This Rescue goes well above and beyond for the collies and shelties and even collie and shelties mixes. They take in a lot of dogs normally more than a hundred a year and they work tirelessly to get them proper vetting and proper care. I have had nothing but good experiences with them and have known and adopted from them several times over the years. If there is a bad review on here stating an issue with an adoption then there is something wrong with the potential adopter not the Rescue
Over one year ago, I submitted an on-line application to adopt either a Rough/Smooth Collie and/or a Shetland Sheepdog from Almost Home Dog Rescue of Ohio. Immediately after submitting my on-line application, I contacted the Adoptions Coordinator by both email and phone, to leave a detailed, thoughtful message regarding my submitted application. I also contacted my long time local veterinarian to let staff know that volunteers would be contacting them regarding my desire to adopt from their organization. I am a retired schoolteacher, and have extensive experience owning two previous Shelties. On my application, I stated this experience, as well as my openness to meeting/adopting either male/female dogs, non- age specific, and would also consider a dog with medical needs. I owned my own home with a secure, fenced yard. After leaving two voice messages, as well as three emails inquiring why I had not heard any response from their Adoption Coordinator, I finally gave up attempting to adopt from this rescue site. They post numerous requests for donations, foster providers and adopters, but I believe that these individuals do not work on behalf of supporting these animals looking for a caring, stable, and loving home. Many of these dogs are posted as available for months, when applications have been submitted and volunteers have made little/to no effort to provide follow through with interested adopters. Disorganization and poor communication/follow through forced me to purchase a tri-color Rough Collie puppy from a breeder, a decision I thought I would never make. However, I now have a wonderful companion and have never regretted my decision. Adopt elsewhere; there are plenty of wonderful dogs residing in rescue organizations that provide much better customer service to potential interested adopters.
