A huge thank you for the help of the swiss embassy and specially to Ms Nicole, who helped my swiss husband in a difficult situation.
Her help was really was more than expected. All the team was extremly cute and helpful. Lovely experience. Thank you again.
The ancient Villa Monticello, also known as Villa Elvezia as it is now the seat of the Swiss embassy, has an entrance consisting of a large gate with travertine pillars. Inside the villa, worth visiting are the ambassador's studio and the main hall, where the gem of the embassy's collection is kept, a fresco by Tiepolo. We are on Monticello, the "montarozzo" dei Parioli between Viale Parioli and Piazza Euclide, formerly called "clivus cucumeris" and in the ancient maps on the top of the hill we see the Osteria del Monticello and, on the site where the current villa stands, a old rustic farmhouse that belonged to the abbey of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura.
The farmhouse was purchased by Baron Alberto Fassini and modified in 1924 based on a design by Carlo Busiri Vici. Around 1928, the property passed to the Pisa family. A few years later the owner commits suicide and the heirs parcel. The villa was purchased by the Swiss State which in those years was looking for a prestigious location for its embassy in Rome.
