Awesome NGO working to protect sea turtle populations in Greece. I spent seven months as a volunteer in 2018, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Great people. A very worthwhile project. We came unannounced during the week, and yet they made time for us, we even got a tour in German. It is incredible what these people do. You stand up for injured turtles and you can feel the love with which these people work. When you see what is being pulled out of the turtles, whole fish hooks, you know that the work is very, very necessary. There should be a lot more projects like this. As far as I know, it is the only shelter for injured turtles in Greece. Definitely a project that you can support with a clear conscience, either as a helper or financially. Definitely go and check it out! (Ideally on Saturday during the visiting hours, or call in advance or write an e-mail, so that you don't all stand at the door as unannounced as we do.) By the way, you can swim wonderfully next to it on the beach. We combined a visit to the Sea Turtle Rescue Center with a swim in the sea, and ate a great meal within walking distance in the Prokomeres tavern in Glyfada. Are even very cheap and stress-free from Athens by tram. Recommendation for a day trip or half day trip.
Wonderful job done by staff and volunteers. Very interesting
However, where the turtle is in a tub not much bigger than him, for years, wouldn't it be much kinder to euthanase and make Tom for one that could be rehabilitated?
Thanks to the volunteers for what they do, it's great to say that there are people who care about the future of turtles and with a lot of fun it's really worth seeing, it makes us think! This is free but you can contribute with a donation or just have fun in the souvenir shop :)
Well done to the kids they have done a very good job.
A very educational and fun visit !!! Worth every penny spend to help the sea turtels.
Unique experience and bravado for volunteers for the great tour and for their work together! It is a must visit to the area and especially to children to get to know and to know about the sea turtle! Congratulations to the whole group!
These people do an amazing job rescuing en treating injured sea-turtles. The caretakers give a small tour through the facility and tell background story of every turtle.
Thanks a lot for the tour. It was really great to see how many people actually care for these beautiful creatures.
It was a nice visit, very emotional to see the turtles and to hear about the great work of the rescue center. Worth a visit!
Nice place to visit in Athens besides of all the ruins and monuments. Volunteers are doing great work here. Remember to make a donation:)
Good luck to the volunteers for their work. The tour was very good. That they take care of so many turtles and that everyone can adopt them to enhance their work even from souvenirs.
Call before you go and they do their best to give you a tour and introduce some of the turtles even if it's not visiting times. We were very impressed with the hard work and volunteering for such a good cause. We will definitely visit again when we are back in Athens.
Well done for them .
Everybody should go there to see it up close.
really nice place offering tours of the facilities and you can see turtles of all sizes. they explain what the charity does and how they help the turtles when they come to the rescue centre and nesting beaches
Very good effort and the state has not given proper importance to this project.
It is a small place for a visitor but worth to visit it.
When we visit it, we had the opportunity to meet a new born turtle and a huge one.
It's free, but if you like you can buy a souvenir to support this action.
The work they do here is so important for the turtles! It's a wonderful experience and the tour is nice as they give you a lot of information about the turtles and how they help them get better so they can return to the wild. Wonderful experience and a good NGO to support! Absolutely loved it!
Doen goed werk om gewonde schildpadden op te vangen. De vrijwilligers komen uit heel Europa.
Dedicated volunteers taking care of many rescued sea turtles, with very few resources
Excellent volunteers and educational experience on many elements of sea-life and threatened species. A must visit. The place is also directly on tram stop for convenience
Free to look around, but you should make a donation/buy something! Friendly volunteers, tons of turtles to look at
A very small place, doing a wonderful job. I was there maybe 30 minutes and shown around by a volunteer. If you are close by, it's worth a visit.
The volunteers really go out of their way to help the poor turtles. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. We often visit the turtles and learn something each time. Definitely worth a visit and of course much more wildlife-friendly than the terrible zoo as the turtles are released when they are healthy.
Interesting endeavour by people that really care. Excellent for children
Cause they care so much and the put so much effort to save as many turtles as they can!
It is worth to understand how human beings unconsciously ruin wildlife and how to save their lives.
Five stars for the effort of the volunteers and for the tour they provide to the visitors. You can also see turtles up close. Access is easy by bus or car.
The visit at the rescue center was very interesting and worth supporting. It was nice to get a tour through the place and receive information that was beyond my knowledge of human violence against these wonderful creatures! Come by and donate some money and get educated!
A little tour and you don't see the turtles very well but I liked the information, the wagons that were used for the center, the purpose of the center (save these beautiful creatures that are endangering us humans and the plastic trash we throw away) and I saw one or two turtles. I highly recommend it. I liked it.
A working sea turtle rescue center. Informative guided tour, very friendly. A little sad to see injured Turtles but nice to know they have a place that cares for them. It was all free. The place survives on donations so we bought some things from gift shop, which all seemed if decent quality.
Excellent centre doing vital work. A volunteer will show you around for free and answer any questions you have. It takes 15-20 minutes to do the tour and you are encouraged to but something from the shop on the way out to help with the upkeep of the centre. You can also sponsor a turtle if you want to which will help further with the running hosts of the centre. Children will really enjoy visiting.
Very interesting tour made by an volunteer and a very good and important project.
Congratulations to everyone I went to visit today to see a turtle that received it in the summer
The tour is awesome. Congratulations to all the volunteers.
Great place to learn about the turtles and their struggles with the humanity. The staff is always kind enough to give you a tour and introduce you some of their turtles.
I highly recommend everyone to visit this place and donate to help them do their amazing work. They have some pretty awesome t-shirts too!
I volunteered with Archelon this summer at the Zakynthos project which was one of the best and most memorable things I ve ever done. I learned so much about turtles and their conservation and met so many amazing, hard working volunteers. After enjoying my time at the beach project so much I decided to volunteer at the Rescue centre in Athens which was equally as amazing! Very different projects to work on, but both do very important work either conserving the area and raising public awareness about these amazing animals, or working closely with the turtles rehabilitating and treating their injuries. Archelon is a great NGO doing important work and I ve loved volunteering with them.
Such informative staff, really enjoyed the mini tour and the talk that was given. Made me sad to hear the stories of how some people mis-treat these wonderful creatures but I am happy that they have such a fantastic facility to help rehabilitate them. Fantastic work guys and keep it up!!
Great place to visit! The people are the very kind and they are doing their best to save the injured turtles!
Amazing place to visit, they have turtles brought in almost every month saved from some place or island in Greece. The volunteers are from all over the world (and weirdly, after 2-3 visits, have never seen Greeks) which is amazing and we should help them as much as possible everytime.
The biggest turtle sanctuary I ve seen. Very knowledgeable volunteers doing great work. Worth a visit to find out more about plight of turtles in the Mediterranean. Around 40 turtles with regular releases.
Fantastic place for kids and adults. A lot of lessons to be learned, in leaving with our ecosystem in harmony. Have visited many times and will again in the future. Turtles are rescued and then returned to the sea so you can see different ones almost every time.
Very kind volunteer staff do a nice tour. Super cool mission that they do saving turtles :)
They're not publicly funded at all so make sure to support them!
Worth seeing and especially worthy of support.
If you are in the vicinity, be sure to look and donate a few Euros.
Actions and support.
If you are close, look at anyway and donate a few euros. Heals the world
It was perfect. We learned about caret caret. We had a school trip.
Late review. Back in United States. Five stars because it's a wonderful organization saving sea turtles. I wish I could have petted one or fed one but it's understandable. They're trying to heal and get better. They've been through a lot.
I had a fantastic experience to see the release of a see turtle at the beach today!!! You all did a great job, and a big thank you to all the volunteers involved in this project. I will definitely go for a volunteering day with my kids at the rescue center!
The volunteers are doing a great job and also learning so much
This loggerhead turtle rescue center is very nice and has very nice turtles that are badly injured but because it is a life that is in danger of extinction
Closed with no sign of activities. Was the reason for a trip to Glyfada.
