Arcata Police Department Review

Yesterday my boyfriend and I were taking a nap in our car, around 9am we got woken up by an officer, we were hanging out at the Somoa beach which is my favorite place to go and cool off, he asked us what brought us up there and we told him we have friends here and we mostly came to get away from the heat in the East Bay, now I have health conditions, I have migraines From trauma throughout the years I was abused, he lied to us saying it was 100 degrees out there which was wrong, plus he accused us of leaving trash near our car, our trash was bagged up, the trash he was talking about was already there ever since we started going to that beach, it wasn't hot, it was cold, that's why we came to Eureka to cool off, somebody like that shouldn't lie about the weather being hot out there, yes we're from the Bay Area, but we came to Eureka to see our friends, go to the beach and we're planning on living out there, but we don't appreciate being lied to by the officer, cause when I looked at my weather app on my phone, it clearly said that it was 57 degrees, he told us it was 100, and most of all, we most certainly don't appreciate him telling us about the trash that wasn't ours, our trash was clearly bagged, I remember because every time we go there, I throw our trash away immediately, I think he needs to be fired or something, you don't lie to us about stuff like that, it was uncalled for, disrespectful and we will not tolerate that, so hopefully someone will do something about this, maybe they need to get people out there to clean up the mess over there, cause that stuff has been there since we started going to the beach.

Today I was told by a police officer that if I left my things on the plaza he would take it and go threw it even thou I leave it with one of my friends to watch while I go and do things around the area I know the stores don't want alot of stuff I there stores or in front of them this will only lead to things and other customers getting bumped onto. I don't litter and I keep my stuff together. Don't the police have better things to do than to mess with other people. We got people steeling and hearting others people. If you do own or work at a store you can see what will happen if people bring there stuff to the stores that will hang out there.

I love the government. I'm in my invisible hybrid (NO FEAR) going to get MY FAMILY BACK! See you soon!

The administrative staff here is incredible. They are hard-working, polite, and excellent at their jobs. Being a public servant is not easy but they do their job efficiently and with integrity. I have law enforcement officers in my family and I know the whole department is a team who make sacrifices everyday to protect and serve. My experience with APD was ultimately extremely positive.

I watched a video of this police department take a girl into custody. The friend to the girl was asking for info to get her out of jail and the female officer asked the girl that was not in custody her name. She told the officer and the officer sat there and argued with her, opened the girls car door, snatched the girl out of the car and started hitting her and wouldn't let go of the girls hair even after being restrained by 6 different officers. The blonde female cop still would not release the girls hair. People have rights. Cops don't. They do as they want. They say smoking weed is illegal but they do it. They say prostitution is illegal... But they do it. They say fighting and battery is illegal... But once again they do it. If its illegal its illegal what makes them different than us because behind that badge and gun they're just another human being like us.

Pieces of human garbage who like to beat on little girls and arrest people for no reason. These are not honorable people but cowards with badges, your department should be shut down and your officers locked up for their behavior.

My sister and I Joanne would like to thank officer Rhodes for his kindness, integrity, compassion and professionalism during our time of need. He helped us and made a very difficult situation much easier, all turned out well fortunately. Thank you again officer Rhodes. Andrew Hamilton .

I recently went on a ride-along with the Arcata Police Department on a weekend back in March. I had a fun and exciting experience. The officers who initiated the ride-along with me were very nice. I'm attempting to do a ride-along with them again. If anybody wanted to be in a police ride-along, this is the right place for you.

This is a very well run, efficient community police department Arcata is a unique and diverse city with people bringing big city problems to our small city. APD keeps us safe and we the public are treated with utmost respect. They utilize community oriented policing to focus on relevant crime and keep Arcata being Arcata. Thank you for your service.

I dealt with the Arcata Police a lot when I worked at a local gas station that had a lot of issues. Most of the officers are very friendly, respond fast when called, and will introduce themselves to you by first name. Having said that, there are a few Officers that seem to have a "God complex", they know who they are. (Mostly day shift) Day shift also likes to respond to calls and clear them as GOA/UTL (gone on arrival unable to locate) when they pretend to not see the suspect smoking meth. Also there is one officer who apparently talks about wanting to shoot someone....(heard this second hand, never met the officer, and he hasn't shot anybody as of yet...) Great Police Department otherwise, very community oriented. I frequently volunteer my time doing my own "patrols" looking for DUI drivers, etc (caught one a few months ago that was arrested!) - seems like the night shift appreciates it, day shift I think feels like I'm stepping on their toes or something. Regardless, I would have to say this is the friendliest PD I've met, and having been an explorer for my teenage years as well as belonging to a family of LEO's, I've met many Officers from many Departments across the country. Proud to say they are the friendliest (at least night shift) bunch of Officers I've met. Keep up the good work! :)
