiful building with excellent care!

My Mom was there for 6 weeks, recouperating from foot surgery. The nursing staff took excellent care of her wound, per her orthopedic surgeon! Her newspaper was delivered daily, which she greatly appreciated. She also liked the food better than the last place she stayed. It s also a very pretty facility with a garden & fountain that is pleasant to wheel them outside & sit & visit.

I don't know what I would have done without Autumn Care of Mechanicsville! When the unexpected happened, I was introduced to Autumn Care for my loved ones' care. They stepped right in with the willingness AND a plan to help. Armed with a rigorous physical, speech and occupational therapy program, they built my FIL back up to help give him the best quality of life he could have, just when I thought all hope was lost. We are on our third return visit to Autumn Care and I couldn't imagine going this road without them. A very clean and homelike setting is only enhanced with their caring and expertly trained and professional staff.

Staff is unable to take care of basic needs.
I would not recommend to anyone.
The only reason they get one star is because that was the lowest rating available.
Facility is poorly run from top to bottom.

If you're thinking about putting your family membe...

If you're thinking about putting your family member in this facility, don't. If you really love them, spare them the suffering. When you're trying to locate a nurse it's a ghost town, all they are missing is the tumbleweed. We started writing down all of the mishaps and these are just a few of them. First they transferred my family member from the bed to the chair at 3:00 p.m. Bed sheets were stripped off and the bed was not remade all day. By 8:00p.m. we tried to find our nurse because no one has come back in to fix the bed. Couldn't find our CNA so we found a med tech down the hall and asked her for the bed sheets. She said she would page our CNA. 30 minutes later, still no response. We ended up finding the linen closet and making up the bed ourselves. Then a nurse comes in as we are doing this and does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Secondly, when my family member needed to use the facilities, he paged the nurse, no response. He verbally called out for help, no response. 45 minutes later a nurse comes in and tells him to just USE HIS DIAPER. The diaper is there for accidents not for intentional use. That is called neglect and these are just 2 incidents within a 24 hour period. Staff are rude and not helpful at all. Seriously, DO NOT go to this facility.

My mother had to be rushed to the emergency room because her sodium and chloride levels was so elevated due to lack of water through her feeding tube. She was so severely dehydrated to the point she could have went into heart failure. Some of the staff actually care, but there are some who could really care less and administration only care about the money, not the patient. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who cares about their family member.

My husband was a patient there for 2 weeks and is a quadriplegic. There were issues with meds, no bath given until after a week and at our request. Floor had SAME stickiness and trash on the floor over 7 days after being there and was only cleaned up when a call was placed to higher authority. Room smelled of urine so strong that we brought in a scented burning light. Care was spotty at best as they would come in after a long delay, cut off the call button and say, "I'll be right back". Sometimes they came back within an hour, and sometimes no one came at all. My husband had NO sores/rashes on his body at all, but while there he acquired 2, and I had to bring a medication cream from home to treat him there until they finally used some from there. The care was poor, and my husband was just counting the days to leave and come home to get the proper care he needed. On another subject, the Physical Therapy was normal and no problems there.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the staff of Autumn Care for their care of my mother before and especially during the pandemic. It has been difficult not being able to see her, but the nurses and other staff have been more than accommodating of my continuous phone calls to check on her. In seeing mom through the window and on Face Time, I can tell when they are with her that mom is being taken care of and is cared about. I can tell they are good to her by her reaction to them. You can tell she loves them. One nurse even gave me her personal phone number so I could stay in close touch. Mom is on the Spring unit and I can't say enough good about this group of people. The only concern I have is that they seem to be understaffed on the weekends. But they still do all they can to provide quality care.

If you would like to be bullied and work under constant distress this is the place for you ! As a family member to a loved one here at Autumn Care I've witnessed it all. If your an excellent nurse the staff will surely run you away because the rest of the dynamics in the building are ruthless and lazy ! Protect your license and seek other avenues..

Great facility and staff. Shout out to nurse Doris. My dad was there for a month for additional rehab after leaving Sheltering Arms. The nursing and rehab staff took great care of him while he was there. He liked it so much, he's now heading back to vacation again from another procedure. :-)

Autumn Care is a nice facility. During my stay I have been treated well and with respect. The therapy team finds a nice balance between your medial/physical limitations and pushing you to do more. The therapist didn t make me feel like new tasks were impossible and helped to set realistic goals. I wish I could have done therapy even more like twice a day.

You can rest assured the staff will not come running in the event of an emergency. My grandmother has demensia and was insistent on getting out of her wheelchair for bed. I pressed the call button and even asked a nurse for help and she said they are short staffed and giving someone else a shower. It's currently been 35 minutes and still no one has come to help. To prevent my grandmother from falling, I helped her into bed alone. Her diaper has not been changed all day and I am waiting to see how long it takes a nurse to respond. It's sad that I have to wait here just to make sure her diaper gets changed. Very disappointed in the staff and the lack of urgency. This is all after they gave trays to everyone at dinner, but forgot hers. I believe she wouldn't have had dinner if I had not spoken up.

This place nearly killed my mother. Their care was horrible. They are understaffed and the staff that is there is burnt out. The place should spend more money on staff than the landscaping. Don't take anyone you care about to this place!!!!!

Fall 2018, Mom had to go to a rehab facility due t...

Fall 2018, Mom had to go to a rehab facility due to major back surgery. It was rough, in fact so bad that I did "break" Mom out! On that day, as I was pulling away from that place with Mom, we both said .... thank you Lord for getting us out of there!
Due to last time, I was extremely anxious about Mom going into another rehab facility.
This time we chose Autumn Care, a facility that I have heard a few negative comments, yet more than triple in good comments.
Unfortunately, Mom's first 10 minutes was not good due to one nurse. Yet, Autumn Care did take care of the issue by moving Mom immediately off that nurse's hall. The first nurse was reported and we were assured that the nurse's actions were not approved of and would be handled. Why would I mention the first 10 minutes? I believe it is important to highlight the fact that the issue with the nurse was taken care of right away without me having to make a huge fuss.
Mom's care for the remaining time was wonderful!! Nurses and staff were polite, attentive and happy. The facility was clean, bright, smelled good and everyone greeted you. Mom even said that the food was good!
In Mom s wing/hall, we noticed that all staff was very gentle with their words, tone and actions with each and every patient/resident.
When you walked into the main hallway from the front door, posted on the wall are pictures, with name listed and what division they were the manager of. Transparency!! You did not have to ask the name of the director of nursing. It was up there for all to see.
The day that Mom was leaving, nursing staff hugged her. One of the directors came out of her office and "helped" us load up. As we were pulling off, Mom stopped me, because here comes jogging out the door, an employee from the business office. She came to say goodbye.
I am extremely thankful that Autumn Care was so great to Mom and our family. After last fall, we NEEDED a great place for Mom to heal and gather her strength.

This turned out to be such a pleasant experience. The nurses (Sheri) & the residents are so sweet & friendly. My Mom was upset about having to come briefly but this experience has changed her opinion about nursing homes. She loved Autumn Care of Mechanicsville & cried when she left. Thank you so much to the nurse Sheri & staff!

The PT department is wonderful and so is Dr. Patel. The nursing staff is horrible! My mother waited over 30 minutes every time she pushed her call bell. She was treated rudely by the staff on a daily basis and on her final day a nurse argued with her over whether she needed oxygen. She died 6 hours later of a pulmonary embolism!

A lot of things to say and most negative. No excuses for poor residents care. They charge for care which not provided. It's called fraud. Neglects also was noticed such as not assisted/refused with toileting/bed pan for hours or telling resident he should poop in his diapers...

I came to Autumn Care after my surgery and I'm very glad I did. The therapists here treated me with respect and what they say is true, if you do the work you will get stronger! They gave pictures and diagrams to help see what to do and it gives me the ability to try them on my own if I feel up to it. The exercises helped me feel prepared to return home.

It is a shame that my mother in law can t even get the basic essentials at this care facility... countless times we have had to demand forgotten shower after shower. Same answer as to why over and over again we didn t have enough staff to take care of it . I guess the staff would rather sit around waiting for a shift change on the nurse station counters instead of being productive until the bitter end of their shift. Such a shame we get to this age in life only to have care givers trapped in a profession they don t have a calling for - to serve the elderly!!

My mom was there for a week and a half. The Nursing staff sucks, they don't give meds as scheduled and don't assist patients with bathing. One day I was visiting my mom at noon time and my mom wanting to go take a nap after lunch she was told that none of the patients could go back to their rooms until 7p.m., because the had sprayed for ants and the floors were being waxed. I signed my mom out and took her home until 8p.m. that night. The Physical Therapy department was great. My mom was suppose to stay there for 3weeks. I had to bring her home I could not take it anymore with the Nursing Staff

My uncle is currently at Autumn Care of Mechanicsville and our family is so pleased with the experience. From the very beginning of the process the staff has been friendly and attentive. The Admissions process is so well explained and they make you feel comfortable with knowing that your loved will be well taken care of. The nursing staff does a good job of keeping you informed as much as they can.
