If you are coming to Argonne you would almost certainly need to have a car. There is very little public transportation avaliable during the week, only the morning and afternoon are there buses that leave argonne. You won't be able to get in or out without a car on the weekends. The campus is very spacious and with many trees, it is possible to walk between buildings but some buildings may require a walk around 20 minutes which is why you would prefer to have a car. There is a bike share program here but you must have a helmet and it can't be taken off campus. Limited food options for non lunch hours Monday through Friday.

I've heard about this place since I was a little kid mostly from fisherman who have caught fish not far from the main Laboratory explaining that the fish or somehow genetically altered I don't know if it's one of those stories you hear like the fisherman who caught the giant fish that got away but there's still this mystery surrounding Argonne National Laboratory which draws you in but overall it is still a beautiful place

Such a great place to work. I did 2017 and 2018 summer internships with Dr. Henry's group and I was able to learn a bounty of information. PI's and administrative staffs are supper supportive. Now I am staring my Postdoc at ANL.

A beautiful place to work, to get trained or to examine or test new technology. I attended a training program on Teaching Nuclear Science and Technology in High School Level for two weeks in Sep 2018. The laboratory is situated in a quite peaceful places and has occupied a large area. They have many experts of different scientific fields. I found all the staff very professional. They were always happy to answer the questions of their respective profession.

Argonne has a cafeteria and a grill, located in building 401.
The mango salad was sweet an tart served chilled.
The roll was hard, would of liked it toasted with some fresh butter.Overall the price was a bit on the higher side.
The convenience is having a spot open as well as the weekend.

Wonderful open campus style lab with some amazing programs. Everyone from the summer students to people who have been there for decades are generally very friendly and open to conversation. The lab is a clash of history and innovation and new developments, which is something that's hard to find elsewhere. The addition of nature between buildings makes it a pleasure to walk from one area to the next. There are quite a few cafes scattered around that offer snacks and various food items, and a cafeteria that has a varied selection of foods- the sushi is actually pretty good here!
It's a truly unique experience at a place where so many people work together to help our world.

This place is weird as hell. Worked there for pipefitting and I was not allowed to look or say anything to the scientists in the lab or I'll get fired cause I will loose concentration to them. Weird

Great place to work. Not much room for climbing the ladder if you don't have a PhD, but any position is very well taken care of, with extremely competitive benefits. If you're just interested in science, keep an eye out for scheduled tours, especially to the Advanced Photon Source.

Though personal clearance is needed to enter the property, the type of research and work which occurs at the facilities at ANL are critical to the furtherance of science. It is also a great place to hold or attend a presentation. One of their notable research areas involve a high-powered photon beam. Recently, President Barack Obama visited ANL to discuss the role their research will play in the future of America's energy sector.

If you're lucky enough to get on a tour or find a day when they have an open house, then visit this place! It's obviously designed for tours with large observation areas and walls of windows, but security concerns have scaled way back on these. I've been twice and would go again in an instant.

Amazing place. I went to the summer coding camp, and they taught us beginner's Python. Their interns and scientists came to speak to us, and we got a tour of the supercomputer they have. It was an overall experience and I hope that they safely continue their labs and experiments and help improve technology. Out of all the national laboratories I've been in, this has got to be my favorite.

Argonne is a wonderful place for scientists and engineers to find colleagues as passionate about their work as they are. At every turn you'll see scientists working together on problems large and nano-sized. The value of this country's national lab system cannot be overstated.

I had a really great time touring here. The facilities are amazing, and the people working here are really friendly and open to talk. I only wish I couldve used one of the tricycles to zoom around the lab, but a man can dream. It does take a lot of planning to make a visit if that's something that interests you.

I visited Argonne back in 1959 or 1960. One of my Dad s cousins was working there (his department was X-ray Crystallography). A fascinating place! I got to see Cherenkov (sp?) radiation. A bluish glow caused by particles going thru the water faster than the speed of light in water! Awesome!

I took a group of junior high school students here for a field trip on computers. I was expecting a lot considering the immense staff, DARPA funding, and general reputation. The event was advertised as teaching students about computers and programming in python. We spent the first 30 minutes "pretending" to be robots by moving cups around a table while our partners were encouraged to give "simple commands" like computers do, such as "grasp" "left" and "right." Needless to say, a group of 13 year old children will not remain engaged for long. This was followed by roughly 30 minutes of silent time on iPads playing Light Bot, the free version from hour of code. Very little explanation of what coding is or how computers work was given. We then explored cubelets, basically a high tech toy wherein each block has a specific function and when combined you can get unexpected results. Unfortunately, none of the kits appeared complete and again no link to coding was made. Finally, we used lego branded remote control cars that were programmed via iPad by dragging commands into place. At the end of it all, the kids were asking if we had signed up for the trip for preschool children by accident.

If you have the chance to attend an open house, do so! This Lab operated by University of Chicago is an awesome center of excellence in forward looking scientific research in areas like but not limited to Environmental Sciences, Energy Efficiency, Physics, Chemistry and muc more. The area surrounding the camps, WATERFALL GLEN is a wonderful nature reserve, so even if you don't visit Argonne, visit the surrounding nature reserve for a view of Midwest flora and fauna!

The Argonne National LABS are the best resource we have for patents and inventions. Recently they helped the USA create a new advanced type of Lithium battery. They see that a battery can help change the world. It can store Renewable Energy and also power vehicles much more efficiently than any other source of energy.

This National Research Laboratory is Very Old Research Laboratory in the Nation working in Wide Field of Research ranging from Atomic Sciences to Material Sciences, Engineering, Medical and Life Sciences, Chemical and Industrial Sciences, Development of New Energy Sources and Energy Efficient Systems etc. and therefore, this National Research Organization is involved in Multidisciplinary Research Work. My Father Sardar Baldev Singh Gill got opportunity to attend IAEA Training Course Program held at Argonne National Laboratory and now a days we have great memories of the Past in form of Photographs. Beauty of Research Organization is clearly visible even in the Photos of the Past Time. Fermi National Laboratory is one of the Reputed National Research Organization close to Argonne where Nuclear Engineers/Scientists gathered at Argonne National Laboratory from different parts of the world received opportunity to visit Fermilab from Argonne National Laboratory.
