About Attitudes in reverse®
Attitudes in Reverse®: Starting the Conversation, Reversing Attitudes, and Saving Lives
Attitudes in Reverse® (AIR®) is a non-profit organization that offers a comprehensive mental health plan to individuals and communities. The organization was founded by Tricia Baker and Kurt Baker after they lost their son Kenny to suicide. They realized that there was a need for more education and awareness about mental health issues, especially among young people.
AIR's mission is to start the conversation about mental health, reverse negative attitudes towards it, and ultimately save lives. The organization achieves this through various programs such as presentations, workshops, support groups, and advocacy efforts.
One of AIR's flagship programs is the "In Their Shoes" presentation. This program involves individuals sharing their personal stories of living with mental illness or losing someone to suicide. The goal of this program is to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness by increasing understanding and empathy.
AIR also offers workshops for schools, workplaces, and other organizations on topics such as stress management, suicide prevention, and coping skills. These workshops are designed to provide practical tools for individuals to manage their own mental health as well as support others who may be struggling.
In addition to these programs, AIR has also established support groups for those who have lost loved ones to suicide or are struggling with their own mental health issues. These groups provide a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and receive emotional support from others who understand what they are going through.
AIR's advocacy efforts include working with legislators at both the state and federal level on policies related to mental health care access and funding. They also collaborate with other organizations in the field of mental health care research in order to advance knowledge about effective treatments.
Overall, Attitudes in Reverse® is an organization that is making a significant impact on improving awareness about mental health issues while providing practical tools for individuals struggling with these challenges themselves or supporting loved ones who may be experiencing them. Their programs and advocacy efforts are helping to reverse negative attitudes towards mental health and ultimately save lives.
