Anna Centenary Library - India: South Asia's Largest Library
Anna Centenary Library is a state-of-the-art library located in Kotturpuram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is the largest library in South Asia and one of the most modern libraries in the world. The library was inaugurated on September 15th, 2010 by then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi.
The Anna Centenary Library has been named after former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C.N. Annadurai to commemorate his centenary year. The library spans over an area of 9 acres and has a built-up area of over 3 lakh square feet.
The Anna Centenary Library houses more than 1.2 million books across various genres such as fiction, non-fiction, reference books, periodicals and journals. The library also has a separate section for children's books with more than 50 thousand titles.
Apart from books, the Anna Centenary Library also provides access to e-books and e-journals through its digital section which has more than 10 thousand e-books and over 100 databases covering various subjects such as science & technology, social sciences & humanities etc.
