Allegan General Hosptial Review

Went in for a pain injection. THESE PEOPLE ARE THE BEST!!!!! they are so friendly and caring.... The injsection lasted only for three days but not their fault!!!!!

I have 3 children 2 boys one 7 and the other just turned a year old and 1 daughter that is 5 they all see the same doc Dr. Franzen she's pretty new here but she is awesome she is great with my children and great at explaining things to me about my children's care and being a parent I can get a little over worried about things sometimes and she has never given me the impression that she has ever thought any of my concerns were stupid or I've never gotten the feeling like she thought I was over reacting about issues with my kids I would recommend this doc to anyone with children even the nurse u see is great and they see the same nurse at every visit which I like. So if u need a doc for ur kids try Dr.Franzen she's great.

Bring a book or something to do, cuz you'll be there for HOURS in the waiting room, unless you have an appointment! SUPER SLOW!! Half the time, after waiting forever, they can't figure out what's wrong with you anyways! A FEW doctors and nurses there ARE pretty dang good, but quite a few of them basically just scratch their heads and guess...

Revising my review because I had a 4:45 appointment for the walk in clinic today. I got there early at 4:30 and sat in the room until about 5:45. No one said anything other than a Lisa who had me sign something that it was OK to bill my insurance. I was miserable with a headache, sore throat, dizziness and no one checked my vitals other than the temp scan upon arrival. I had to leave because I was beyond thirsty and needed my water in my car. All room doors were open on my side but the receptionist said that the rooms were all full on the other side. All I heard during my over hour long wait was a lot of laughing and good times being had between the staff. The walls are paper thin, I heard no doors opening or shutting for patients. It's too bad. I was hoping to find a doctor's office closer than grand rapids or kalamazoo. If my insurance is billed it would be a fraudulent claim because I was never seen by any professional and I will be fighting it.

Personally, Allegan General Hospital has to be the best hospital I've ever been to. Until recently, I've gone there for about 3 years for multiple different procedures, including a laparoscopic cholecystectomy and a manometry test that ultimately proved a series illness with my esophagus. The nurses and anesthesiologists in the OR and short-stay surgery are some of the most sweet and kind-hearted, but at the same time, determined to do their job and help people in need. It makes me sad to have to leave this hospital and the friends that I've made here. This hospital and my doctor has saved my life more than once, and I am forever grateful. I have nothing but kind words about this hospital. This hospital is highly recommended!!

After waiting 2 and a half hours to be seen. I told the PA that I needed an MRI because I was 100% sure I broke something in my knee. She refused even though i was in constant pain it was extremely swollen and I couldn t walk, so she told me I pulled a muscle. Thanks for nothing. I went to Metro Health where they actually did something and took a photo image of my knee and i had a torn miniscus which required Surgery. I live in Allegan and I will drive 45 minutes away before I drive 4 miles to the Allegan hospital.

ER blows staff is rude and they take forever your better off on the Internet

I was treated in a kind and professional way in the ER. The staff was thorough, I could not have asked for better care. I also get primary care at Allegan General ,I am also a patient in Hematology , and have recieved care from Pathology Dr's too. I have always been treated with respect and have received very good to excellent care

If you care about your health do not come here. If you care about your loved ones make sure they do not come here as well.

It is never a pleasant experience to have to visit an Emergency Room, however my recent visit to the Allegan General Hospital E.R. was a prompt, professional one and I am very thankful for their care. When I was informed of the procedures which would be required to assess my circumstances, I was immediately estimating how long I would be waiting for all of it. I am pleased to say that my expectations were greatly exceeded and the whole visit was much shorter than I ever would have guessed. All of the staff that I encountered were kind, compassionate, and very professional. I certainly hope that I never have need of their services again, but I am glad to know that they are there.

Everytime I come here I am forced to wait upwards of 2+ hours! Staff is Rude, Dr.s are almost all here for the money and show no actual concern for us "patients"! The select few that do care are impossible to get to see. Do a better job at your job for god sakes! Ots the only health care system we have here!!!!!

Twice the Urgent Care at AGH has completely misdiagnosed my daughter. Once several years ago when she had a nasty case of tonsillitis. And more recently when she had a staff infection and they diagnosed her with a spider bite. Thank God I got a 2nd opinion. I will never take her back there. It just
isn't worth it.

Nurses are horribly rude and you sit and wait in a room forever when the ER is almost empty. The nurses do nothing but mouth off. Only good point is Dr.Z !

I was taken here after a severe car crash and I was in extreme pain, I could not move because of the pain I was having in my back and I could hardly breathe. It took the nurse 20 minutes just to check on me and then she said I had to get up and go give a urine sample, before I could have any pain meds what??? I could not move and refused to try, they finally did xrays...my back was broke part of my disc was pulverized, they finally gave me some medication. Good thing I refused to get up or I could have become paralyzed from the chest down. I should have just told the ambulance to take me to a real hospital in Grand Rapids because that is where I ended up having to go anyway after spending 6 hours in Allegan.

I was in the ER last night, I had an amazing nurse and a wonderful Dr. I felt well informed about what was going on with me. So glad I choose Allegan General Emergency!

Great doctors and nurses. I like the services that they bring to the patients. 2 thumbs up for me

The emergency room is rediculous. Every time I come in here, it takes at least an hour before you get called back and another hour just for the doctor to come in. My daughter just needed a breathing treatment, which is a very simple, non time consuming thing, right? We have been in the er for almost 3 hours and the Dr. Hasn't even come in yet. He is sitting on his butt and has been for over 20 minutes without seeing a single patient.

Very disappointed in orthopedics dept. Can't seem to get anybody to respond to my several phone calls! I guess their patients are low priority?

I really like the staff they are friendly & outgoing, they go above & beyond for their patents.

It seems that men and women receive different care. I was at this ER about 3 months ago with what I believed was pnemonia. My
symptoms were a low grade fever, severe chest pressure, and coughing up fluid. I was told it's viral and there was nothing that could be done. Well, I brought my boyfriend to the ER last night with those exact same symptoms. They took him seriously, did chest x-rays, confirmed he had pnemonia and put him on antibiotics. He received great care (mainly from the male nurse). Me on the other hand, I was blown off again. I asked the doctor (who barely seemed to have time for us) if I should be concerned because pnemonia is so contagious, I work with kids, and I have been having a chesty cough and pressure. Both of these symptoms mimic how my boyfriend's pnemonia started. The doctor told me, "what he describes is pnemonia. Yours sounds viral". I asked if I could receive antibiotics to prevent being in my boyfriends situation. He said yes. At discharge, I asked the nurse if he needed my information for the prescription for me. He said there wasn't a prescription for me and that I had to go to my doctor and tell him "you have a cough and your boyfriend has pnemonia". Why would the doctor tell me he was going to and not keep his word? Wasn't I already at the doctors, isn't it their job to care for everyone? Anyway, if you want to feel cared for when you're not feeling well and your a woman, you may not want to come here. Apparently, only men can be taken seriously.

Had a great experience. All parents should know how to use in quicker to book appointments. virtually no wait at walk in clinic and got to see Dr. Farhat within five minutes of registration. Perfect for little kids if you don t want to sit in the waiting room for hours.

I would give a lower score if I could. Allegan Hospital is easily the worst in the nation. The staff is under trained, and almost useless. They sent me out the door still in excruciating pain and with no antibiotics or medicine. They didn't even recommend taking anything until I asked as they were kicking me out the door. I went to Metro hospital for a second opinion and they gave me an ultrasound right away vs Allegan Hospital making wait 4 more days in pain. I hope this hospital gets shut down. I wouldn't recommend this Hospital to my worst enemy. And I hope they don't plan on charging me since they did absolutely nothing but waste my time and gas.

I will not be back. The doctor basically lies to us. Didn t listen my husband and then when my husband gave his wishes. They still called the ambulance and have him transferred and he kept asking them not to and to make worse they ordered test and the phlebotomists when asked about the test said it was about Charlie horses. Which was a total lie. They were testing for sepis. I m not one that likes to be left in the dark and then to be lies to. This is my husbands life. Allegan when not ever touch me or my family again. Like borgess if he had stayed at either hospital I would be planning a funeral right now.

Today i went in because im almost 100% sure i have a blood clot in my leg. I was sittin in the bed. All of a sudden my body started getting hives all over. I noticed blood stain on the wall that wasn't cleaned. & i sat for 2 hours and they still didnt do anything. Finally they came in and told me another 2 hours before they could get my ultrasound goin. I picked up my kids and walked out. I didnt get any of my discharge papers or anything. I was so displeased by my expeierence here. Dora, the nurse, she is absolutely magnificent tho!

My mom was taken here by ambulance last week. Dr. Z and the staff were amazing. I feel Allegan is blessed to have such a good ER doctor. They not only found out what was wrong, but facilitated all the care she would need. The nurses were compassionate and even buckled her into the car when we were done! Yes, we were there 4 hours. It's an emergency room and they ran several tests. I was very impressed.

They ask for your insurance card. I gave it to them. They copied it into their system. Then they billed my old insurance company. Insurance would have paid it if they would have received it. The service was fully covered under insurance. They never sent me a bill but sent it to collection. This is how I found out that there was a problem in their process. I was never aware of a unpaid bill. I've talked to two other people who had the same problems. Be aware and avoid this hospital at all costs.

Wow! Exceptical care received here. I'm a nurse at Bronson and choose to have my lap chole done here today by Dr. Matthew Ralph. He has wonderful bedside manner, very knowledgeable, and kind. The entire OR staff ( nurses, CRNAs, and Tech) blew me away with their professionalism and kindness. I know that if I ever needed general surgery again I will return to Allegan General Hospital and have Dr. Ralph operate. They truly go above and beyond here to make you feel comfortable and pain controlled prior to leaving. They treat you like family. Definitely consider this hospital for a more personalized experience for your surgery!! Thank you AGH for your great service!!

Wouldn't waste my time or money to be seen in this er. They have diagnosed more then one of my family members incorrectly. When they say they are a band aid station they mean it. They literally have to transfer you to a different hospital for pretty much anything.

We had a great experience here today. The ER nurse Sierra was really helpful, and the staff was friendly! The doctors were all awesome!

Took my 2 year old son in with high fever, was quickly looked over and brushed off as flu. Dr never looked at his throat..continued to have high fevers took him back 3 days later and luckily we had a great nurse who prompted this dr to look at his tonsils that had become so infected and had absecesswe had to be sent to bronson to be treated..i feel like the first dr failed my son! Your drs need to be doing thorough exams on patients especially ones that cant speak to explain whats wrong!

I have been trying to pay a bill for a month. Nobody will help me. The billing department apparently has one woman working who will not return my calls. I have dealt with two different credit bureaus. The collection agency the hospital says has my bill, has no record of ever having the bill. Never in my life has it been so hard to pay a bill. This is beyond frustrating.

2/21/16 I went to Allegan General's walk-in-clinic. They close at noon. I got there 12 minutes before close. There was an elderly couple in front of me checking in. They had been there already for about 10 minutes ahead of me. The lady checking them in seemed to be taking her time and/or having problems getting them processed into the system. I heard the elderly lady say "I was just here 2 weeks ago". Lo and behold the clock strikes noon and the lady checking them in says. "Sorry, I'm going to have to turn you away". Telling the rest of us in line the same thing. The elderly lady is just about in tears, she said "I can't afford to go to the Emergency room". The woman checking them in just looked at her like she didn't say anything and repeated "I have to turn you away, sorry". I am livid. I get it the rest of us in line, we got there real close to the shut off time but this elderly lady should not have been turned away. They were there at least 20 minutes before closing time. I left and went to Spectrum Health's walk-in and received wonderful professional treatment.

Wile I was caring for my dying Father for the last 2 months my Mother also passed away, I missed an appointment at Allegan Hospital and now there saying I can't be seen there any longer because I missed 2 appointments within 2 months and 1 of them was not even made by me, it was a referral from Borgess Hospital to Bangor Medical, not even a referral to Allegan, they have no sympathy or morality, I offered my Mothers and Fathers death certificates that died on father died on 5-16-2016 And my Mother died on 5-14-2016, if your going through any depression please do not refer your loved one to this Hospital, Sincerely Ray Dunn I will be on face book posting to my family & friends about this in hospitability & carelessness !!!!

I have been here once for an injury my had at the lake. And I was very pleased with how they took care of him

Terrible experience 2 hours in the waiting room for a covid-19 test

Been sitting in ortho waiting with my son for almost 2hrs! It's a follow up appointment for his broken arm....X-ray actually got him in early and now ortho has us sitting for hrs. When you ask what's taking so long you get a rude receptionist telling you they had a lot of emergencies......ok......so why would you not have mentioned that in the beginning so we could have rescheduled? Do you know how hard it is to get a little boy to sit patiently for 2 hrs?
Next time we'll be heading to Kalamazoo!!

went to urgent care for pain in abdomen and nonstop diarrhea, was transferred to e.r. and underwent multiple tests while recieving i.v. drip. was later released with "diagnosis" of diarrhea with upper abdomen pain. heck, i could've told them that... come to think of it, that's exactly what i said, and i have to pay them for that? ridiculous!

Linda, the ER nurse is very rude. Unfortunately when you live in a small town, the options are slim. I will be getting a second opinion.

Never been, was looking for urgent care near me, read some of the reviews. What turn me off was if you gave a glowing review you got a personal reply, if you didn t you got the same reply, please call our patient relations number.

I wouldn't trust AGH with much. I came in with a clear staff infection, and a half toothless doctor told me I had gotten a 2nd degree burn. After I repeatedly told her I would have remembered burning myself, I have had a staff infection before, that my brother is colonized with MRSA, and it is very important I get treatment for my staff infection, she finally prescribed me some medication, but she wasn't happy about, still insisting it was a burn.

Sat 2.5 hrs in a room on hard plastic chairs needing a covid-19 test. Not one person came it to tell my wife and I what the hold up was or offer water to sooth our coughing. After gagging from coughing so much we asked about the wait. 20 mins later we had to walk out and find a different testing site. Not to mention the floor was filthy, clearly not cleaned in some time.

i have high blood pressure and they told me to never come back with that issue becasue they can only handle colds

Very SLOW! Got in and have been here a few times and all they do is give you pills and do not tell you any home remidies! Tried having them look at a area that was swelled up and they said no thank you and proceeded to put me on pills! Would like a hospital that helps you out and checks a spot that needs to be helped with.

Went to ER very unprofessional and didn't care. Nurse rude and also Dr.. wasted money with out insurance. Just wanted help in pain.

Your doctors need to keep their personal beliefs out of medical practices. If you can t separate your personal beliefs from the medical field, you don t need to be a doctor.

We live in Allegan, and we've not personally had any issues with the hospital. Our family goes to their walk-in clinic for things like strep, and we've always received decent care. However, like all the one-star reviews indicate, I've heard plenty of not-so-good things about this hospital, to the point that I won't go there for anything significant. Their walk-in clinic, though, has earned four stars from me.

Ridiculous.... Waiting for ever...over heard people say they have been waiting 4 hour...it's an emergency room...crazy

The WORST EVER. He was the "doc" who new it all. Refused to listen to me. I was having a reaction to the meds he gave me. Asked for Benadryl and the doc said oh you'll be fine. Even though it was hard to breath. My chest was tight and I was blotchy. Followed by I'm not giving you any narcotics. So what do you want me to do for you. Well if the doc cared. He would of done blood work. And would of found I had a infection. Instead he discharged me having a reaction and dehydrated. So if you want to live. I do not recommend coming here. Total GARBAGE.

Short stay was absolutely horrible! Great till the end. Barely awake from anesthesia and they boot me out the door to wait in the lobby barely with it and nauseated. Very push in rude. Never again I'll go some where different. It's worth the drive.

Dr. Warner is a nice person and so is the rest of his staff. Unfortunately, this does not transition into "surgery" world. From 2008-2010 I continually had dislocation problems with my knee cap. Being that I lived in Allegan I went to Dr. Warner to get evaluated and figure out what my next steps should be. My first 2 knee surgeries were done and he did lateral releases. Unfortunately my problem persisted and I had another two knee surgeries and again lateral releases. Even after those surgeries I continued to have the same problem. I decided after my 5th dislocation I had to go to a different doctor. I was told by a Holland doctor that the knee surgeries I had before was an old technique and no longer practiced anymore. After seeing the Holland doctor, I no longer had my dislocation problems and am able to do normal activities. He told me unfortunately I'll be getting arthritis at an early age because of the many previous surgeries. I hope this helps you decide that even though the doctor and staff is nice, I would suggest finding a doc that may provide a more permanent solution.

Several staff members were quite rude and spoke to me in this annoyed snappy tone. Like they just expect you to know where to go and what to do despite having never been there before. I was kind and friendly, definitely did nothing to warrant being spoke to that way. For someone like me who gets nervous about going to doctors/hospitals in the first place.. being treated like that makes me really uncomfortable. Thankfully my doctor was nice otherwise I would've been tempted to leave. Even if it's a only a handful of staff it's enough to make for an unpleasant experience. Anything concerning your health and wellbeing can be scary and it's so easy to talk to people kindly and helpfully. I have nothing but respect for medical professionals as I'm sure it can be really tough, especially in these crazy times. But there's no excuse to speak to people that way, sorry.
