My wife & I have known Mr. Antin & Mr. Epstein for...
My wife & I have known Mr. Antin & Mr. Epstein for a while. They provided us with Legal services for miscellaneous small legal matters through the years. They had shown good common sense, and their legal advice was pragmatic & usable in practical life.
One day, I fell while jogging and hurt my head (uneven NYC pavement); I was left with a slightly damaged brain, though I did not know/notice it right away. ( I realized when I was unable to simply type the alarm code under some stress once).
We had gone to the ER on the day of the fall, and there was nothing grossly broken (Bones, hemorrhage or other). At first, as a typical denying type, apart of the visible bruises and marks, I thought it was "no big deal" (contrary to my wife who is more on the "worry" side). We had minimal documentation of what happened (no witness, but pictures of the pavement & location shortly after the time of the accident, receipts for ER visit & tests ...). I was simply upset to have fallen in a known location because of a damaged pavement.
After the wake-up call (the alarm issue), my wife insisted on contacting Mr. Antin about the fall, as she remembered that he dealt with such cases. After an initial appt, he took the case on contingency. After a long process, it ended in a negotiated settlement. (though I missed 2 appointments with the other side's expert..)
On the negotiation day, he presented the possible facts/outcome/risks, and asked us to decide whether to go to trial (aiming at a larger compensation with more risks), or accept the settlement. We opted for the settlement, given my age, the risk, and the possible long time frame involved.
Mr. Antin and his partner and staff are hard-working (Available beyond the 9-5 PM). They also do their homework (the day of our settlement , for an example, he stopped on his way to consult with an expert on another case). They also helped guide us through the process. As an example, they advised to see the medical expert a 2nd time, probably to have a medical rebuttal in hand for the other side's expert answer. (the other side has experts too, who argue too, and find reasons (senility, disease ...) which need to be rationally countered). In other words, they go by the facts, and try to have them officially documented and supported by experts.
I also benefited from the expert's report to better understand and manage my brain problems. I know that I will not win a speed reading contest any time soon... but my thinking is still clear and logical.
So, if you have been harmed or hurt, even if you think there is not much ground to support your grievance, consulting with Mr. Antin & Epstein may help you understand what happened to you, provide some hope, and also get some compensation for your harm. All of that may also help you move on and make the best of your situation.
Jim Anderson.
