About Associação ModaLisboa
Associação ModaLisboa: Promoting and Developing the Fashion Industry in Portugal
Associação ModaLisboa is a non-profit organization that aims to promote and develop the fashion industry in Portugal, as well as the national creative capital. The association was founded in 1991 by Eduarda Abbondanza, who is still its president today.
The fashion industry has always been an important part of Portuguese culture, with a rich history of textile production dating back to the 16th century. Associação ModaLisboa recognizes this heritage and works to support and showcase contemporary Portuguese designers while also fostering innovation and creativity within the industry.
One of Associação ModaLisboa's main initiatives is Lisbon Fashion Week (Semana da Moda de Lisboa), which takes place twice a year in March/April and October/November. This event brings together established designers, emerging talent, buyers, press, and fashion enthusiasts from around the world for runway shows, presentations, exhibitions, talks, parties, and networking opportunities.
Lisbon Fashion Week has become one of the most important fashion events in Europe due to its unique blend of tradition and modernity. It showcases not only Portuguese brands but also international brands that choose Lisbon as a platform to launch their collections or expand their markets.
Associação ModaLisboa also supports other projects related to fashion education (such as workshops for students), sustainability (such as promoting eco-friendly practices), social responsibility (such as collaborating with charities), cultural exchange (such as inviting foreign designers), among others.
In addition to Lisbon Fashion Week, Associação ModaLisboa organizes other events throughout the year such as pop-up stores (where designers can sell their products directly to consumers), showroom visits (where buyers can see collections up close), showroom sales (where consumers can buy discounted items from previous seasons), among others.
Associação ModaLisboa's website serves not only as a platform for promoting its activities but also for providing useful information about Portuguese fashion history, news about local designers' achievements abroad or collaborations with international brands or institutions. The website is available in English so that it can reach a wider audience beyond Portugal's borders.
Overall Associação ModaLisboa plays an essential role in boosting Portugal's reputation on an international level by showcasing its creative potential through innovative designs while preserving its cultural heritage through traditional techniques. By supporting emerging talents along with established ones it ensures that there will be continuity within this sector while encouraging new ideas that will keep pushing boundaries forward making sure they stay relevant within today’s fast-paced world where trends come & go quickly!
